MemberOvomorphDec-16-2012 9:27 AMnieztche..... thus spake zarathustra..... it gives you a flavour of Weylands attitude to empathy, he seems imho to be reassuring himself that what he is doing/intending to do is right, that the results justify the questionable methods, he then imho seems to gaining the consent or approval from his audience (albeit unwittingly) ... a bit like david asking holloway how far he'd go yadah yadah because he knows that to acheive his goals he'll do awful things and wants to be able to turn around and say well its what you all signed up for more or less! thats my interperetation anyway

MemberOvomorphDec-16-2012 9:37 AM"i am a law only for my kind, not for all"..... could be taken to mean a few things but in the context of nietzches work i beleive it means (to him) that if you dont agree (with his grand plan/intentions) then you dont understand and you dont matter. He's nervous he anticipates that he will meet with objection hence the whiskey and the mantra! its the last point at which anyone could have stopped his rise to power and he sensed it......

MemberOvomorphDec-16-2012 4:37 PMweyland see himself as the overman. Not good or evil, just does what he see as necessary.

MemberFacehuggerDec-17-2012 2:04 PMJust the perfect amout of Aryan arrogance in that quote to justify anything Weyland wants to do!

MemberOvomorphDec-18-2012 12:00 AMIt is the core expression of Nietzian philosophy distilled down to one basic statement. Nietzsche believed that he was above all man-made laws and was a law unto himself. But thanks Pulse for identifying that quote. I wondered what he was saying and where it came from. Totally makes sense now.

MemberOvomorphDec-20-2012 8:39 AMFor some historical context, versions of that idea in the Zarathustra line are much older than Nietzsche.
"One law for the lion and the ox is oppression" (William Blake, in "The Marriage of Heaven and Hell")
A similar sentiment was present in Roman times, but I forgot the quote and its source. Maybe someone else can help.
And, as nostromo001 said, it's about how the superman chooses not to be bound by the laws made by the feeble to disguise their feebleness. There is no good or evil. There is only power. Wait, was that Palpatine :P
The whole point of this is lost if you keep it a secret.
