Mathematically Inaccurate Distance Factors

let us all assume light speed travel is possible for a second. This is sci fi, so busting the movies balls on the ground that they simply cannot get to their destination in two years is not fair to the movie.
but what I must laugh at is this:
3.27x10^14 = 327,000,000,000,000km. <-- this is quite reasonable for a distant solar system. (not too distant)
If this distance was plastered on the screen, why the hell did Vickers say "half a billion miles"?? XD
First of all that wouldn't bring you anywhere CLOSE to the NEAREST solar system to ours and LOL why change units? Typical american blond I guess lolz (no offense to americans). OBTAIN THE METRIC SYSTEM!!!
Half a billion miles is 804 672 000km.
so, Vickie's ignorance difference = 327,000,000,000,000 - 804 672 000
= 326,999,195,328,000km
No wonder she didn't realize to run 12 meters to the left or right rather than barreling down the straight corridor of ultimate doom.
One thing I must say is that 2 years is a much more reasonable outlook to travel 804 672 000km so in that regard referring to modern time she is more right than anyone on that ship.
unfortunately that would place the crew in the core of Jupiter depending on the time of year. Maybe there are engineers there too! that gas could simply be exhaust from some bigass machine in the core.
