MemberOvomorphJul-20-2012 11:24 PMThe Prometheus movie really reminded me of the 1999 "Aliens: Apocalypse/Destroying Angels" comic book from Dark Horse Comics. Some elements of this comic book's storyline go as follows: scientists/explorers discover one of the Engineers' ships/structures with eggs inside; they also find the dead bodies of some Engineers; there is debate about science, religion and faith; they discover/question the grand purpose of the Aliens and their creators (Engineers/Space Jockeys) in the cosmos; there is an android that kinda reminds me of David; they discover a lone Engineer in hibernation; this Engineer gets impregnated by a facehugger; the resulting chestburster/creature is of immense size and has a different look (it reminded me of Prometheus' Deacon or Deacon Queen?); etc...
Any of this ring a bell? wink wink ;)
Maybe some Prometheus writers/scriptors based part of their material for the film on this particular comic book? There is something uncanny about the ressemblances.
I might write more about this some other time or I'll try to find some pics. Have a good weekend Xeno fans!

excellent find - love your avatar btw.
AND THE OWL on that cover brings home the right-to-left flight of the New World Order owl visuals Ridley Scott promoted in his infamous "is it real?" Blade Runner scene where Deckart meets Rachel for the first time for her VK-test.

MemberOvomorphJul-21-2012 2:24 AM@FreePlanet nice link and LOL on the other hand the OWL remind me of the creepy owl of the Fourth Kind

In this film an owl-like creatures burst into the rooms to abduct people and then do "dark experiments" with them inside the ship.

The film bases its argument on the Sumerian and Babylonian mythology of the Anunnaki...

that last image (inspired by the Ancient Egyptian goddess Nekhbet) is the cheapest alien shot of all.
Bit weak, visually, too.

@FreePlanet,
Ancient Egyptian goddess Nekhbet? but this leads us to the wings of Weyland, then maybe we're not so far from the truth :p

It is quite possible that the original logo was inspired by many other sources but no doubt we have a strong candidate here...

Thanks for posting this link...It is a new world I have never seen.
But the elements in this comic book series do parallel the Prometheus storyline..but that even disturb;s me..as I have not come across this reference before,,
I hope the 'Prometheus' writers don't pull a GeorgeHarrison ,,with "subconsciously" copied.." defense

MemberOvomorphJul-21-2012 11:33 AMHere's a look at the giant xeno born from the Space Jockey in those comics:

For size reference, look how tiny the regular xeno is on its back!
I read this awhile back, but if I recall correctly, it's the android that causes the remaining Jockey to become impregnated. I also recall how in this story, the search/rescue team is told of how the xenos have been used as bio-weapons to wipe out populations on Earth in the past, and have been regular visitors to our planet since the dawn of time. Pretty similar ideas to Prometheus...

MemberOvomorphJul-21-2012 11:34 AMIt mirrors the annunaki ligigi stories very good. If u think about it and actually read it. There is a few threads on the annunaki theory, and it's pretty cool how close it is

MemberOvomorphJul-21-2012 5:51 PM@Spacejockey, what do you mean by stories, there is any sumerian story site where we can read about it?

MemberOvomorphJul-22-2012 12:38 AMThanks for the comments and for finding the pics so swiftly.
@peloquin: You are totally right! It is the android who gets the lone Engineer impregnated. A wink at Prometheus is that this good/evil android gets his head torn apart just like the David 8 android ;) And you are right about the Aliens/Xenos; the story states that they are great balancing agents possibly sent by God, agents responsible for waves of extinction on a cosmic scale that started billions of years ago...They even refer to them as "the wrath of God".
The Engineers/Space Jockeys dominated the galaxy at some point, so there had to be a counterforce to restore balance, hence the Xenos (a theory explained by one of the characters in the story)...We basically get a small glimpse at what might be a bigger picture.
What's different from Prometheus though is that the Engineers are really refered to as Giants...and that's really what they are in this book; there are no beautiful white-faced muscle men in biomechanical suits, just real giants. Take a look:

MemberOvomorphJul-22-2012 2:55 PM@FreePlanet: Thank you for the comment & Thank you for the "Owl" link (I've always loved these birds / I have a few books on them at home). Did you write the book which your link leads us to?
The owl in "Aliens:Apocalypse" is a Great Grey Owl (a female named Wicket). In the story, she symbolizes how creatures adapt to survive; how they can even adapt to Alien attacks and be stronger than the Xenos (even when chances of survival are zero). She acts as a guide and a protector against the Aliens (she hates them in a way, like they were sworn enemies....it's funny to see how she just wants to attack the Aliens, kinda like an instinct!!)

MemberOvomorphJul-22-2012 4:14 PM@peloquin once again: I just remembered that the Alien born from the Space Jockey is referred to as the Destroyer of Destroyers, killing not only humans but all the other "regular", smaller Aliens as well.

I write non-mainstream sci-fi-horror-surrealism - Silverthought Press published my two novels Planet of the Owls and Bukkakeworld in 2008. Since then, short novels Yoroppa and View From a Stolen Window came out in 2011. Just finished my 80,000 words FREE PLANET novel, it's with an agent as I type.

I've never looked at the Aliens comics but it seems like there's plenty of SPACE JOCKEY CANON already established, wonder why they went with the short blue weightlifters?

MemberOvomorphJul-24-2012 12:14 PMFP,
Thanks for the info. Your "owl" book quite intrigues me!
As for the Space Jockeys, I think that Ridley Scott and the other "artisans" of Prometheus wanted to go with with their own original take and ideas for the Space Jockeys, ideas that may have been put on the table years before at the time of the making of the first "Alien" movie.
