First of all I’m a Brit. Next. I know there are other Brits on this site. As us Brits know there has been a some difference of opinion amongst the nation, as to whether the London Olympics, ( I emphasize the London bit, cos I’m one of them Northern Coronation Street types who can still get hold of real ale.) is worth the money spent. So someone has decided to put Danny Boyle in charge of the show. Must admit there were some bits I liked and some I did’nt. Having Pretty Vacant by the Sex Pistols as part of the opening ceremony played in front of the Queen was fxxxin ‘A’. Just wish that a real institution like Motorhead had been included. Ok, so things don’t always go as we want. Let’s face it, it would appear that someone will be fired for putting up the wrong flags during ceremonies, but hey, that’s just a bad Korea choice. So to my main point. Could Ridley Scott have done a better job that Danny Boyle, and would the swimming events be the same with a Xeno in the water or what?

Well i to am a Brit and i thought the olympics was a complete farce it was a poorly conceived monty python sketch meets punch and judy, dipped in treacle, really it was awful not to mention the sponsers are the worst health conscious corporate companys imaginable from cadburys chocolate, to coca cola, and macdonalds, fine if you want to be a morbidly obese couch potatoe. The whole thing was a bad pantomine of typical British pomp, it was embarassing and not a patch or remotely close to the incredible triumph of bejings opening ceromony. Lets face it its an elitist event full of middle class spectators and wealthy corporate officials, Great britain is the richest third world country in europe which is lead by elitist super rich buffoons from public school backgrounds who have never done a days work in their lifes, a cesspit for the poor and a deluded paradise for the rich . Honestrly i thought it was a cringe worthy embarrasing mess of british cliched pomp, and a rosy eyed view of a pretty appalling British history which conveniently left out all the terrible conditions and dickension attitudes we still suffer today not to mention slavery and imperialism, empire, and suffering.

@ Alteredstate Gotta admit there were frequent times while watching it when I was thinking 'Are we having a laugh or what ?' At the end of the day, it is what it is. Corporate propaganda aimed at generating money for London, and sod the rest of the country. There has also been little mentioned about those who have been forced out of their homes to make way for the corporate accommodation. They don't like advertising those facts too often. http://youtu.be/ZZ-PTD0eYF8 That aside, one of my reasons for posting this thread, was because when you consider the size and scale of the sets for Prometheus and compare them against the Olympic ceremony set, also what was achieved in a live production in the Olympic ceremony, it got me wondering whether Ridley was able to shoot a good portion of footage for Paradise. There has certainly been a lot of forward planning in both cases.

They only included The pistols and The Specials because it had been sucked back into shystem, pigeon-holed and managed into a sales package that THEY control. To be honest the whole Punk thing was the atithesis of making money.... All in all Lemmy was surely missed and any Punk that wants England to whack their kind(or music) on a poster to make money for another is living in delusion! It was a waste of Boyle's abillitty and I only enjoyed that the letters NHS were inescapable by Cameron for a good few seconds!

Whoever brings something better on the table should stay. I doubt if ridley scott is going to bring anything new.
Uncertainty is the only certainty there is, and knowing how to live with insecurity is the only security.
