That's not a revelation. He's calling it Earth DNA, for convenience. He's explaining the shot, not the plot.

i think ridley scott has already dismissed the idea its a direct jesus connection "too on the nose" cant view the video in work- is it from an official source?

I think the general consensus is that it takes place during the Cambrian period of Earth's history, about 600 million years ago. If the black goo or whatever he drank is an evolutionary catalyst then that would explain the massive explosion of life during that period.

general concensus? plot? I HAVE DIRECT EVIDENCE FROM THE GUY WHO SUPERVISED THE SHOT who would have been in intense discussion with the director speaking about the ideas for his film. Ridley Scott'll have provided a detailed storyboard, no doubt, and he would have said, "This takes place on Earth..." No no no ... I'm gonna stop myself there because I just had an insane brainflash. MAYBE THE OPENING SCENE IS [b]MANKIND'S[/b] FUTURE!!! Just because this 'looks like' the start of Stanley Kubrick's 2001 doesn't mean it is. Remember, the WETA guy says, "Earth DNA," and this means the Engineer has Earth DNA in his ravaged veins, so are WE in the future going around seeding dead planets AFTER all this Weyland-Yutani corporate-xeno-war has run its course? seriously i think this scene does show them creating life in the past. the way the sfx guy talks about it sure does seem that way and that the engineers did engineer life on earth & humans

fluke, I'm still open to this scene being EARTH PAST or HUMAN FUTURE, as explained above. :) What do the rest of you think about this revelatory WETA guy's statement, "Human DNA," ?
