As far as I could tell, no one back on earth knows what has transpired either. Leaving them to as Vickers said to her father "fight it out in a board room" (or words to that effect"
Hopefully part of the sequel we will find out exactly what happens as a result of all this. I think Yutani needs a "presence" as much as Weyland has had in Prometheus. Will tell another part of the story and genesis of the later franchise.
Or do we think this will get massively overlooked in any details, and will be covered through viral marketing - possibly through the Weyland website?
We might see an announcement on it that continues the timeline, and we see the merger and handover transpire in that fashion?

- Way back when Ridley Scott inferred he wanted Prometheus (then called Paradise) to venture into the how the companies merged.
I suspect that in the sequel (allegedly titled Paradise, go figure) we will have two stories...
1. Shaw and David arriving at the "source" of the Engineers, and recieving answers, most likely undesirable, nightmarish (for us) answers.
2. Yutani Corporation investigating the fate of Project Prometheus, uncovering information about us, the Engineers and the Xenomorph.
I then suspect there will be a third and final instalment that will...
1. Show the merger of the corporations into Weyland-Yutani.
2. Reveal the mysteries/truths regarding the Engineers goals, the purpose of the Xenomorph, and our destiny/fate in the Engineers hands.
3. Explain why W-Y had to resort to cloak and dagger tactics to acquire the Xenomorph, and ultimately why they really wanted it instead of the more advanced Engineer tech.
4. Some jaw dropping revelation that knocks us all for six, shedding a different light over Prometheus 1, 2 and the Alien films.

Would be interesting if Yutani launched it's own mission, after all we know they were sniffing around Shaw and Holloway
