Not all black goo?

I think the stuff David infects Halloway with is different than the stuff that is seeping from urns... Why have something encased in "glass-like" ampules if it can just leak out? While dangerous (who would do this) it's almost like the black goo is the activator for whatever is inside the ampules (inside the urns) or it is a mutating agent...or perhaps it is a safety deterrent (a la those not capable of handling the ampules will get sick and die) If the stuff inside the ampules is the "good stuff" then it is likely that it is DNA modifying/bonding material that turns the exposed into something (it's the essence of another life form... Be it engineer or frog from the moon of zenith) It seems obvious David can read and understand all of the writings on the walls and thus it is likely at some level there is text explaining what everything is the urn chamber actually is. Hence, David is "trying harder" to create an engineer? Seems unlikely that he would just experiment on Halloway without any preconceived "thesis"... I am convinced that the contents of the ampules and the seeping goo must be different. (again hence why the opening scene liquid looks different than the river of black goo on the ground)

I think there are three distinct types of goo in this movie: 1. the disintegration goo the sacrifice engineer drinks 2. the magic random mutating goo that leaks from the urns 3. the "good stuff" inside the ampules

I think the stuff the Engineer drinks at the beginning of the movie is the same as what David gives Holloway in his drink. They both seem to have the same effect. It just took longer to take effect with Holloway because David seemingly gave Holloway a much lower dose. The black, oily stuff that's coating the Ampules that David brings back to the ship and that bubbles out of the Urns is what's making me wonder. It mutates whatever touches it, but doesn't disintegrate what touches it like the stuff in the Ampules does. It mutated both the worms and the Geologist. Is it like packing gel or liquid insulation only with a biotoxic side-effect? If it is, then it's nothing but industrial contamination along the lines of asbestos or an oil spill. The people that wrote the story could be putting an environmentalism twist into the storyline. Also, could it be something leeching through the glass Ampules and only part of the liquid inside the Ampules? Leaving an essential part of the fluid inside the Ampule?
