Ah yes, you are right.
Fortunatelly, i can read this, i was good at scool.
It says:
"Please insert coin to enter. Please insert 2 coins to stay alive after entered. Please insert 3 coins to enter, stay alive and have a good plot."
As they did not insert ANY coin, we all know what happened...

What a juicy item to bring up and explore...Methinks David is focused on what the old man wants and how to go about it. His only foucs remains his prime programmed directive....whatever the old man says....
That being said, that doesnt excuse Q & A in the moment when discovering an ALIEN message....Good post here for discussion...thank you

Perhaps Shaw will receive instruction from David at some point on her journey to the Engineers hive world. Wouldn't she be pissed if she was able to review the digital recordings from the suit cams, and know what it really said? At least I would be if it implied that David knowingly ignored something that indicated that what lay beyond that door was dangerous.

There was a fairly large lack of scientific standards applied on this mission IMHO.
Frigging idiot biologists too. You NEVER touch the specimen until you've observed it thoroughly in it's natural environment and affirmed that it poses no threat to you or your team.
I mean, REALLY? You try to pet THE ALIEN COBRA-THING THAT REARS UP AND HISSES AT YOU?!?!?
Science H. Logic *shakes head*

"Is it dead this time?" "I dunno, poke it with this stick and see."

..and as the actions of the actors are so poor, i ask myself why should we discuss each and every detail of the plot and interpret endlessly.
Anyway, thats more food for the brain then you receive from "SUPER TALEN"-Shows on tv, so it may be better to waste time on understanding prometheus then wasting time on other things. Anyway - its waste of time, but it may do some fun (for some time..).

When the cobra-alien opened its wings, that should be a PLAIN SIGN FOR DANGER.. it will ATTACK - thats something that even I know, and i am really not a biologist in 2094... dumb plot..

I think Fifield and the other guy were stoned out of their minds and that was the reason for their idiot behavior.

Of course David can read the hieroglyphs, he has been studying the languages for two years (which for a robot brain must be the equivalent of a million human years) This is proved when you see him fluently speak the alien language. He can also read there is danger behind the door, but he has been programed to open it regardless. Human crews are expendable.
As for why the other scientist touched the snake-like creature against all advice? Curiosity! History is full of real samples of scientists who disregarded their own safety in the pursuit of knowledge, some with fatal consequences.
