Since the Mrs was watching Magic Mike with the ladies, I took in Prometheus for a third time. Here are my new observations. First, the planet at the start of the film is not Earth. It cannot be as it would have to have been nearly a Billion years ago as the fossil records shows life on earth in the form of Dinosaaurs millions of years ago, sure it could be post dinosaurs when man emerged, but when the ship comes in for landing, the geoscape aside from the waterfall of LV 233 looks alot like what we see at the film in parts, there is a desert yes, but also snow covered peaks and lava fields hardened. Now the Skull in the mountain, easy enough. What do we mark poison and dangerous stuff with? A skull and crossbones. This is how they marked what were the deadly silos. Death is here. We know from Alien they placed a warning beacon to tell people danger was present, same thing.

Can't argue about the death symbols, etc. Though it's interesting to me that the canisters are (still) arranged neatly, despite holograms of frantic Engineers running into the chamber 2000 years ago and no one being there since. Further, if the canisters filled with goo are merely being stored there, I can't think of a less efficient use of space than the way they are neatly spaced out. As for whether the opening scene takes place on Earth or not (I agree LV-223 looks "similar" to the areas shown, we will simply never know whether it is or not, until perhaps the sequel. Period. Even if some geologist said the areas shown are the northern part of Utah, we'd have to speculate as to whether RS wanted us to know they were the northern parts of Utah via some geologist. See what I mean? There simply are not enough facts to prove where it is.

I think the opening scene of promethueus was just to illustrate the concept of the "seed engineer and the function of the black slime.
"how do you feel?"-" great, next stupid question"

In the opening shot from outer space, the African Continent is very unmistakable...

The face on the dune, I may be mistaken but in the first glimpse we see of it isn't it still covered somewhat with dirt or rock and debris having the appearance of a complete face with flesh ? Then its not seen again until its eroding in the storm revealing a skull.
