Hello, Hope you're all having a great day so far. I decided to ask a unique question about the film we all saw here for 2 reasons... The first is I have not seen that anyone else here has asked it and if someone could point me to any thread where anyone else did that would be great. If Not...here's my question... The 2nd is, it has been driving me bat sh** and is stuck in the back of my brain like that time YOU struck out at "T-Ball". LOL... I call them "Ressonance Hollograms". TWICE, at least, in this film, David activates what appear to be Holographic "Resonance Memories" of the Space Jockey's Past Physical Actions On Board the Derelict Ship. One time, while David8 is holding the Holographic sphere of EARTH, it seems like all the POWER just immediately DRAINS from the Whole "Sparkling Holographic Orgasm" and then in an instant everything just collapses on itself and goes dark to the pulse of the lone SJ in stasus. What the heck are "Holographic Resonance Memories" and is that even scientifically possible? & Could someone explain to me what was actually going on with that whole star chart Holographic MEMORY Resonance...why were we shown that? Why was it important we saw it, so we could wonder about what the SJ's were doing with those Holograms or was there some meaning and purpose in them {there must have been} that I might have and "prolly" missed? ALL of the crew saw the Holograms of the SJ's fleeing in the tunnels {were "prolly" running from a Deacon, or whatever it was it burst out of one of them that's for sure} so something about the whole process of it and what we were actually seeing needs explaining for me...Help...lol... any help in this regard would be great! Most importantly, after you explain how it is possible...why did it suddenly "shut off"...at the very moment and in the very way it did.

so no one knows?

They were recordings made by the alien equivalent of something like a flight data recorder (black box). Press to continue.

thank you, that is so cool and I had no idea what so ever. didn't even think of it that way and doing so solves so much for me, I suspected as much but have no idea how or why David8 was able to access them at will like that unless he has some abilities we do not as of yet know about.

The recordings exist but begs several other inquiries.. Why Were they made? How were they Made? How extensive is the coverage? Where is the ship's log? In any case there must be additioanal recordings,,perhaps more important than the scenes we witnessed..

anyone know why all the power just drained out of the whole thing when it did? Or Is that just their Black Box's Version of a "Monday Night Football" replay running out of tape?

If I were to hazard a guess, the buttons that David pressed only triggered a selected excerpt. Maybe there are thousands of years' worth of recordings hidden away somewhere.

...Of course, it's much more than the boring old holograms that we can produce in 2012, since David was able to physically interact with certain elements. Now that would be really cool if we could do that with today's tech.

the whole idea is fascinating to me and may be the single most important thing shown in the entire film.

where did you get the Resonance Hologram idea from Sparts?

@ David1: To me when I first saw the film in IMAX3D I was completely blown away by how visually stunning that whole scene was so I thought about it a lot and I realized that what David8 triggered seem to me to be a replay of actual events, it just looked like we were seeing a past chapter In The Engineer's actions once they had arrived at LV-223. I thought of the word "Resonance" because in my dumb brain, this is how I associate anything attached to "sense memory" like when I cry watching a totally childish film like The New version of "The Muppets" {Which is Fantastic by the way} The reason I do is a build up of sense memory and this can only come from past experiences and the memories you retain from them so sometimes yo might hear a certain song and start to cry not because you are sad but because it touches your "sense memory" of some long ago event or thing that "moved" you. It is my understanding that our memories and dreams and stuff like that is all connected to our "sense memory", and also, the images reminded me of something that "Lingered" something that happened in the past but a trace of it remains in the "Space Time Continuum" as mentioned in the film A.I. {Yet another totally overlooked and under appreciated and fascinating Sci-Fi Film in which "DNA" and "what I call"Resonance memory" was KEY as well.} I guess I got it from the fact that Memories in and of themselves are a "Resonance" of sorts of our own personal past.

Makes sense to me Sparts. Plus those Holograms were interactive. Lot of resonance there.

Good post Sparty, those are two of the most haunting scenes in the film for me - those ghostly replays of both the SJs in the tunnel and the Engies on the flight deck. In the latter, they come across with an almost benign camaraderie as they prepare for some momentous launch - even the 'silly' flute thing seems somehow fittingly 'alien' now in hindsight. The most dramatic however, is the former sequence in the tunnels as the colossi with the familiar elephantine visages round the corner and run 'obliviously' past. It's all 'stone tape' theory thing and similar isn't it?

"....triggered a selected excerpt. Maybe there are thousands of years' worth of recordings hidden away somewhere..." Yes Just think about how many phone calls.emails..voicemails are saved/retrieved now...and project to the Engineers time/development. Could be everybody had their own recording skills..sort of super memory.. For me ,, why even have the recordings? Were the Engineers theatened as much as the current human race is..and wants to watch all aspects of their life? Perhaps it ot that they wanted for their own records of events,,,but their Creators as documented facts that the Creators' work is being done in a timely manner.

@ZetaReticuli, I think they may have been fleeing a "Deacon" or even in that case an actual "Xenomorph" as we remember them. *Fifield and Milburn, as I am sure you realized/noticed, found one of them with his chest burst open in the same tunnel*

@ Indy John Quote " why even have the recordings?" If i'm not mistaken..... a "black box" in an airplane will only start recording when something triggers an "emergency". So if it's only a black box and not a database of every random video the Engineers decided to make, then I believe whatever was happening to the running Engineers, triggered the black box to initiate itself, recording them running, and also the flight deck scene we see. So if that's the case, then the real question is, what else did the black box record that we weren't shown when the s*** hit the fan?

@deftones1986 #1-They were good man I remember them...{"The Deftones" that is} #2-I Love what you said to Indy John. That has me intrigued now and wanting more of the Engineers Monday Night Football "Flight Recorders" Lmfao, The engineers were all running like O.J. Simpson heading for the Hettz Reception Counter to get you that car!

@Spartacus, the significance in the the hologram "replay" in the star map room - I looked for it on my second viewing in the theater: Earth is highlighted by red beams before David starts holding it, thus indicating the Engineers were singling it out for something - from this, plus their conversation, David deduced they were on their way to Earth to clean house

Even though this goes against my PERSONAL rule of not talking about anything other than the original post, but I had to do it; @Jim100a100: Awesome GIF image dude so badass !!!!!!!!!!!!!! and @ Spartacus: Yeah man, hands down 1 of my top 3 fav bands. Anyway, back to the discussion here.....................

@Jim100a100, Thanks man, a lot, in fact it got me thinking that yea he held it up, and just to access it I think he needed to hit the right notes on that flute which I guess is how the Flight Recorder thingy gets initiated. @Deftones 1986, If your ever in any of my threads for enough time you will see that anything goes and I really don't mind if you don't.

Spartacus

MemberOvomorphJul-10-2012 6:42 PM
actually he did not need to hit the flute when he triggered the Jockeys Running in the tunnel, he must of done something while we were looking at his back in that scene...amazing discovery IMO. never even occurred to me but has to be now...no...? He had to have done something to trigger the playback in the Tunnel no?

My first post, this might be a stretch, but the holograms sound a lot like Morphic Resonance, the idea that memories are not necessarily stored in cells in the brain but out there in 3D space, somewhat like radio waves. A person who believes he was someone else in a previous life is just tuning into a Memory Field that has a similar resonance or frequency. There's a scene in A.I. When the advanced robots show up and mention something about information fields just before allowing David a visit with his Mommy, or facsimile thereof.

"....Holographic "Resonance Memories" of the Space Jockey's Past Physical Actions On Board .." Why was there so few of the scenes holographic scenes presented? And why that particular sequence leading up the headless Engineer? Selected by David? Someone else? .... Someone (NCIS's Jethro I think) said there is no such thing as 'coincidence' and kept the investigative team digging for facts.. Sort of what we do here,,,but at a distance of a few lightyears..

@Batty Loved your first post man !!! I mentioned A.I. and that part of it and it is so refreshing to see someone else noticed it as well. Welcome by the way! Great Post.

Sorry, I'm just trippin' on David8 in his bigboy seat pressing his marshmallow buttons and blowing access codas on his little Monaulos or flute. What a genius moment that was, like a happy kid in a toy shop.

"..Holographic MEMORY Resonance." Yes.. I enjoyed the movie scenes with"Holographic MEMORY Resonance" very effective in the way it was presented.. While watching a CSI episode they have been doing some think this when trying to reconstruct a crime..... So the I guess I have seen something like this in other entertainment media. Now If there was way to make our memories perform as they did in the movie,,that would get my attention.

Im wondering if the holograms were a message waiting to be triggered-a bit like the pictures in the caves on Earth-maybe a trap or for some other purpose- the running SJ holograms lead us towards the urns and maybe the star map hologram triggered the in stassis sleeping SJ . It just seems weird that only certain holograms appeared at certain times ...when David was trying to unlock things
