Tyler Perry is learning a very painful reality in Hollywood–just because you make A-list money, it doesn’t guarantee you A-list cred. While promoting the upcoming Madea Witness Protection, Perry told Blackfilm.com:
“I love Sci Fi, I love the Alien movies and the Alien franchise. I was very disappointed with Prometheus, but I love that whole franchise. Those are my favorite movies. I’m actually working on a sci-fi movie right now.”
Perry’s plans to make a sci-fi movie were like blood in the water. Twitter went haywire as followers created movie titles like “Madea Goes To Mars” and “Tyler Perry’s I Can Do Prometheus All By Myself.”
Things really got interesting when Damon Lindelof, the screenwriter for Prometheus joined in the fray by tweeting, “I, for one CANNOT wait to see “Tyler Perry’s Better Than Prometheus.” Then for good measure, Lindelof sent the following pic (courtesy of Planet Pulp) titled “EXCLUSIVE SET PHOTO From “Tyler Perry’s Madea Killed Space Jesus”:

Lindelof ended his hilarious ribbing with “Okay. Moving on now. Tyler Perry is entitled to his opinion, and I respect him for sharing it.” No word from Perry, or Madea as of yet.

LMFAO, I loved this story and thought I would share it...Now I know 100% that I was absolutely correct about this film, especially now after Perry's Comments, it has to be a near MASTERPIECE because in order for it to be one it had to inspire people, hundreds upon hundreds of people, with absolutely no experience having made films, who know NOTHING about the film making process, who would not even be able to ever tell you what the first talking motion picture in North America is yet they think they are, to say the absolute dumbest things I have ever4 heard said about a film and in almost each and every case of this I have seen it seems to be blindly being done by people or a person that seems to be on some sort of "EGO" trip. My overall argument is that the "This film was bad" argument is weak, based on a house of cards foundation and lacking in any intellectual appreciation for the art form what so ever!!! I have never seen so many people who's so called "HATE & DISGUST" FOR ANY FILM LED THEM TO STAY AROUND ON IT'S WEB SITES FOR MONTHS AFTER DISCUSSING THIS ONE DEAD END MALIGNANT AND IMHO TOTALLY BASELESS BY THE VERY merits of the film making process itself and the fact that this film is now turning a Huge profit !!!
MVMNTJune 28, 2012
Pardon? (p.s use paragraphs)
I've just googled Madea. Look's like the shit lovechild of Big Momma's House, Nutty Professor and Norbit
Really, really sh*t.
Lindelof point scoring there too

The system will not let me edit my posts this morning after I post them
and I edited the ending of my comments to read as follows...

Inquisitor TremayneJune 28, 2012
Yeah! Nobody would stick around to argue against something that sucked at the site with all the people who worship the movie hang out! Never! I'm still waiting for the compelling information as to "why?" this movie is a masterpiece! Please spell it out; I'm thick! I can't spell IQ! So please tell me why the scientist on this funny trip are so smart or stupid for the sake of smart; however you're coloring it now, and, use your spade to fill in all the story/plot holes please! Approaching critical thickness - awaiting enlightenment! Grand Inquisitor Tremayne!

oh, never mind, I see now, you are upset because i did not seperate that post into paragraphs which I almost always do but COULD NOT, ONCE AGAIN, I cannot edit my posts in this case. My humble apologies to you if that really truly did present some kind of "Problem" with your reading it...and goes hand in hand {& after that comment I am sure now If I check I will find you decided you did not like this film} with everything I just wrote in it, thank you for helping me totally prove my point! Especially if that was the comment you came away thinking needed to be made after you read that story.

SpartacusJune 28, 2012
@ "IT"
There are No Story OR Plot Holes AT ALL IN THIS FILM WHAT SO EVER and once again, these were not Scientists by definition, they were specialists called to assist in a Privately funded Non Military Operation with the opportunity to confront and engage what were supposed to be friendly life forms that had issued and invitation for them to be there to begin with, the hole is NOT in the story or Plot, it is IN THE FAULTY INTERPRETATION OF IT YOU And many others have made. But please do feel free to continue to hurl your venom at me for supporting it's place as an artistic Tour De Force in the Sci-Fi/Horror Genre. I never said even once that I worship this film and have pointed out several things in it I did NOT like, but overall my experience in the IMAX theater was AWESOME IN FACT...NOTHING SHORT OF THAT. I DID NOT GO INTO THIS FILM, LIKE SO MANY OTHERS DID WITH A PRE-CONCEIVED NOTION OF WHAT THIS FILM SHOULD BE ABOUT!

ALSO YOU CALLED IT "STICKING AROUND TO ARGUE"
i wish to be clear about something else now...I never ONCE came onto these boards, and NEVER will, to "ARGUE". My motive for being here is my love for the ALIEN franchise and my appreciation for the work of Ridley Scott in this genre. Most importantly the true underlying motive is just my love of film in general which I studied for many years as a kid. My ONLY motivation is the discuss Mostly the POSITIVE aspects of this franchise and it's films and NOT to discourage or upset or rattle anyone that thinks any differently than I do. I do not care if anyone HATES this film even...but after you have said so once...?..what else is there for you to say...move along now, IMHO you made you position clear and that means there is nothing left for you to discuss unless you like to spend your days and nights "ARGUING" as you so PERFECTLY said.
~Cheers!
TathelJune 28, 2012
There aren't enough sci-fi films in general, and you can never tell what someone will do when they work outside their wheelhouse. I don't like Mr. Perry's other stuff but I would encourage an atmosphere of excitement toward any potential sci-fi project until enough is revealed about plot or production to allow some judgements to be informed.

SpartacusJune 28, 2012
I agree Tathel very well said, I will support any idea that supports the art form, you are so right, there aren't enough of these films like Prometheus! Further to that I would like to suggest that the Sci Fi Horror Genre is the best one in all of film.

@Forever War
At the risk of being stoned to death...I don't think Blade Runner is that deep. It really don't. But it is brilliant. It's solid story-telling centred around an fascinating concept and executed wonderfully both visually and narratively. No one ever talks about Phillip K Dicks book? They only talk about the film adaptation. Which makes me think it's an aesthetic judgement?
Seriously though this post is hilarious, and Lindeloff deserves some serious props for defending his work.
I'm now off to order tickets to 'Tyler Perry's: Madae Killed Space Jesus'. I predict a black man dressing as a woman and talking in a 'sassy' voice...on a space-ship.
brightonrockJune 28, 2012
@Spartacus
Slipp_Digby has a point. What do you think of Tyler Perry's estimation of Prometheus?
You've spent a lot of time saying if you haven't worked in the industry...you have no grounds to judge Prometheus. Now, someone who has and does work in the industry has spoken.
I take it your respect his opinion and would observe with admission any criticism he gave of it? Or would you still just dismiss?
brightonrockJune 28, 2012
Why is it 'deceitful', 'warped' and 'dishonest'?
I think Slipp is just wondering if you're indulging in the negativity that you've so often accused others of?
It's a serious question?

SpartacusJune 28, 2012
So why are you posting a thread purely to mock someone who disagrees with your opinion on Prometheus.
THAT RIGHT THERE IS THE EXACT KJND OF DECEITFUL AND WARPED AND DISHONEST AND ILL INTENDED COMMENT THAT HAS NO PLACE ON THIS FORUM.

SpartacusJune 28, 2012
Thanks you FW and with regards to Prometheus and all the rediculous unfounded flack Lindelof has taken it was nice to see how he has the courage of his own convictions not to let it get to him.

Forever WarJune 28, 2012
Brightonrock
Nah, no stones comin your way...and I want those tickets too Haha...somehow Damon redeemed himself...Ridley had to help him out lol

patcholdJune 28, 2012
Like my profile says, I could careless if a film is good or bad... as long as it's fricken made. The points everyone are making are valid in their opinion, and that is the key to this discussion... everyone is entitled to theirs...period. Now eat some damn waffles...

Does this mean I need to exhibit the attribute's of a culinary acclaimed food-taster or chef to enjoy my lunch because I'm not a criticaly accaimed film maker to expound on this film ?

SpartacusJune 28, 2012
Brightenrock I meant to mention this earlier...while I acknowledge that BLADE RUNNER is a HIGHLY entertaining film and like Prometheus Visually stunning
one thing that I have noticed after all these years of it's release is that it has had an almost non existent "shelf life", the film is an IMPOSSIBLE BORE to watch today. Way less gratifying to see today then when it was first released in 1980 I believe it was.

joeyjoeJune 28, 2012
Good for lindelof! What could have possibly given tyler perry the impression that he was entitled to express his opinion? Sit back down mr. perry. Mr. Scott saw your hand up, but has yet to call on you.

DesperateHouseWifeJune 28, 2012
*splutters* bladerunner, a bore?!
perhaps this is more to your taste, sparty >:P

.... I sense a forest fire soon... moves the Prometheus Kitchen into the service van... LOL

SpartacusJune 28, 2012
I could watch Blade Runner over and over and over though just to see the scenes with Joanna Cassidy in them, she was HOT at one time when she was much younger, and still looks fabulous today! She never Bores me!!! But If I am honest, today, that film does....but also in fairness to this I have seen that film about 500 times at least~maybe any film you see that much will seem boring after 35 years...no...?...

DesperateHouseWifeJune 28, 2012
you're right there. cassidy is a BABE <3
always loved the way she said " mr deckard."

EngineeringJune 28, 2012
What's funny is that Perry is making fun of Prometheus when "Madea Killed Space Jesus" is EXACTLY the type of film Perry would make. Formulaic, sh*t cinema with a capital S.

@Inquisitor...Don't mind you hanging around but if you haven't gotten them by now you're obviously not going to get the answers you're looking for here or anywhere else. It's clear you think the film is sh*t and that your opinion isn't going to change. So maybe both sides should just come to grips with this fact. I have and now see you in a much different light than I did a few weeks ago. I don't think you should find it so insane that people love this film and I don't think others should find it insane that you think it's sh*t. I don't think people who liked the film should have to explain why they liked it and I certainly don't think that people that don't like it should have to explain their reasons. However, for me, the jury is still out as to why the few folks that don't like the film have hung around. It's simply a fact of forum life that both sides are going to have to deal with.
I would totally understand if someone was on the fence about the film and wanted to come and further investigate to form an opinion.
To be honest, I think we need both sides of the argument. There are at least 2 sides to everything. I think it's pretty foolish if you just pick a side without first considering all the info.

I believe we have strayed off course , '' I love Sci Fi, I love the Alien movies and the Alien franchise, I was very disappointed with Prometheus, but I love the franchise''... what was was wrong with his conviction ?

MaiafayJune 28, 2012
@Sundar...
It's because Terry doesn't really make...quality movies. It's like Stephanie Meyer telling Stephen King he doesn't know how to tell a story - or how to write.

SpartacusJune 28, 2012
its funny, when I made this thread this morning I did so because I have respect for what Perry said...
I was very impressed with this at the start...
