What's the point of statistics? Who even cares about rotten tomatoes. I visited that site like twice in my whole life. If you were really disappointed, and if you are really such a big Alien fan as you say, then you know that one movie, made many years after any of the Alien films, can not "destroy the series"
Imagine you are a parent, perhaps you even are. You have a son. He's picture perfect in terms of behaviour, academical achievement, moral, etc. Then you have a second son, and he is the complete opposite. A real brat, misbehaving, selfish, basically since he was very young nobody liked him, even you can't really say you like him, you are disappointed in him, but you love him because you are his father. This second son represents Prometheus for you. (I know you don't love prometheus, but this is just to clarify my analogy) If you were a parent in this situation, would you like your first picture perfect son less, just because the second one came out not so great? Would you say your first son was ruined because of him? Of course not. He is older. An older brother is not influenced by his younger brother, more likely the other way around.
You can criticize Prometheus all you want. But just because you studied film and wrote some screenplays, doesn't mean you can give any more legitimate criticism on a movie than somebody else. It also doesn't mean that you know "what the alien series is all about", which by the way is impossible to define, seeing as how completely different ever Alien movie has been from its predecessor thus far.
Lindelof and Spaiths did the same thing you did, they studied film, wrote other screenplays before this one, which a lot of people liked, just like a lot of people like the story of Prometheus. Their vision differs from yours. Not because they write screenplays for a living and make money off of it, but because their opinion of what makes a good story for a prequel to Alien is different than yours. I am not saying Prometheus is perfect, but the things I didn't like about it do not concern the plot. They concern the pacing and the characters moreover. I have read many discussions on this forum, and I have yet to find a real plot-hole that bothers me.
