Why I like the AVP films

OK, it seems 70% of people on this board vehemently dislike the AVP franchise. I don't get it. These films are intended to be fun, and they are fun. Why deny yourself some fun just because of OCD ? Life is messy, deal with it. OK, so some reasons I like these films: AVP 1) Some time is devoted to developing the back-story of the characters. OK, it's done in a cliched way, but who cares. You need to introduce us to the characters. It's a tried and tested storytelling truism. 2) The scene where the Predator slices the Xeno's head open without bothering to look. Either you like this kind of cheese, or you don't. I love it. 3) The temple concept. Chained Queen. 4) Predator ship, Predator deployment. Awesome. AVP2 1) The scenes where the Alien is at the little girl's window at night. Made me scared of the Xeno again for the first time in many years 2) The strategic intelligence of the Xenos. It's the first time the Xenos have been smart since Alien. In Alien 2, 3, 4 they're basically straight up carnivores. 3) Pregna-impregnation scene. So bad it's good. So, as they used to say, flame me!

awww, no :) you insulted my OCD grouping on false claims. i am a huge biology nerd and many of the AVP creature issues dont match the biology of either creature, pred or alien. mainly i dont like those movies because they seem like fan fic scripts and the production was rushed. the "pred alien" sucked ass!!! from what i have seen, the xeno only takes enough DNA from the host to live in the environment it is born into. in most movies the alien doesnt change that much, but the pred alien is freakin retarded. they only take little bits of DNA to survive, a half xeno half pred is just stupid.

i have found at least one thing in each of the alien franchise films I like. In the first AVP film it was what we widely accept as just the "Flyin' Vagina's" scene now...as well as the Queen at the end of that and in the 2nd one...it was the scene in which it appears that several xeno's have orange eyes according to Snorky because of the reflection of light off the camera lenses but never the less they swarm in and I love that scene at the end.

That "orange eyes" scene... ...Is actually from the first AVP, when the Drones set the Queen free.

The strategic intelligence of the Xenos. It's the first time the Xenos have been smart since Alien. In Alien 2, but... in "Aliens" they cut the power, much to Hudson's disbelief and dismay. "What do you mean they cut the power? How can they cut the power, man? They're animals!!!"

At the end of the first AvP, the chick and the Predator had a moment. Hell, I thought they were gonna make out. I laughed hard.

Alien Intelligence... Alien - Stowing aboard the Narcissus Aliens - Nesting underneath the reactor. Turning off the power Alien 3 - Grabbing the prisoner and quickly retreating from the activation of the mold. Alien Rez - Activating the plunger. Forcing humans into a trap. AVP - Hiding from and Killing a Predator unharmed. Facehugger hugging Scar as he "scars" himself. AVPR - Can't think of any?!?

The first AVP is in my opinion a fun movie like you said, and deserves a watch, despite that 'cheese'. But AVP2 is a very different movie in my opinion. There's no character developement like in the first one, the characters are there just to die and there's no suspense. However, the action/fight scenes are really cool and well-made.
Have you heard of phoenix asteroids? They glow in every color of the rainbow...they travel endlessly through space...

They may be fun but they are badly made - rubber suited predators etc. etc. the original predator looked more real!

More intelligience in "Aliens", after being cut down with sentry guns, and cutting the power, the Aliens decide to crawl quietly in the space above the suspended ceiling in order to drop in on the Marines, who are expecting them to come through the door. That was pretty sneaky. If not for the motion trackers giving a reading inside the room (which the Aliens wouldn't know about) they could have dropped right on them.

The first AvP served it's purpose as a decent, fun popcorn flick. I do believe they made the most annoying and unbelievable film heroine EVER. I've NEVER been so annoyed by any character in any movie unless the caracter was meant to be annoying. AvP:R failed on all levels...miserably. What really makes me scratch my head is the directing duos choice to go Scott style and keep the xenos and Preds in shadow. I mean, the ONLY reason you would want to watch this film is to get to see the hybrid and the others. The descision to hide the films only flimsy selling point was simply retarded imo. And as others have stated there are numerous instances across the board of the xenos being intelligent.
