The Crew of each 'Croissant' Bomber Ship

Custodian
MemberOvomorphJune 17, 20122054 Views17 Repliesin the classic Space Jockey configuration, the ELEPHANT HELMET is built into the Viewing Seat i.e. not an elephant pressure suit.
but
those Engineers running away from 'something' lethal 2,000 years ago also have on ELEPHANT PRESSURE SUITS
can anyone explain this (yet another Lindelof) inconsistency?

Pressure suits are what they wear in the cryo-pods and one can wear in the seat that then gets an elephant suit formed around his pressure suit. The elephant suits out in the room leading to the "bridge" are most likely for space-walking/planetary-exploration.

I think another good question is Why did the engineer of Alien has no legs?
he lost his legs in an accident or battle or was simply fused with the chair...
June 17, 2012
bullshit, I'm not convinced by any of these explanations so far.
Engineer: a nappy-wearing mongoloid-looking blue-white giant.
Cryo-drone: a cryo-suit is FUSED onto the dna so that he can be plumbed in Matrix-style; only the hands and face are visibly Engineer.
Corridor Scene: an elephant-suit has wrapped itself around an Engineer.
Space Jockey: AN ELEPHANT DRIVER, not an Engineer in a cockpit seat.
Ah, unless this 'elephant suit' bridge was supposed to convince You The Viewer to accept that Space Jockey wasn't an Elephant Driver. Look, even his air hose didn't link up.
Smell narrative padding/decoration i.e. no functional Elephant Suit needed by people who are always a) in air-conditioning that adjusts to creature or b) Engineer Sacrificees can breathe PROTO EARTH poison atmosphere anyway.
Come on!!!!!!!!!

At the end of prometheus the engineer gets into the driving seat to take of, but after the ship crashes, the engineer is seen to come after shaw in the escape pod where he finally come to his demise. At the beginning of Alien when the crew search the engineers ship the find an engineer fused to the drivers seat with huge cavity in his chest. In theory, he shouldnt be there. Could anyone explain this to me as i am finding this as a little flaw.

duffers,
that Engineer (allegedly) DIDN'T EVEN NEED the Elephant Space Suit to get across that alien CO2-rich atmosphere..... unless 'he held his breath, while running'
Oh, and LV-223 ISN'T LV-426 (yet) -- it's easy when you spell it out.

Please remember intrepid SciFi detectives that this is a movie that was written by Non-Scientist who did their best to create a believable environment for their characters to exist in. While there are many plot holes, and many inconsistencies... they did their best to provide an entertaining and engaging world of Science Fiction wonder...

The fossil Space Jockeys legs, if he does have them, are just further down into the chair And he still became fossilized for want of a better word. He probably, they probably have to sit in the chair with their knees slightly bent upwards. It would be interesting to see the inertnal configuration of the Machine Chair itself to know how the film makers ntended the BioEngineer to be seated within it.

Let me be the first to warmly congratulate you on a quite excellent deployment of the phrase, "nappy-wearing mongoloid-looking blue-white giant".
Marvellous.
Other than that, your concerns may well have substance.

Its not a inconsistency...
If you look prior to entering the Orey/Control/Pilot Room you will notice there are Engineer Space Jockey pressure suits adorning the walls on the entrance to the room.
As far as the whole skeleton thing, again Ridley said and i am talking before Alien 3 came out that it was a Space Suit....

Above is the unfinished Space Jockey from Alien 1979, not this looks more like a Space Suit than a Skeleton......
You need to grasp the concept that the Space suit is living in a way, its like a Snakes Skin and when a Snake dies it goes like this after a while...

Compared to this when alive...

Also yes the Space Jockey in Prometheus's snout did connect with the rest of the suit if you watch the movie/scene again.
Lastly yes there a mild differences but they are meant to be the same thing, just a modern redesign to bring it up to more detail thats all.
So its like how this is the re imagined/improved Cylon looks compared to original, now they are supposed to be the same thing.

Just as the Viper MK2 look at number 2 and 4 they are both the Viper MK2 just one was the 70's/80's and the other the new series one, yet they are intended to be the same craft just designed different for more realistic detail etc..... and the differences in Pilot Chair and Derelict etc from Prometheus and Alien is likewise.

Very good point about the Engineer getting from crashed Derelict to the Lifeboat to attack Shaw...
We see him on the lifeboat with no helmet.... so we may assume he does not need it, maybe the Atmosphere on LV223 is not as hazardess as the vacuum of space.... but then the Derelict has breathable air for the crew and the Engineer so the only reason for the suit would be if somehow in Space some part of the Derelict opens up maybe like the window above the pilot chair hence why he needs to be attached to the chair and wear the full Space Jockey Suit.
Another reason for wearing the suit is maybe as a Bio Hazard Suit?
Then again we do not see the Engineer enter the lifeboat via the same two entrance doors that Shaw does, we with this scene cut short we do not know if he was wearing the Helmet and discarded it as he entered the Lifeboat, but then again that asks the question why do that if he has plans to after he dealt with Shaw to go back to the Temple or another one and get into another Ship.
I guess its just one of a number or plot holes....

Waiting for the Blu ray to be able to conclude on what is or isnt a plot hole, loose end, or deliberately unexplained point in the film...the film's editing which shaved the running time down to satisfy the exhibitors was very well done but contributes to many negative perceptions of the movie..fortunately, we don't have to wait too long...it could be worse.

BigDave,
don't try to DEFEND Lindelof's blatant attempt to make you think there was an Engineer (lol) inside GANESHA, god of obstacles!
Please, it's demeaning.

The inconsistency is one of convenience, and does not exist to serve the story. In ALIEN, it's obvious that what you are looking at is a skeleton, and it's this visceral quality that gives this scene impact. Something violated this creature from within, bursting outward and killing him in the process. You get the impression that something really awful happened there, and that you are being given a hint of things to come. A premonition; it's masterful.
But if you want to use the ALIEN universe as a vehicle for the alien astronaut thing, then that nullifies the original Space Jockey concept. Now you have to make it a guy in a suit, and it's obvious it doesn't really work: the scale is off; it looks stupid; and it marginalizes the other-worldly quality of the original scene, it's horror.
What a wreck...

As i said already the unfinished prop as i posted looks more like the Prometheus Engineer than the Alien one.
And Ridley had not all of a sudden came out with the idea that the Pilot was a Space Suit, he had that idea for some time prior to Prometheus a long time prior.
As far as the suits that the Hologram Engineers are wearing there are some inconsistencies.
We do see those style suits hanging up on the walls and they do look similar to the 1979 Alien Pilot prior to being finished.
But then why the pressure suit look of the Engineer, and why did he suit up in the chair... well i think we need look and ask how did he get from the Space Ship to Shaw without his Space suit?
Surely this means the Engineers can for even if a limited time breath in the hostile atmosphere of LV 223? Unless he took off his suit prior to entering the Lifeboat and Attack Shaw... remember the movie has a lot of lose end scenes that appear and indeed are cut.
so this brings me to the Black Goo.... why did it start to leak when the crew came into contact with it? Well when they took off their Helmets their breathing affected the atmosphere etc of the room, so we can only wonder if they never took their helmets off would the Urns not had reacted?
Therefore maybe the Space Jockey suits hanging up and worn by the Engineers are actually also some kind of Bio Hazard Suit?
In that they wear these suits when dealing with the Urn Bio Weapons, as if they took them off they too could affect the climate and cause the Urns to activate?
This is not factual just a idea that i had, that would explain the plot hole.
I am very interested in the Engineers, and look forward to Prometheus 2 only i hope Ridley fixes the Scale and goes LOTR with who they made Hobbits appear smaller to make Engineers appear 9ft tall.
As opposed to find out what the Deacon becomes because to me its far to similar to the Xeno and looks a lame version of the Xeno Organism.
