MemberOvomorphJun-17-2012 7:42 PMit's looking VERY likely that at least one sequel will be green lit.
It's on target for a 3-week worldwide haul of $218 million with wealthy markets like Germany and Japan not coming online until early and late August. Before all is said and done, I think it's tracking for $350~400 million. Perhaps they'll even double-up on 2 AND 3 to save on production costs.
Perhaps the Italian Release will even be only the "full (un-butchered) film." Poor things; I hate it for them that they have to wait so long, but FOX does that to them all the time. There's a good reason to reboot your population growth! :•)

MemberOvomorphJun-17-2012 7:50 PMGood news(fingers cross).
I wonder if they will project a sequel making less than the first. After my 3 veiwings of the film I've asked random people what they thought and if they are big Alien fans or not and what they thought of the flick. The majority(except at the 12:01 screening) have not been huge fans of Alien like most of us here. Most did say they enjoyed the film and I've gotten "It was interesting" about 5 times. But I didn't seem to get the feeling that many of them would go to see the sequel. At the theatres anyway. I'm sure they'd catch it on dvd.
It'll be intersting if they do do it how much $$ they'll throw at it. They're going to have to pay Noomi and Fassbender a bit more no doubt as thier stock rises. Unless they had some sequel clause in their contract or something.

MemberOvomorphJun-17-2012 7:52 PMIt amazes me how greed kicks in...so quickly...There is enough for everyone and people will spend the money on a good flick....so less talk and more filming please

The writing will have to be a bit better on any P2 or P3 and the overall reviews will have to improve for more in the general audience to get on board, I think.
The kinds of pacing and editing *issues* that plague Prometheus also need resolving, IMO, for it to get better word of mouth.
But, sequels that hit certain $$$ targets have an installed base that the studios love and they're good at marketing to that audience.

For FOX this is NOTHING if not a financial proposition.
Greed's reign is eternal. It never dies.
