MemberOvomorphJul-14-2012 4:28 AMSorry, guys, I'm such a newb to the information game, WEYLAND INDUSTRIES website has already put forward the notion that it's a military company AND has faster-than-light travel.
HOLOTAB FEATURES
Constructed of transparent polymer composite with a graphene core.
Break-resistant up to 3000megapascals.
Can project its data content onto any surface.
Its sensors receive, process and send data streams at FTT (Faster-Than-Thought) speeds, roughly 37 GHz, from anywhere in the planetary range.
Used for military strategic planning to send orders to and from any soldier stationed anywhere within planetary range.
Also used to calculate FTL navigational coordinates on Heliades vessels.
Scientists can scan and collect data with HoloTab’s built-in Spectrawave function.
For personal use, HoloTab allows citizens to program all household systems and appliances remotely while away from home.
HoloTab can access the global knowledge center and display information in crystal clear holography.
it doesn't say HOW MANY TIMES faster than light but 100 light years per year is extremely fast for the colonisation of distant corporate worlds.

Using 100 Light years/per year..would make the actions shown in the movie,,200 light years away from Earth...
And at that distance, stil there would be common threads.connecting everything in our universe..
Sort of makes 'String Theory relevant..

I love string theory
Alcubierre Drive - so cool!
why move yourself when you can alter the geometry of space ;)

suggests to me a sort of Ix-ian FOLDING OF SPACE to get the job done REAL QUICK... or they could be REGENERATING (ala Star Trek transporter) the dna thousands of light years in the distance via 'advanced quantum coupling' or building block construction.
It's something, certainly no mention of WORMHOLES on the Weyland site, yet.

it would definitely mean FTL travel
and its in physics talk today :)

oh dear, "The fabric of space has moved faster than light before, says Cleaver, right after the Big Bang, when the universe expanded faster than the speed of light."
LOL-a-lot, at the creationary Big Bangists.

I'm not a religious type, and not 'into' Creationism i.e. God planting fossil heads to fool maknkind, "So, we counted up all the ages of the people in the Bible, since Adam, ten thousand years."
But the BIG BANG theorists clearly WANT or NEED there to have been a Universal Creation moment (they point to remnant background radiation as 'evidence' for God's sneeze), hence 'great name'.

MemberOvomorphJul-17-2012 11:39 AMWeyland-Yutani is a megacorporation from the Aliens franchise not a military company. They have contracts under the military. In fact in Alien part 4 the company is described as a Conglomerate.

And when Corp. start absorbing companies,,many of these accuired companies are on the cutting edge of technology...just then sort of thing to find a way to travel faster than light..
With or with out Military invoilveent,,the technology needed to span the Universe.is being uncovered..created .. as I write this note..
Now I really would like to see storyline set in 2012..showing the very beginnings of this growing technology.and hints that it exists now.

MemberOvomorphJul-18-2012 1:43 PMPrecursors,
oh, poor, sweet, innocent individual ALL CORPORATE WAR ORGANISATIONS bleed money out of You The People via pointless wars for (eventual) global asset management.
COMMERCE IS WAR.
BANKING IS WAR.
COUNTRIES IS WAR.
Plus, it's not even me saying this, here's a quote from their own page:
Used for military strategic planning to send orders to and from any soldier stationed anywhere within planetary range. like on their OWN WEBSITE (and yeah, I understand the 'it's only a film' game we're all participating in) the military has ALWAYS colluded with private interest corporations, it's just that now (and in the future) there's probably only one or two real companies in THE UNIVERSE.
So, who's the enemy?
