Thanks for posting the link.
I note he mentions that the our Creators are thye Engineers,,I am still holding out for one more creative level above the Engineers..but there is no inkling of that in the interview.
He also says that the plot lines that connect up to 'Alien' are part of the original storyline..so there must be some threads on this site that are going to work in understanding all of the SJ questions..

"It's not arbitrary. [But] the movie has to speak for itself. I will say that the theory that is formed by Shaw by the end of the movie—that the black goo is some sort of weapon and it is headed towards earth and if it gets there the result is going to be terrible—[is] based on the information that she has in the movie, but that's not necessarily the correct deduction for her to make. The audience is privy to pieces of the story that Shaw is not."
Hmmmmmm....interesting.

"...We gave all the numbers, but didn't add them all up for you". Gosh, how I hate algebra!!!

@Indy John - no problem. Just glad to contribute to the discussion!
Kind of pokes a finger in the eye of the "plot-holes" proponents, doesn't it? Things were left intentionally vague on purpose. Also, it seems that Lindelof was instrumental in changing the direction of the franchise from a standard Alien movie into something completely new. Ridley Scott has taken credit for that as well, so now I'm not sure who's idea it was at this point...

I think a couple of numbers were upside down 6's were 9's and they left out a few more of them as well... lets hope they add up in the end :D !

well this is very confusing.
The only piece of info i can think shaw was not privy to that the audience were was the sacrifice scene at the start.
outside the movie we know about the crashed ship with egss from alien whos destination was not earth.

"..Ridley Scott has taken credit for that as well.."
To it is just like a Boss taking credit for something you suggested!!..
What is so wrong with having prequells leading up to Alien?
You know that is what movie goers are wanting..some connection and explanation.
I think that P2 will deliver the movie goods with clearer storylines .. action and a big closing all leading up to the final installment of the trilogy.

"..but that's not necessarily the correct deduction for her(Shaw) to make. ."
I think this is a big hint that Part 2 of Prometheus will be an eyeopener for the fans and charactors!
It does sort raise the point when(if not already) would P2 be made? I mean if there were 2 parts already in the can somebody somewhere,,would have leaked that..
This is the explosive age of the 'net right!!

ok so all i can think is that the black goo would be used to further evolve human beings..perhaps into space jockeys? but i guess if you didn't want to be a space jockey that would be terrible so i still don't know what lindelof is on about .

"I don't want to talk too specifically about what the black goop does"
i.e. he doesn't have a clue
"There was a NASA guy that came in a couple of times and spoke to Ridley and us about the theoretical realities of extraterrestrial life"
i.e. this would also explain why Lindelof works like a NASA employee:
Never
A
Straight
Answer
Ask nothing from no one. Demand nothing from no one. Expect nothing from no one.

What Dr Shaw didn't know that the audience knew only too well was that the script was written by Damian oh! Damon Lindelof.
@ David 1
Still chuckling at "NASA"! XD

"We clearly have answers for those questions ourselves that we did not present in the movie"
i.e. not clueless.

Just a minute! Mr Lindelof, TV and movie scriptwriter and producer, gives away a CLUE about a movie which has left literally millions of ardent fans bothered, bewildered and debating, to an … AUTO magazine! Why didn’t he give it to a MOVIE magazine? There are hundreds out there!
Don’t get me wrong, Practical Mechanics is a great publication and OK, I know it pays to advertise plus Henry Ford, when asked to clarify which advertising pays, gave the honest answer, “I don’t know,” but isn’t this a bit below the steering wheel? Yes, advertise your movie anywhere there are people who will see it or hear it because anyone is a potential customer, but please, leak clues where it would be most appreciated.
Let’s face it, if you’re a painter desperate for a particular colour to add to your palette, would you look in at a bakery? Or a shoe shop?
Or maybe I’m wrong. Maybe all’s fair in love, war, business and marketing?

I believe lindlof. I think all the mysteries have answers and RS/DL have exact answers on them (not revealed to us). Will RS direct the sequel ? If he doesn't will we have access to those answers ?
If not then prometheus was a ........ Please please please sir ridley direct the sequal so that then script writer will also know what the answers is.

".. Please please please sir ridley direct the sequal so that then script writer will also know what the answers is..."
Not only that story but the 3rd installment leading up to 'Aliens'
In fact I think I would rather have Ridley directed P3 than P2.especially if P2 will be higher on action...big screen friendly. Save Ridley's movie skills for an episode that really matters.
Nothing like a well dircted /written prequel to connect with Ripley and the gang..

"I believe lindlof. I think all the mysteries have answers and RS/DL have exact answers on them (not revealed to us)."
I'm not sure that's what Lindlof is trying to convey. He kind of hinted that the answers are there for the audience to figure out but that some of the primary characters like Shaw are not privy to all of the information so they are likely to draw false conclusions. Thus we cannot necessarily rely on what they say. Such as Shaw's possibly false belief that the Engineer is headed for Earth with weapons to do something terrible.
"I believe what I chose to believe."
