What do Prometheus, Maynard James Keenan of Tool etc and wine have in common?

MemberOvomorphJul-04-2012 12:27 AMI've been a fan of Tool since I was in junior high and love all Maynard's music projects as well as his wine venture. I've been into wine for a while and got even more into it when I went to a signing Keenan had at a Whole Foods to promote his, at the time, fairly new venture.
Somehow I had totally missed that they made a documentary called "Blood into Wine" which tells the story of Keenan and his partner Eric Glomski's venture into not-so-wine country.
Anyway, I was watching it and Keenan said something about a bit of his strategy that really hit home in regards to Prometheus and why I dig it, Ridley Scott, wine, Tool, A Perfect Circle, Puscifer, Maynard and many other things. He said...
"I've built an entire career on not giving away the whole farm as far as explaination. It's been an element of I'll give you or I'll present you with a particular odor and then throw it out in the air. Then you have some kind of sense of memory of those shapes, colors, sizes, sounds and you draw from your own experience. Then if you have...if there's missing pieces and you're the kind of person that likes to ask questions there's gonna be a lot for you to discover."
This statement perfectly explains many things I love and with Prometheus so prevalent in my mind recently it really hit home and made me want to share it.
It's not a mistake that the film is the way it is. The filmakers thought it through. While trying to keep a bit of mass apeal they made a film that was also aimed at a specific audience. They hit that audience right in the bullseye and I know because I'm one of them. There may not be many of us but we are around and we appreciate the bold, brave film Scott and co set out to make.
Wow, I have to stop there as I sound pretty f**king cheesy lol.

MemberOvomorphJul-04-2012 12:45 AM@Svanya...Yep, AMotion is so great. I can't tell you the things I've done with the Bird Shake Mix of Blue in the background. Ahhhh good times.
@deftones1986...I'm glad I got some back up because that was the fan boy-ist post I've ever written lol.
I do recommend "Blood into Wine" to anyone. Not just Keenan or wine enthusiasts.

MemberOvomorphJul-04-2012 12:43 AMNo dude I totally 100% agree, and I'm really seriously getting sick of these people who are trolling the forums and just chalking the movie up to "bad writing" or "bad script". I really wish these types of people would go away instead of pushing the buttons that they think will make us argue with them.
I'm just glad that there are those of us out there who refuse to believe this was a bad movie and then proceed to hate on it like above mentioned close-minded people.
I'm the furthest away from being a Star Trek fan, I think it's stupid. But I would NEVER go around hating on the show just to do it, it's like, can't we all be grown up and if we don't like something, we stay away from it right?
We are a small group indeed who believe there is so much more than meets the eye with this movie and will forever search every door, every nook an crannie till we are at peace with the movie as a whole.

MemberOvomorphJul-04-2012 7:35 AMgood post man,
that is what I love about TOOL Maynard doesn't even release lyrics for (sometimes) years after an albums release because it's kind of up to us to interpret songs for ourselves and I do that with film too. I don't really believe in "professional" movie critics because they may see a film one way but rarely the way I see it.

I love TOOL, because most of the time I am one... but I do strive to be a better person in the end. "Not giving away the farm" is the perfect expression... in so many medias; readers, audience members and listeners are expecting everything to be handed to them without having to exert any effort...
