MemberOvomorphJul-16-2012 12:11 AMI know, I know, there's a million other theories out there, and I've contributed about half of them :P
But here is another one that I'm not sure if anybody has touched upon.
Put it this way, in this futuristic universe that Ridley Scott has created, androids play a big role do they not?
And what are the androids besides an upgraded version of ourselves, that we (the human characters in the movies) can't seem to come to an understanding of, correct?
And throughout the timeline beginning at Prometheus, Alien, Aliens, Alien 3, and Alien Resurrection, we keep upgrading them and correcting their faults right? And they keep becoming smarter, and more advanced, with less and less "bugs" as we go along.
And even in Alien Resurrection the android "Annalee Call" or just plain "Call" is in fact an android created BY androids!
So let me get to my point because it's late, and I'm not trying to cover every single aspect of this because it's already going to be viewed as a wild theory.
So on that note I'll get to my theory:
What if - the Engineers aren't exactly SUPERIOR to us?
Again put it this way, We are humans and we have certain "traits" that we consider important to classify us as human, or classify us as different from any living being that we know of on Earth.
That one big trait that we consider the end all be all of humanity would be a SOUL.
So if we created the androids who we greatly consider to not have souls, but they are super-smart and efficient. So we are both different from each other but we have certain things that neither of us will ever understand about each other.
To put it more simply:
- We have a "soul" that the androids can never come to understand,.
BUT
- The androids are supercomputers, who absorb every ounce of information, and become literally walking talking learning computers. They become humans, but all with great minds, that we can never come to understand because any human, who could have the capability of an android, plus the existence of a "soul" would be considered a crazy person.
Do we all not look at the super smart people on Earth that have existed before us and exist with us, as mostly "crazy", just because we can't understand them? Even if we admire them, there are so many things we can't understand about them, that deep down we are jealous, and it kind of plants a little seed of hatred in us wether we want to admit it or not.
Remember back in school, when all the smart people in class, would answer a question right away, or seem to breeze through everything without any trouble at all?
We would all become jealous, or cast them away as being different, all due to the fact that we just couldn't understand them, even if we kind of knew they would grow up to be a great impact on society.
Back to my point now:
What if the Engineers, created us, but weren't exactly "smarter" than us?
What would better explain the fact that they seemingly wiped themselves out with their own creation "the black goo"?
Okay, I can hear your arguments already. Most of you are more than likely saying, "yeah but how where they able to travel to our planet, and their own planet with ease, thousand and thousands of years before us?"
Well........simply because they have been around longer. Supposedly they created humans, which would mean they discovered technology millions of years ago to do such a thing. That does not mean they're smarter, they just had a millions and millions of years head start which would be a big deal.
I hope everybody gets my point and thinks of this as a withstanding theory.
Don't let the observation that they created us, and have seemingly superior technology, fool you to think that they aren't the "humans" to us being the "androids" where something more advanced, more efficient, more able to learn from mistakes, didn't come out of them creating us. Making them envious of us, and how fast we where able to learn things they taught us, but maybe we just had something inside of us, that they just could not understand.
All in all I hope this theory makes sense but I'll try and sum it up one more time:
The Engineers, went through their own evolution over millions of years, but does that mean that they have the ability to be what we call "smarter" or "more advanced" than us?
It would just mean that they where around for a really really really really long time before they managed to figure out space travel, and how to create life after millions of years.
Then they come around and create us, and we advance rapidly compared to them, making them scared of us in a way, because they can't understand us. So they ultimately decide to shun us away, as we did in school to the smarter kids, but their plan was to destroy us, and in the end it didn't work out in their favor.
And we come along, and create the android, who we see as a beautiful advancement in technology, but none of us can truely understand, so we set ourselves apart from them, putting them down, perhaps trying to ultimately destroy them?
I'll just end it there because I'm tired and I have no idea whatsoever if I just made any sense. Haha, anyway enjoy my theory!!!
Hope to hear some positive reviews!!

MemberOvomorphJul-16-2012 12:36 AMI completely agree with all that you've written here, but the first real reaction came to me from this part of the text-
"because any human, who could have the capability of an android, plus the existence of a "soul" would be considered a crazy person."
I consider that some will say that some very intellectual individuals often seem to be crazy- because of exactly what you're pointing out here!! There are a lot of crazy people out there, but they are considered looney-tunes because most others cannot understand them in any way.
Also, I interpret that the word you're looking for is "experience". Yes, after so much more time in existence, an enormous amount of experience would be had.

MemberOvomorphJul-16-2012 12:54 AMI know all about tired. I work at night and live at night when I'm not working. Ask anything of me during the late morning, and I have the same response that sludge does...
So, in this context, PLEASE consider my following advise to be friendly constructive criticism:
A. Draft an outline next time.
1. Research definitions of words that convey what you're trying to say.
2. Make a list of your ideas or points, in order of importance- and emphasize & expand upon them in that order.
B. Construct your outline as if it were a resume.
1. Avoid repeating in order to make a point.
a. Provide examples or analogies as necessary to define & clarify the idea you're addressing...
I sincerely hope that this method will help wring out the tiredness.

MemberOvomorphJul-16-2012 2:39 AMonly problem I have with your thesis, THE HUMAN SOUL. No evidence for it was presented therein.
I like the idea that if/when we first meet an alien race 'something about us' will scare the shit out of them. It's hellish meeting other people, especially for aliens.

MemberOvomorphJul-16-2012 5:36 AM@FreePlanet but as the artifacts they found showed, they knew about us already?
So in that case then it's not much different from going to see an animal we've never seen before in person at a zoo?
