I saw the movie yesterday, and there are so many unexplained things so I thought I would line up all my questions here. 1. What exactly is this black goo? It's in the urns, it leaks onto the cavern floor as the urns started to ''sweat'' or ''bleed''. And the crew ''contaminated'' the air, any theories? 2. When exposed to this materia, Holloway seems to decay very quickly while Fifield mutates into an almost unstoppable, violent ape-man. Why did he become hostile? Nothing explains the effect of their infection and they're both dead before we even begin to understand. 3. After Vickers torches Holloway, why doesn't anyone question what she did? Nobody cared! Hell, Janek lost a fellow crew member and then he wants to f... her? Like everything is forgotten!? She's evil, do they even know that already? 4. Speaking of forgetting, Shaw lost her lover but she seems to get over it very quickly, and decides to cooperate with David, who was not only responsible to Holloways death but obviously didn't care about Shaw's condition during the impregnation, and sedated her! Why/how/when did she change her mind? (Also, when Shaw meets Peter Weyland, she's doesn't seem that surprised at all imo, and she even follows him and the rest of the crew back into the ship, without questioning his plans!) 5. LV-223 was only a home for military experiments like Janek said. Who was responsible for making these experiments? Weyland or the Engineers? And what pissed the Engineers off in the first place? What did Weyland do on that planet prior to the events of the mission? 6. As a conclusion; David infects Holloway, why? Holloway mate with Shaw and she is sedated by David. What were they planning to do with her and was this all part of the plan? To extract that not-so-cute creature from her belly? This movie gives me a headache... I'm still disappointed but if somebody could help me understand, then maybe I could start to appreciate this movie more.

Well, I haven't seen it yet because I don't live in the future like you crazy euros, BUT, I think I have the answer to all your questions. From Lindelof's IMDB page:
2004-2010 Lost (TV series)
He wrote Lost. hahaha, that's a joke. Because I suggested someone actually WROTE that trainwreck. But he does have a writing credit. You can see for yourself here: http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0511541/ Hope that helps answer some of your completely legitimate questions about really basic things like character motivation! :3

1) the black goo: ive been discussing this also and as far as the discussions ive had, i think the black goo is the weapon that the engineers created to adapt to any living organism, manipulate it. And so the xeno that we all know and love is the by-product of the goo going through 2 humans and into an engineer. 2) the black goo seems to effect people in different ways, it seemed to have possessed fifields body after he had died, while holloway had been given a small does in liquid and it was slowly killing him 3)everybody was panicked, and in a rush due to what had been happening, so sweeping over halloways death wasnt that big of a deal. Its a narrative thing, and its a flaw but the film takes place over a week so what can you expect ? 4)these complaints are similar to number 3. the characters are on a strange planet and are trying to grasp with the fact that they have found god, so a few flaws in their understanding and the writing of the film can be forgiven in order to move the plot forward. 5) the engineers are responsible for the military instilation on lv-223. the events of promoetheus are the first contact humans have had witht he engineers and this planet 6) david infected halloway for the reason of, seeing what would happen, he was under orders from weyland to 'try harder', at both contacting the engineers and finding out what the black goo is. if you think of all the past films, the weyland company are always trying to bring something back to earth, and if there is the possiblilty that shaw is infected/pregnant then it is only natural that they should want to bring it back to experiment on it.

@ninjacop Finally someone serious. Thank you for your interesting thoughts! Since the movie doesn't tell much imo, It's good to hear different views.

I agree with Merc7. I really want to appreciate this movie more because I think I was beautifully made and I kind of like the idea of the engineers being like us because in Alien, when the camera zooms in on the Space Jokey, you can see it's eyes which look human. But but but.... the plot holes made me sooo angry. So besides the already mentioned plot holes I would like to discuss then following: I need someone to discuss this with. My girlfriend isn't really into science fiction :( 1. evolution on Earth is kind of an important question, if you find identical DNA from a planet lightyears away. You would think that the biologist like Millburn would have explored that aspect A BIT more. Useless biologist I say. Shaw says "that's what I choose to believe". Well... great way to not deal with the evolution aspect. 2. Is it just me or are there more people appearing when it turns out that Wayland is there hinding on the spaceship. Who are those people attending him? There are 4 or 5 at one point. What happens to them????? 3. In the start it says that Prometheus has a crew of 17. Who are those 17. You don't see 17 people getting killed? I counted 12 (Millburn, Fifield, Holloway, Fifields 2 or 3 victims, Ford and the guy with the shotgun and then Janek, Chance and Ravel and Vickers at the end) WTF happens to the rest???? On the IMDB cast list is like 12 people. WHO ARE THE REST? How many does Fifield kill in his rampage? 2 or max 3 or is it more? 4. How is Shaw going to get food on her journey into space? Didn't look like the engineers saved any food for her in the other spaceship. 5. Were there engineer survivors in the other spacecrafts or were they all killed in the first spaceship and only spaceship they explored in the movie? 6. Not a plot whole but whats up with all the monsters. We had the one that killed Millburn and Fifield, then a giant squid and then the "alien" like creature in the end. WTF? Ridley it's not scary to show as many monthers as possible. The squid was ridiculous and more suited for some other pop-sci-fi movie.

@Tubbelub Great thoughts there. I agree that there were too many monsters in this movie. If they'd focused on one creature there would've been more time to build the tension around this specific monster. The only monster I found interesting was the mutated Fifield. It was scary to see such an unstoppable force going rampage like a crazy gorilla and bashing others heads. I would've liked him pursuing the rest of the crew throughout the course of the later acts.

@Merc7 Like MANY of us you are having post-Prometheus blues. It's a serious condition in which you watched a film, FEEL like it shoul have been incredible, but somehow you think it wasn't. Returning home you're confused: 'I should think it was amazing...but I don't?! WHY?!' In your frustration you turn to online explanations, hoping they'll act as a soothing guide to the 'things you missed' in the film. There are no 'things you missed'. That's the agony. There is so much godamned stupidity on display you start doubting your own eyes and brain. You think 'I must be dumb? I must have missed the big explanation?!' But you didn't. There isn't. And your guess is as good as anybodies. It's all wild speculation from here on in!

The squid thing... I don't know what to say. The proto xeno... HR Giger should've designed the new creatures.

weyland wanted holloway infected as he knew he would pass something onto shaw sexually and they could therefore keep it alive in stasis to take back to earth
