The Nostromo, Joseph Conrad and why we need to make the Apocalypse Now connectio

In Ridley Scott's Alien the mining spacecraft is named Nostromo. In James Cameron's sequel, Aliens, the Marine transport vessel is named Sulaco. (Also in Alien, the escape vessel is named Narcissus, an allusion to another of Conrad's works, The Nigger of the Narcissus.) Academics analyzing the role of the Ripley character in the Aliens franchise have also remarked on the symbolism of the opening scene of Alien 3, set in the Sulaco's cryo chamber. Ripley is compared with an incorrupt Catholic saint preserved in a glass coffin (akin to Saint Bernadette of Lourdes, both in her lying in state in the cryotube as well as for her 'incorrupt body' which has twice survived being almost infested with the Alien). Accompanied by the Agnus Dei of the Ordinary Mass playing in the background of the opening, it is argued that the Sulaco has been transformed "into a holy site where the iconic bodies of a fetishistic religion lie in state" - setting the scene for a lone facehugger attacking its victim (corrupting it) and also causing the emergency system to evacuate the cryotubes into space, to plunge down to Fiorina "Fury" 161 (representing the Fall from Grace). All that in relation to this article: Your text to link here... explaining the religious overtones of Alien 3 (which make more sense now, after Prometheus, than they did back in 93 ) All this leads me to the conclusion of why it would make sense for us to get a lot of Apocalypse Now vibe in the sequel. I mean, looking at this I think about this: and It's easy to assume why this makes sense. Hearts of darkness took place in south america. You got the mayans, the pyramids and the zigurrats, the sacrificial rituals, the 'chase' and the journey, descending into hell (in opposition to the title "Paradise") and madness (the lovecraftian influences and references to Mountains of Madness). What do ya think?

Really interesting info. Like King Soloman onces said. There is nothing new under the son. Which I think is so true. New ideas are just old ideas that have been recycled and been given a new face.

hey hey hey now! no need to use the N word. When she flies off to the planet she meets Captain Kirk, Obi Wan Kenobi, and we tie all of that in to the ultimate sequel of all time! Seriously though I like the Apocalypse Now idea.
