One of the many discussions on this site has been whether the engineers are maybe clones, which got me thinking ( a dangerous past-time for me at the best of times). If the engineers were clones would they need belly buttons ? Now having read this are you sure they have them, and have you checked just in case.

I don't know any clones... but why wouldn't they have bellybuttons?

david, i think he means they wouldn't have an umbillacal cord at birth, but the picture here shows one....

Susano: The question remains though. Why wouldn't they have umbilical cords? The Fetus must feed. They can grow inside a womb like natural clones do [i.e. Twins], but even if inside an artificial womb they would need to feed and the umbillicus is a natural way to feed a growing fetus without restraining it.

I don't understand how baby breathe in water. Pardon my shallow knowledge on this. If the baby breathes in the water then surely those sci-fi movies where they show people inside glass capsules with no mask on face could be possible, or maybe i am thinking too much.

Sky: Babys hold their breath if they are born inside water. They don't breath in water. Nature is wonderful. A bit more and we'd be all fish

Isn't it? so we actually give up our power of living inside liquid to breathe in air. I wonder how cloned baby gets born. maybe using surrogate or purely in artificial womb? as human cloning is banned due to religious reasons, chances of long life for humans is close to dead.

@Sky; A baby’s first breath happens at birth when he begins to cry. While in the womb, his lungs are filled with fluid and are not involved in supplying oxygen to his body. So yeah babies do breathe in the fluids. They just get the oxygen from the mother's umbilical cord.

Thanks Svanya. That means the water is responsible for the child's growth as it is source oxygen and other variable so if the water gets low then woman needs to be operated in that case, hope I am right?

Sky: How can one tell that artificial human cloning hasn't been done already?

It is done but there is ban to human cloning. I am sure privately that is likely to be going on but that will never come out unless public gets matured.

It's not exactly water though, the fluid is a bit more nutritious and complex than water..............

On the subject of Navels, I have seen such a point of gestation contact in so many places in sci-fi film and read that in quite a few sci-fi books... By its very function it could be placed anywhere... and maybe the navels on the Eginneers (not that more than 1 was witnessed so it might be a "synbolic" growth to mark the occassion of starting life somewhere), might be ceremonial or just the way they roll.

@Sky; The fluid does not contain oxygen. I said the baby gets it's oxygen from the mother's umbilical cord. :)
