MemberOvomorphJul-05-2012 5:54 PMI do hope it does get 300 mil that would give it enough to make a sequel!

MemberOvomorphJul-05-2012 6:07 PMEven I'm surpised to see the film's global box office take rise up to almost $290 million this quickly. There are 9 countries remaining on it's schedule of release dates and 3 of those countries (Spain, Germany and Japan) stand to bring in a fair amount of revenue for the film. There's a very decent chance that the film will surpass the $325 million mark before it leaves the theaters.

Are you serious? 9 countries still haven't seen this???
Yeah. I think it will break that mark. Good news for those of us that want sequels.
I wonder what the market percentage is from DVD sales when it occurs?

MemberOvomorphJul-05-2012 8:22 PM9 more countries still.... that's still a lot... but what countries... "the republic of 10 people?" LOL Just joking... still feel like an accountant with whiskers... "Meow how much are you trying to deduct and no scratchpads do not count..."

MemberOvomorphJul-05-2012 10:15 PMPatch: You're not too far off in joking about nations with a population of 10 people, which is why I only mentioned Spain, Germany and Japan in my earlier post.
RSAND & patch: Per IMDB the below countries are the remaining countries where the film will be released in theaters.
Poland 20 July 2012
Georgia August 2012
Spain 3 August 2012
Venezuela 3 August 2012
Austria 8 August 2012
Germany 9 August 2012
Switzerland 9 August 2012 (German speaking region)
Japan 24 August 2012
Italy 19 October 2012
Switzerland 19 October 2012
Based on my recent peeks at the summer box office returns I'd say that Spain, Germany and Japan are likely to combine for $15 - $25 million in box office sales.
I'd say that it's fairly reasonable to project a minimum of $325 million in ticket sales before the film leaves theaters.

MemberOvomorphJul-06-2012 12:34 AMyeah, id say 300 million worldwide was probably the benchmark for this film (they probably hoped for more, but 300 mill. was probably the litmus test as far as the film being considered a successful endeavor or not). I imagine that prometheus will do particularly well in japan. Looks like 300 million easy. I sure hope Scott and co. are able to get right to the sequel! on a side note, the blu ray is going to be released in the States before some (switzerland) even get the film in theaters. My goodness! poor folks.

MemberOvomorphJul-06-2012 12:42 AMThis is like the 8th Box Office Mojo thread created since I started it way back then lol.
I said all along that the movie will make a profit but it still does not attest to the quality of the film.
I just hope a sequel will fix that bad plot/acting/storytelling of the first.
Ridley Scott got lucky with this film making the most of the rest and I attribute that to the viral marketing and loyal fanbase out there plus the ones that love it with their weird justifications. What bothers me is that I have seen really good movies tank at the box office and this one showed it can be really bad with a big box office and still make a profit. I am not talking Transformers bad but it being rated R and the theme of the film.
