To go along with the idea that WE will also influence other planets with OUR presence and our DNA (so to speak): I think Prometheus is saying (to some extent) that we need to get our act together, get our priorities straight, get the right mindset, etc, or else we'll not only destroy ourselves and our planet, but it will likely have repercussions that will reverberate much further throughout the universe.
I think Shaw represents a well-intentioned, but misguided humanity because of her "faith." But she's determined to get "answers," to find the truth, so she's getting on the right track... which is why I'm so curious to see where it goes from here...

Are we ready to go to other planets? not that I know of.
Should we go to other planets that have life on them? no
Should other peeps from other planets come here? Probabily not a good idea.
Should we stay here and live our lives and take care of ourselves and the planet? Definetly
And what if others come or have already come and interact with us? life goes on as always.

... mmm ok nothing new there, and yes our planet is a beautiful result of galactic formation and circumstance, a extremely rare planet with water and other liquids and organic life.
