MemberOvomorphJul-21-2012 5:25 AMthere was a classic horror moment in the 1991 film SIlence of the Lambs, where "Multiple Miggs" suggests in graphic verbal terms how he knows when Agent Starling is visiting -- maybe the uber-sexualised long-headed tail rapist in Alien finds his luncheon meat in the same nasal fashion?

MemberOvomorphJul-21-2012 6:18 AMIt has been suggested that the alien could have eyes behind his dome and that the whole head could work as a eye.
Or it has sonars, maybe...
It is interesting that the first design of the alien had eyes, actually, it's face looked a lot like a human skull. Giger, however, decided to improve that, he feelt that it would have been scarier if we didn't know where was the alien looking.
Have you heard of phoenix asteroids?
They glow in every color of the rainbow...they travel endlessly through space...

MemberOvomorphJul-21-2012 9:06 AMNot being familiar will all of the 'Alien' related movies has someone performed a XENO autopsy?
Maybe they have all of the 'seeing' methods suggested on this thread and advanced brain to sort them out.
I would suggest the easiest method: They do have eyes...but covered over with a transparant film/skin..and they take in all of the light sources .//all frequencies.. including our limited vision skills..
It would be hard to believe a superior race would be lacking eyesight..(in our way of seeing)

MemberOvomorphJul-21-2012 6:44 AMSome idea I read somewhere suggested with the alien having a long head it would have hearing all along it's length (which might explain the ridges) giving it quadrophonic and range finding hearing.

MemberOvomorphJul-21-2012 6:54 AMMaybe the Aliens have Ampulla of Lorenzini as sharks to detect electrical fields. On the other hand maybe they are blind and use their tongues, such as snakes, to smell their victims or use echolocation just like as the cetaceans.

MemberOvomorphJul-21-2012 9:19 AMaliens-++-canon-wise, how do the pursuing Fachuggers zone in on their intended facial orifice?

MemberOvomorphJul-21-2012 10:03 AMAlthough not necessarily canon, in both the comics and avp2(game), it is stated that they use pharemones.
Not knowing for sure make the Alien a lot more Alien, don't you think? No eyes is just weird!
ALL generalizations are WRONG!

MemberOvomorphJul-21-2012 10:17 AMThe way the alien queen communicates with the warrior cast and the eggs in the end of Aliens, suggest to me some form of telepathic link. I don't know how an alien sense that none of use could experience, would actually work, but a form of telepathic clairvoyance would explain why they can locate humans through walls without any external sensory input.

MemberOvomorphJul-21-2012 10:39 AMI hope that there is an understandable explanation on how the 'Alien(XENO) sees.
Maybe it is our definition of 'see'.that is confusing..We see to get around(and survive)..and when those of limited..or no eyesight. rely on special glasses..guide dogs,,,or an aide to prevent disasters.
What senses do the aliens in 'Prometheus' use to find hosts.? It may not make any difference because they seem like very adaptable creatures/beings..
Maybe they have '6th sense'??

MemberOvomorphJul-21-2012 12:11 PMPerhaps the Aleins see through a "one way mirror" of sorts, that is their skull??

MemberOvomorphJul-22-2012 3:10 AMDavid 1,
wise words my friend.
I was thinking maybe the Alien IS ALREADY IN YOUR HEAD and just finds the body that goes with it.

MemberOvomorphJul-22-2012 4:37 AMwith a head the size the alien has. maybe there is a wide range of sensory "inputs" .

Veteran MemberMemberOvomorphJul-22-2012 10:38 PMPerhaps It's head emits a high psychic frequency that causes fear and terror....that's what it see's but mostly it can smell the bacon that was recently eaten by the fodder
