MemberOvomorphJun-15-2012 8:23 PMNice movie, I really enjoy it. Looking forward to a sequal
By the way, did anyone else get English subtittles when watching at their theater?
I just watch it today at my local theater (non 3-D version)
and throughout the whole movie I get English subtittles. I find it strange since this movie is already spoken in English. And is my first time seeing subtitles throughout the whole movie too.
And a question about David:
I still didn't understand why he purposely, intentionally put those alien liquid thing into Holloway drink. Can anyone else explain this? Thank you
And also when Shaw want to get the alien baby out of her body, why didn't David put her to sleep, seem like he wants to keep the alien baby in her stomach. Again, didn't make any sense.
At first I thought he was infected by the aliens so he wants helps multiply the aliens, LOL! But then he is a robot, so he can't be infected, my bad, LOL!
edit to say: i went to the "open caption" version showtime, so there was English subtitles caption in the movie.
There was no translation to those foreign words David speaking, the subtitles just show as 'speaking in foreign language'
I think the 'open caption' is useless, since the English subtitles is the exact same as the English words that the actors speak.
If you understand English fine, then there no point of seeing this with subtitles, lol

MemberOvomorphJun-15-2012 8:29 PMI wish I had gotten English subtitles. I know in some theatres they have an accommodation for the deaf where they can where a pair of special glasses and see the invisible subtitle.
David spiked Holloway's drink because Weyland told him to "Try Harder!". Try harder doing what? To see what the substance would do if ingested. Was it elixir of youth -or- poison? "All crew expendable"....as usual.
David thought he had doped her up enough. Fortunately for her, she awoke early. His plans (well Weyland's plans) to bring a specimen back home....were foiled.
David was infected with something far worse than what the aliens could have infected him with. He was infected with unethical programming by his greedy creator, Weyland.

MemberOvomorphJun-15-2012 8:35 PMUnder orders from Weyland when he is still under hyper sleep. There is a short scene where he mutters: "I understand sir." I think Weyland & David have foreknowledge about the alien goo and its effects. They are hoping fratboy Holloway would infect Shaw by having sex with her. And they would carry the alien fetus home for experimentation. Weyland is much more a believer than Shaw is. He probably has Jockey mini statues with altar and shit at his swanky Frank Lloyd Wright home in Southern California. He is looking for fountain of youth. They don't expect to see the Engineer alive which is why he is adamant to meet his "idols"
There is an undercurrent of Christian belief in this movie which Weyland seemingly ignore or is unfamiliar. What God says to Moses [paraphrase]: "Do not erect idols in my name..?" I think what is happening in LV223 is a perversion of a purer religious belief shown in the beginning. Mankind has lost his way, Weyland wanting Godlike power for selfish reasons. So do the Jockeys/Engineers...

MemberOvomorphJun-15-2012 8:50 PMThank you so much, it definately make sense now.
Ah I just check, the showtime I went to was happened to be "Open Caption" showtime, no wonder why I see English caption throughout the whole movie, lol
Oh and I was wondering, where do those big aliens come from? For sure the "engineers" didn't make them. Were they already on the planet when the "engineer" spaceship landed?
Sorry for the bad grammars, English is not my first language.
Thanks for reading and help me

MemberOvomorphJun-15-2012 9:04 PMWhat big aliens are you talking about? At what point in the movie did you see them?

HorrorFan
MemberOvomorphJun-15-2012 9:13 PMThe huge alien toward the end where Shaw push "the engineer" guy to the alien and let the alien eat him.
The big alien that eat "the engineer", and cause his stomach to pop out the little alien at the end.
Where did that huge alien come from? Seem like it was already there on the "engineer" spaceship.

MemberOvomorphJun-15-2012 9:24 PMThe huge alien / octopus / earlier-version-of-face-hugger were impregnated by Charlie when they were having intimate moments earlier on.
Charlie sperm has somehow been modified from within his testicle, remember, these aliens were bioweapon engineered by the engineer to wipe out an entire civilisation, it is very adaptable! (just like when we see in the first scene where the engineers fell off underwater n his dna strand changed into another), and when the sperm enters shaw’s womb n again did damage to her eggs and thus the huge alien / octopus / earlier-version-of-face-hugger at the end of the scene!

MemberOvomorphJun-15-2012 9:34 PMI see, thank you, it all make sense now.
I remember the baby alien in Shaw stomach, but I thought that baby alien already dead when she pull it out of her stomach. Wow, it grow big so fast!!!
This movie relaly make you thinking, now you explain it and it all make sense now. Thank you very much.
Looking forward to the sequal, by any chance will there be a sequal?
I'm going to go see this movie again, second time to get more understanding.

MemberOvomorphJun-16-2012 5:20 AMdid they show ENGLISH SUBTITLES for the words that David and Driver exchanged before the carnage?
THAT would be newsworthy
2013 sci-fi horror novels 'Custodian' and 'Tandem' available from Amazon, B&N, iTunes etc...

MemberOvomorphJun-17-2012 1:08 AMThe movie speaking English and the English sub titles caption was also in English, exact same English words as what those actors speaking in English.
I don't remember which part is the carnage part, but all the parts that David speaking in foreign language, the subtitles caption just say speaking in foreign language.
There was no translation at all. The subtitles is just in English the exact same thing that the actors speaking in English.
I didn't think I need the caption since the movie already in English itself and I understand English, lol! I totally didn't know the time I buy the ticket was an "Open caption" version of the movie, lol, I just think the caption take up the screen.

MemberOvomorphJan-11-2013 12:12 PMThe theater just had the regular movie display, no subtitles/
I am getting used to using the CC at mome, especially on the first viewing. To me thay add to the understanding the story and charactors. Some references to other places and names happen too quick and are not important til later in the movie. Then use of subtitles at least alerts you to coming charactors/places that may be important.
I don't think I have ever seen a movie with sub titles in a theater.but would like the opportunity.
My wife thinks they distract from the visual as you are reading and not watching.
I just know I understand a bit more of the movie when seeing and hearing the dialog.
On the Home DVD the Descriptive audio track is great and very informative. Like reading the shooting script.
