- It is unknown if the planet exists before arrival
- "Destination: undisclosed" (the company may never have released info on the expedition/ confirmation of existence of the planet- planets could well have multiple classification schemes, eg life support candidates, and are subject to misclassification)
- Silica Sand storm (high winds/erosion- David; "..desert")
- Atmospheric composition
- Camera angle upon returning - never see front of seat (confirmation required)
- "He" could have awoken as many other engineers on ambient ships as necessary, while or after taking off (possibly even on the same ship). They could've been impregnated (upon reaching the derelict ship), even awoken and attempted a seated auto extraction procedure, before exploding (like for humans in Alien, not like the engineer shown in P1)
- Could the androids head see which alien was "coming"?
- There are never any close ups of the other chambers (would it have been in the android's interest to inform them of others still in hibernation?)
- why is the company so adamant on obtaining the Alien for their bio-weapons division if there is a free sample on another planet?
- how did the company know about the derelict ship?
- What is the probability of crash landing from that altitude (or had it already reached terminal velocity?)
- queen sized
- "it's what I choose to believe"
- the raindrop prelude

MemberOvomorphJun-29-2012 10:49 PMThe alternative is that they have been engineering a superior biological weapon, and by its very definition it could not be contained.
The xenomorph was an advanced alien - there was no incubation period, no time to self abort. Its size perhaps an indication also (as mentioned elsewhere). It no longer requires a queen to lay eggs. (Perhaps some byproduct even turns people against each other rather than killing them straight off?) The tomb requires some explanation- why did they wish to escape there? Had they the chance to release a vaccine (or counter attack)? But were decapitated in the process of quarantine maintenance? Was even an alien that vaccine?
Humanoid life on earth was unplanned, and Prometheus was exiled as a consequence of his creativity, probably given a suicide pill for honour's sake. Technologically advanced humans are a threat and have been targeted for destruction. Fortunately for us their final concoction went terribly wrong, and humanity has already said bon voyage to planet earth and begun mass colonisation.
We are now competitors, and perhaps we sparked an intragalactic conflict, of which our own military advances are dearly sought after. This doesn't explain there being extra-galactic destinations programmed into the ship's navigation system, but it might explain an arsenal of nukes. Nb the galaxies might well seem like a post production artefact, along with over representative ringularity and nebulosity, planets and stars which are clearly not observable in 3d but are, and where scenes that require cg occur in the most easy to render landscapes/canyons, but am beginning to doubt it.
Considering the eggs stayed in hibernation for a million years, their curators probably live for the same ("not immortal after all"). Giving no explanation in film Is probably testimony to how radical this account of human existence really is relative to present world view, our inability to grasp at that beyond our preconceptions, and therefore his unaffected genius.

UPDATE 1:
(... but wouldn't they have mapped out the local systems after humanity's first major expedition into confirmed ET territory, especially considering all the terraforming Wayland corp was doing, and the proximity of the LV stellar neighborhood to earth? It is pretty clear (from Aliens) that Wayland corp weren't giving away any secrets, but why then hadn't they detected the distress beacon earlier - LV223 being only 10 light years away from LV426? Had it been activated...?)
Personally I like the middle ground.
Different Planet, different ship. Same Alien.
A mutant xenomorph with a half human reproductive system - a queen.
There were 3 ships right? Just enough to accommodate about any sleeping plot twist you like.
The worst cast scenario is that this movie ties in better with AvP (whatever that was) than it does with Alien. Or maybe Ridley, having found the secret of the neverending film, is sitting back and enjoying the mental carnage unleashed.

UPDATE 2:
It is however more likely that the Primetheus-Alien connection consists of the derelict spacecraft on LV426 being an escaping vessel from the original outbreak on LV223.
Secondarily Prometheus describes how to make an Alien: acid for blood worm + weaponised/catalytic sperm/fluids + humanoid egg/DNA (though the Aliens we are familiar with probably either used Engineer DNA or early generation human DNA- not current generation human DNA). The same apparent fertilisation process that was shown to happen with Liz could have been designed to occur on-site -mass production- at the military outpost (little worm + black substance + canister of humanoid DNA). The black substance could be a catalyst initiating the genetic destruction/recombination.

UPDATE 3:
The connection between the films appears resolvable through the Face hugger size. Both Alien 1 and Prometheus have a large (presumable same generation) face hugger that attacks and impregnates their SJs. The outbreak on both LV426 and LV223 definitely appear connected.
The actual xenomorph type is not needed to be the same between the films. It is strange therefore that they showed the xenomorph at the end of Prometheus.
If the xenomorph type is the same however, then the one in Prometheus must be different to what has been seen born in the films before (given its unique history), and therefore must be a first generation/queen. This would imply that the xenomorph that exploded from the SJ on LV426 was a queen also. Following this, it would be far too coincidental for the derelict ship on LV426 to have an unconnected batch of eggs, and so the queen must have been intelligent enough to lay its eggs in a trip wire (similar tactics from Alien Resurrection). It is unlikely the eggs on LV426 would be product of the queen xenomorph generated on LV223, as they would be far too young based on their dating (let alone requiring a sleeping SJ on a third ship). Regardless, given the already unlikely coincidence of two derelict ships, the coincidence of two remaining queens leaves too many plot holes:
1. If the eggs on LV426 were not product of the queen on LV223, then what became of the xenomorph and its offspring on LV223?
2. If the eggs on LV426 were product of the queen on LV223, then what became of the xenomorph queen on LV426?
(Now it were the same planet and the SJ was impregnated on his chair it would be another story). The same xenomorph type theory is therefore rejected.
Prometheus therefore tells the story of a different generation of Alien; not the one in the cargo bay of the derelict ship on LV426 - but the one that attacked and impregnated its SJ.

UPDATE 4:
[EDIT: IDENTICAL FACE HUGGER PRESUMPTION IS FALSE BASED ON PROMETHEUS SCREENSHOTS]
The deacon is a proto-xeno (and is either a queen itself or protects a co-created queen/egg) - it is the same generation Alien:
- the Trilobite body hugger on the SJ in Alien 1 is identical to that in Prometheus (giant sized)
- so the derelict ship on LV426 cannot be 1 million years old - it must be an escaping vessel from the original outbreak on LV223 (~2000 years old). Eggs surviving for 1 million years is questionable (but 2000 years seems more feasible). Perhaps the dating/measurement was taken of the age of the derelict vessel itself, and not of the fossilised remains. (Or more comically, perhaps they still have some carbon dating issues to sort out?)
- What created the Aliens like cocooning on the derelict vessel if not a classic xenomorph?
- A biological weapon without a reproductive system is ineffective. That is what makes the Alien so formidable.
- The simultaneous creation of a queen and a body guard is not a new concept (it is similar to the life cycle shown between Aliens and Alien3)
- The importance of the xenomorph reproductive system is highlighted in Alien Resurrection (perhaps it has quite a flexible one, that can adapt easily to its circumstances)
- It makes sense the Alien DNA was transported and deployed in contained vessels, but this does not mean that the Alien itself had to be of a different generation.
- Alien was already the perfect species - why modify?
I advocate the rogue "creation" (gift of fire) to the humans - hence the title Prometheus (and their consequent target for destruction). The Engineer (or "Prometheus" as I like to call him) had already given "fire" to the humans - and was banished/executed for his crime (forced to take a suicide pill). The movie doesn't say anything about the engineers creating life on earth. The only reference is something like 'two centuries of evolution' - but that doesn't imply evolutionary theory in its entirety is to be disregarded (or reduced to low cell count organisms).

UPDATE 5:
The SJ facehugger (and resulting xenomorph) on LV426 appears unconnected to the events on LV223 in Prometheus. It may possibly have been a queen and consequently laid the eggs in the cargo bay (although much evidence is against this). There remains a chance the derelict ship on LV426 was a contaminated escaping vessel from the events on LV223 (~2000 years ago), but this need not be the case (see UPDATE3).
