Including C4D working screen shots, WIP shots and sketchbook scans
[i]I was brought on board during the concept phase of Prometheus for UI concepts of a sequence of shots in the edit. The concepts below are of various ideas and thoughts to solve the human time capsule concept the client requested.
The idea of taking all of our human culture in its entirety and using it as a communication device with the alien race was the main objective.
Design, direction created for Prologue Films.
Some of the design processing concepts:
I like to try and sit for a few moments after reading a breif or getting informaiton from y clients to sit and digets. I imediatly pull out my sketchbook and start to pull the ideas from my mind and on to paper to come back to once I have purged my creative mind of all possible concepts and solutions. Once I get the ideas out I usually start to build rough comps over the film plates given to me by the client. Once I get a look and feel down that I am pleased with I go into illustrator and Photoshop and start laying out the general design and build from there.
This time around I messed around with the software Processing. I probably shouldn’t have (time consumer) but I got a bit lost in the act of creation and loved some of the results I got from moving numbers around and poking around to yield something new and interesting I haven’t seen before. That was my main intent with just trying something different and odd for a chance.
I got a lot of muse from the Radio Head music video - House of cards which was sited by the client to use as a reference for how the images would be shown in point cloud 3D data.
My main point of interest while designing this was to focus on an interesting way to convey mass amounts of information and offer the client a new example of how it could be viewed.
The idea of capturing the centuries of human development in to a visualized que that would look and feel immense was my main intent, it was a fun task none the less, especially since its for a sci fi director I love and how often does one get such chances in there creative life?!?
