Build a lab and save DNA of all the species that are present, about to extinct and keep the log of their changes like the programmers keep it with subversion (git). :P Let there be dumb ideas and delusion (ahem), that keeps curiosity alive. Ok, here goes... IMO... Engineers may just be as clueless as we are. Farther advanced, sure. Intelligent, throw that in there too. Engineers do have access to some pretty nasty stuff, yes. So do we, humans. If I was an all powerful Engineer, and I wanted to help humanity along... I'd give them something powerful, something dangerous. So much so, that they'd have to join together to conquer it. (When humans are face to face with extinction, they tend to come together as a unit.) Just saying, late night thought. Ehhhh.....
