MemberOvomorphJun-21-2012 5:44 PMA classic is defined by memorable scenes that keep drawing you back to be seen again...I like the story whihc is an adventgure, but there aare no must see this scene again goings on...the movie as a whole is a must see and perhaps again and even unto bblue ray with deleted scenes, but not a classic

MemberOvomorphJun-21-2012 5:48 PMWhy are you still here on this site, Merc7? I don't understand.
Anyway, the fact that so many subtexts and layers of this film have been revealed by viewers AND the fact that these boards are still incredibly active with discussion - seal it as a classic.

MemberOvomorphJun-21-2012 5:48 PM''The crew on the ship don’t come across like people who are too interested in details. They don’t seem to be too bothered about the discoveries they make, they are not worried when some of their colleagues go missing and they didn’t seem to care to find out what the mission was about before they signed up for it. A couple of the crew can be overheard trying to guess what the mission is, why did these people go on a mission without asking any questions? Before accepting to go and making all the arrangements to go on a long space flight, finding out why you are going might be a question on the top of your list.
To add insult to injury, the crew also don’t seem to know each other. When they first wake up, the scientist and geologist have a conversation that makes it clear they have just met. Charlize Theron at the briefing says says hello to the people she hired personally, and then introduces herself to the rest. For an important and expensive mission like this, would she not already have met everyone? Did everyone just climb into the pods before entering hyper sleep without introducing themselves?''

MemberOvomorphJun-21-2012 5:50 PM''I’m no scientist but even I know that there can be toxins in the air that you may not be able to smell, Co2 being an example. So when the scientists all take their helmets off because they detect a breathable atmosphere, I was screaming ”what are you doing?????” (in my head.) What about diseases, microbes and other stuff that could be in the atmosphere? But they all act like morons and take their protective helmets off and leave themselves open to any infection that might be waiting.
And even before you go exploring the cave, shouldn’t you map if first? It would make everything much easier.''

The fact that this site invites us to add our negative reviews to the board seems rather odd then.
But maybe you are right and we blue meanies should not be here?

MemberOvomorphJun-21-2012 5:53 PM''The scientist and geologist travel all that way only to run scared of a discovery that should have had them crying tears of awe. They have just discovered an alien corpse but instead of having some degree of scientific curiosity, their first reaction is to run.
We all know the real reason this was in the script was to get these two characters separated, but it was done in the most lazy way and they had the worst motivation for doing so. You are scientists! Are you not wondering anything about what you have found? You are one of the first humans to see it!
And wouldn’t they have been pretested before the long and expensive space flight so that you knew they would actually do their job rather than run. Why is no one on the ship telling them to shut up and stay put. Charlize Theron was very quick to to tell Holloway and Shaw that they are ”employees” because Weyland funded the trip, so does that not apply to the others? And before anyone says that one of them is a geologist and that his specialty is rocks, I got that when he shouted ‘IM A GEOLOGIST..I FUCKING LOVE ROCKS!!” But he’s still a scientist and he should have shown a slight interest in what they found.
Also, how did they get lost when the cave was mapped in 3D and their positions were being tracked? We know the script writers wanted them to separate from the group and get killed but we also know that they cant get lost because there is a detailed map on the ship with which they are in direct communication with. The writers wanted these two to get killed and didn’t care about how many plot holes they made in getting these two to their doom. Lazy!''

MemberOvomorphJun-21-2012 5:57 PM@Merc Prometheus fanboys are not going to change their mind about the film no matter what you say or show them. They are, by definition, "[k]nown for a complete lack of objectivity in relation to their preferred focus. Usually argue with circular logic that they refuse to acknowledge. Arguments or debates with such are usually futile. Every flaw is spun into semi-virtues and everything else, blown to comedic, complimentary proportions. " You cannot convince someone to change their opinion on this, even if the film was just two hours of a tennis ball on a table it would have many interpretations for fans that claim it was multi-layered genius.

MemberOvomorphJun-21-2012 5:59 PMThe article is filled with personal interjections typical of who doesn't use his brain to think things through [but uses it to complain pretty well].

MemberOvomorphJun-21-2012 6:02 PMThis thread makes no sense what so ever. For one, it belongs in the "Disliked" section of the forum and 2 it's not something that most people who liked the film enjoy or even care to read.
Furthermore, I don't like being told to "wake the fuck up" anymore than you probably do.

MemberOvomorphJun-21-2012 6:02 PMI know he’s supposed to be a ”cool” archeologist/scientist but if you traveled all that way and found something that could change the foundations of human evolution, would sulking and getting drunk be the first things you do? He was also the idiot who would not wait to start the exploration of the cave even though the captain told him it would be the best thing to do as there was only six hours of light left. And lets not forget how quickly he took his helmet off, putting himself and the others in danger.

MemberOvomorphJun-21-2012 6:03 PMUm.....even though I don't think a scarf is a good argument point.....I think all good movies, classic or not, should have a contender against them. Even Alien got bad reviews. Though if you keep this whole criticism thing going too long Merc7 you'll just end up looking like a complete ass.

Pvt. Harrell
MemberOvomorphJun-21-2012 6:06 PMTo add to the scarf comment; I'm sorry but whether or not I'm in space I'd still like to dress and act the ways that make me happy. I'd still do things I'd like to do. :/ maybe wear a scarf.....just saying

MemberOvomorphJun-21-2012 6:09 PM@Drakeequation...On the contrary. I'm a huge fan and love the film. However there are some respectful members here with whom I converse who didn't enjoy the film. In my reflection of the film and through talks with these respectful members I have come to the conclusion that the film does have many flaws. Mainly what some would call lazy writing in regards to characters.
Now you may be right as far as nothing that Merc7 saying will change my mind. Presentation and the way people act go a looong way in contributing to the validity of people's opinions and when someone posts to "wake the fuck up" it just reeks of someone who's opinion means nothing to me. There are far too many members like that on this forum on both sides of the fence.
BTW I did not read the link.

MemberOvomorphJun-21-2012 6:10 PMThis is another good one;
The Scientist who initially ran at the sight of a corpse finally starts to behave like his job description suggests he should. He meets the alien sticking out of the black goo and genuinely seems amazed at what hes seeing. But instead of following some sort of a protocol for when you meet a species for the first time, he decides to act like hes just seen a new puppy for the first time.
It’s coming out of the water, he cant see all of it, how does he know whats on the other end of the tentacle? Why is he trying to touch it? In a situation like that you have to take extreme care just in case the creature can be hurt by you touching it and not to mention that it might be lethal…..and in this case it was.

MemberOvomorphJun-21-2012 6:15 PMYou do realize Merc7 all the points you bring up have counter arguments, right?
Criticism is one thing but you're just bring hate and hate for anything is stupid. Well most things anyways.

MemberOvomorphJun-21-2012 6:19 PMI think Merc7 is aiming this at users like Spartacus who have been pretty active on the dislike reviews board and posted things about how Prometheus is a flawless masterpiece and the greatest film of all time.

MemberOvomorphJun-21-2012 6:20 PMmeh...
I'm not a Prometheus Fan at all, but I believe we have to respect opinions [even if they make little sense or goes against owr own].
That said, I'll move along now.

MemberOvomorphJun-21-2012 6:20 PMRegarding the rolling juggernaut;
This scene looked great and it was an awesome special effect. But logic would suggest that if a huge wheel is rolling a particular direction, it will keep rolling in that direction until it looses momentum and topple over. So, just like everything else in this film, no one does the logical thing of running sideways away from the rolling ship but instead they run in front of it.
Thoughts on this one?

Engineering
MemberOvomorphJun-21-2012 6:24 PMFurthermore, I read opinions which are from the people themselves. Don't really care for the opinion of someone who can't come up with their own reasons to dislike the film and just quote everyone elses.
I'm out this beyatch!

MemberOvomorphJun-21-2012 6:30 PMAnd finally...
The ending of Prometheus is definitely the worst part of the film, it’s so muddled. Somehow David knows that the pissed off Engineer is coming to find Shaw. We don’t know how he knows this but he decides to be nice and warn her. You think that this is going to lead into a long cat and mouse sequence between the Engineer and Shaw, but as soon as the Engineer smashes his way into the room, Shaw presses a button and the engineer is attacked by the ”facehugger.” There is no tension, no build up and no logic.
Shaw decides that instead of going back to Earth, she is going to take David’s head and one of the alien ships to go find more of these Engineers that tried to kill her and get ”answers.” What will she be eating on this trip? Do they have a toilet on the ship? Maybe she will enter hyper sleep but is there a pod she can use on the ship? Is it configured for a human being? And can she trust David because hes been so trustworthy so far!

MemberOvomorphJun-21-2012 6:30 PM@Merc7 I've seen you didn't like the movie, but why are provoking people that liked it? We must respect opinions.
Even if you liked the movie and you just wanted to share this article with us, you wouldn't have the rights of being constantly posting provocative replies like "Read prometheus lovers, it hurts..."

MemberOvomorphJun-21-2012 6:31 PMMerc my boy....the movie is about some rich guy whimming out...It is not a scientific or military operation...You are missing the whole point...its the subject matter that captures us...a space ship on a mission to explore and then they find something....Now that is a great story...if military, this film would hit the heights. If scientific, it would rule because methods and procedures would go along way...Its a trillionaire having a pedicure by a robot...get it?
