I am one of those who consider Prometheus a masterpiece....but at the same time I see how some people did not quite appreciate it as much as i did...I have seen plenty of movies that made perfect sense...yet they were so fucking boring i struggled not to fall asleep...it's not a flawless movie and the characters are all human (apart from david) and therefore very flawed....seriously Merc7...have you never seen any real person do something ridiculously stupid before?
It happens all the time....especially under extreme pressure....so no i don't see it as being that far fetched....i have seen people doing dummer things in my life...i have done things and thought...OMG what was i thinking...!!! So in space dumb people can hear you scream...!...:)

DrakeequationJune 21, 2012
The visuals weren't THAT impressive, the Matrix films had better special effects and they came out years ago. If anything, Prometheus is somewhat dated in the visuals department when compared the likes of Avatar or even The Avengers.

SvanyaJune 21, 2012
@SaintsSinphony; Oh yes I did rage at first, but it was far from a bad experience, it just wasn't what I expected. Then again I hated Avatar and tons of people love that movie so, I guess to each his own.

@SaintsSinphony; Well no actually, it's not that big of a deal. I don't really see things in Black and White, I prefer a middle ground it helps me deal with disappointment. I was upset for a couple days then I got over it and actually went back to see it a second time and third time. I have to agree though the movie was set up as the second coming so it is no wonder people are upset.

@Svanya
Question is, can Damon and Jon untangle their mess of a story? Do they even care? Or is it all about the $$$?

SvanyaJune 21, 2012
@Merc7; I have no idea. I hope so, I really do. I think most things these days are about money, but to be fair Lindeholf is a huge Alien fan so I doubt he would screw it up intentionally. Ridley knew what was going on too, so I just hope things get cleared up somehow. If this turns into a Star Wars type prequel disaster thingy I be very dissapointed.
Really what I think happened was they created a viral campaign that was misleading. That is what pi$$ed people off more than anything.
Anyways, I saw it 2 times and relaxed, got over the fact it wasn't what I expected and just had fun. People just need to chill, life is too short. :)

@Merc 7 well rumors on the net are that Fox studio head Tom Rothman recently told Ridley Scott after seeing the film: "You won't be back for a sequel."

SvanyaJune 21, 2012
@Drakeequation; Now see that is not funny, because who will do the next movie, Cameron?? I don't want to see a Cameron movie.

Well, I read the review in its entirety. It had valid points of critique that I was already aware of (sloppy/nonexistent character development, plot holes such as "how did the captain know the storm would be over in one day?") but for the most part the review consisted of:
- Complaining about disliked characters
- Nitpicking for errors and questioning standard scifi tropes and technology (such as holograms, faster-than-light travel, etc.)
- Complaining about the movie raising questions
- Complaining about having to think about said questions
My opinion of the movie remains unchanged, but thank you for your well-meaning concern and desire to help me see the error of my ways. :D
That's all I have to say here. Hopefully this thread will be moved soon.

allinambercladJune 21, 2012
That article seems quite nicely done to me - nice writing style.
This thread is amusing.

DrakeequationJune 21, 2012
@Svanya Cameron will definitely not do a sequel as he has said that all of his other projects are on hold until he finishes the sequel to Avatar. I do not know who it would be but I do not think it would really matter all that much. They could still get tons of awesome special effects with any director, Scott didn't exactly bring his A game to this project in the first place. This was certainly no Gladiator (which I saw five times in theaters). Heck this wasn't even on par with Body of Lies or Matchstick Men...

JuxtaposeJune 21, 2012
@drake...did tim rothman really say that?...where did you read this...i am not saying you are lying....but I am kinda curious?

The truth can be a son of a b, I know. Speaking of Ridley, I'm afraid he's beginning to suffer delusions of grandeur. Making a film about our beginning, that's some heavy ..... But regarding the hype, I think most of it has settled now that a lot of people are disappointed and left without the answers that we were promised in this film, not in Prometheus part 11.
BTW, thank's for making the link clickable, much appreciated.

The earlier teenage fanboy (like David 1 for instance) outrage has settled.
1- I'm not a teenager.
2 - Def not a fan-boy [don't love it neither hate it... it's more like... meh...]
3 - I don't rage.
4 - I'm curious to see where this is going. Fun stuff.

Um, I guess I am trying to stay neutral as silly as that sounds. I have seen the coolest, most active members here turn into the most rage filled people because they were so hurt and disappointed by the movie. I don't wish that on anyone, I am not saying you have to love the movie but maybe people could just chill a bit? :)
Again, my new fave image. xx

That would be a dream scenario, making a sequel to this film will not justify the failure and it would be an embarrassing solution signed Ridley Scott.
artyohJune 21, 2012
I don't get the hate parade, either. I've never hung out on a website, just to vent and complain about how much I disliked any particular thing. To each his own, I guess.
artyohJune 21, 2012
Lindelof gave Scott exactly what he wanted. Why can't some folks get that through their heads?
Scott's unequivocal statement: "I'd prefer they fight about it, rather than spell things out" tells you all you need to know about where he's coming from, and that's clearly a place that many of you do not enjoy.
I'd respectfully suggest that anyone who feels this movie is a confusing mess, abandon all hope that subsequent installments will answer most of the questions you have, to your satisfaction.

LOL that made me laugh so hard!
Yes you're right and I this was just another reaction that I had since I was so disappointed. Twice the expectations - double the disappointment. Just had to vent.

Sorry but I find that funny. It reeks of existing to illicit a strog reaction which you wont get from me.
However if it is genuine then I'm very surprised to hear you say that. In fact out of the thousands of reviews and opinions I've read that's a first. I disagree 100%.

...but if the movie is such a success at the box office then why not hire Ridley again...i don't get it?...I mean it has'nt broken any records but it is certainly doing well enough to justify a sequel....especially internationally....everyone is so focused on the USA box office...it's been no 1 in the UK for 3 weeks already and 2 weeks at the top in South Africa (i know we only a drop in the bucket...but still)...
And it has'nt even been released in China and Japan....so considering that it is a R rated movie....i would say it is performing above expectations !!

Merc7June 21, 2012
@Engineering
Ok so first you're whining about this thread repeatedly, then finally saying that you're out of here. Difficult to decide? After all, you really seem to like this thread, why else would you spend your ''precious'' time to return and comment?

JuxtaposeJune 21, 2012
@Merc 7....what exactly do you get out of nit picking at Prometheus.....I have plenty of friends who I think might not appreciate this movie....but why are you so out on spoiling it for people....what do you wish to gain....anything or everything?

You can tell when people are on the losing side of an argument when they start vaulting Ad Hominem attacks.
@ Juxtapose Merc 7 simply does not like the film and wishes to talk about the disgust he has for the movie and the people who made it. He posted an article that he thought supported his complaints very well in an attempt to enlighten what he perceives as a largely misguided and woefully ill informed fan base.
@Engineering I meant what I said, the Matrix films and The Avengers were way more impressive from a technical standpoint than Prometheus was. Heck, even Watchmen boasted much better visuals throughout and did not have to rely on National Geographic style shots of beautiful landscapes to look gorgeous.

JuxtaposeJune 21, 2012
...seriously if i hated prometheus i would not even bother to come back to this site...i would have left one steaming pile of shit review and that would have marked my exit....but people that keep coming back here just to say how disappointed they were....it simply does not make any sense...?...so merc basically what i am saying is....F%#K OFF!

David 1June 21, 2012
Merc7:
Now that is just nasty...
Not that I care for what you may eventually write [and I like reading diferent opinions and whatnot], but picking on people on a site is just... for a lack of a better expression... pointless.
That is what Is really sad friend.
Have a good night.

@ Drak...beautiful visuals is not all about CGI...it involves set pieces, cinematography, makeup, imaginative design and ultimately CGI....if you want really over the top CGI that will put you to sleep and wonder WTF just flew past the screen and managed to omit 20 explosions at the same time then watch Transformers!....
I agree that the plot was not 100% ...but sorry the visuals .....pure perfection !!....and never over bearing!!

@Merc...ok i don't hate you.... it's ridiculous that we fighting about a movie...lol...so hugs to u 2...;)

DrakeequationJune 21, 2012
@Juxtapose clearly you did not watch Planet Earth and Human Planet in high definition. Blows Prometheus out of the water in terms of visuals AND is actually intellectually rewarding and thought provoking. Prometheus literally has nothing you cannot already see done better in other films or television specials.

JuxtaposeJune 21, 2012
...no Drake....but i have seen one or 2 episodes....but how often do you see that in a sci-fi....i mean do anything compare to those nature shows in terms of camera and cinematography...no...not in any movie ever!....plus they filming real things...their is no cg or concept involved....so not a fair comparison !!

DrakeequationJune 21, 2012
@ Juxtapose what about the documentary ALIEN PLANET...

JuxtaposeJune 21, 2012
ok...i have not seen that one yet...not gonna download it cause it will eat all my cap....but will check it out eventually...any movies you think that stood up to it?....look prometheus is not visually perfect perhaps....but it blows most 3D cg movies out of the water....it balances set design, cg and cinematography almost perfectly and the engineers...OMG....those where excellent!!....but yeah I have appreciation for the shows you mentioned....will check them out....for now i am off to bed....good night!!
