MemberOvomorphJul-27-2012 3:11 PMYes I agree. I have always been of the idea that the Engineers enemies are the Space Jockeys. What I mean is that the original Space Jockey from Alien is what it is, an Elephantine species that deems the Engineers as there enemies. I know that most of you disagree with my theory. But its just a theory.

MemberOvomorphJul-27-2012 3:54 PMMy understanding is the engineers are the space jockeys they simply could'nt handle the extremely dangerous cargo and were awaken prematurely from hybernation they were pissed we'll he was..................and new of our tinkering with the enclosed lifeforms (URN's)

MemberOvomorphJul-27-2012 4:47 PMEngineers having an enemy would be interesting and a good reason for them to be creating dangerous bioweapons. Perhaps then, they created us just to be cannon fodder or...

MemberOvomorphJul-28-2012 6:15 AMHey Rubirosa, love your theory. I definitely believe it. It's the same as mine since finding out the Engineers are basically ancient aliens in suits right now and seeing things like how they worship the suits by placing them as statues. In my theory they stole their technology from the true gods... but now worship themselves and an ancient king or head as well...
They inherited their technology and the goo as a gift from the Elders (their kings) at some point, but they abused their gift, took their science too far by weaponizing the fire and had to be wiped off the Earth by the true gods and the other Elders. As they escaped they stole the fire for good and weaponized it further; while they tried to spread it to the early humans which developed alongside the Earth engineers.
It's my belief that was the Atlantean colony being set up with their reproduction method at the start of the movie. And that the first humans were created, as a byproduct, in the opening scene.
This was how the greater Empire seeded the worlds they'd already set up to be fertile gardens with new colonies.
A great king died and they became more milatiristic. the mostly good ones remained on the Earth. But were punished again and again, and left chained to this rock, as the true gods returned again and again to plague the earth with monsters, ice ages and floods to wipe out their influence and allow the humans to flourish.
Sparing humanity and wiping out the Atlanteans/Engineers on the Earth.
Their enemies destroyed their Paradise colony which had rebelled against the greater Empire and they killed the Atlantean/Engineer kings and Elders who tried to help humanity. However, humans remained in the garden and trusted the snake who became king, who wanted to use the fire to kill our true creator, but only wanted to give us knowledge to lead us into a war against the heavens alongside them.
Then they stripped the true gods of most of their power and drove them away from Earth towards the Orion system, even without our help.
Inevitably the Engineers left around the earth all died off or joined the rest who now wanted to kill our true creators with the bioweapon.
But they're jealous because the true creators are still out there, and we weren't punished as severely as they were when their Paradise/Atlantis/the Great Atlantean king/head was lost and the body disintegrated. Now they emulate the gods by wearing their technology and wanting to punish us (also could use us as a step in the bio-weapon in their war). And they wanted to punish us at a time we were forming a massive empire like the one they are fighting against, and we were displaying some of the traits they were punished for when Atlantis sank back into the ocean.
Only to be reborn in myth, trickling into David's head through what he learned about each of the collection of myths from all the sources he read to learn their language.
He knows about other possible groups/tribes/kingdoms, and spent a great deal of time learning about them... and has some things figured out through his analysis of the myths.
And when he references Lawrence of Arabia with "big things have small beginnings" he definitely means that in many, many ways and has a huge plan in mind.
Knows about the enemies of the Engineers through their culture which trickled into the myths, and the hieroglyphs he read...
The true gods Shaw is asking about when she asks if they're us who created the Engineers then?
As you can see it ties into my theory about the Engineers actually being the Atlanteans from the Greek myths which I can pretty much confirm is a major theme in Paradise.
Paradise=the Atlantean kingdom/their colonies on other worlds
And also sort of represents the garden of Eden and forbidden knowledge.
The Atlanteans created strange hybrid monsters and fish-people and were banished from the Earth as their paradise was plagued and flooded and their kings killed, then the new one Exiled.
The kingdom then disintegrated into the ocean and left no traces of civilization after the lood/ice age and millions of years. Some survived by remaining around the earth and periodically visiting to teach us where they went to make war with the true gods.

MemberOvomorphJul-28-2012 2:37 PMI agree with you 100% @Mala'kak. Looking at the Engineer in Prometheous made me look down upon him. I will tell you why. His reaction to David's question was barbaric and to human. Instead of responding in a civilized manner he turned to pure violence. His reaction was not wise at all. I do not think our so called creators would react in that sort of fashion. He lowered himself to human level, because he and his kind are not our creators, at least when we speak about Ridleys universe. I think that a true godly species would of conversed with David, and question all of the humans for wanting immortality in the first place. No the Engineer we saw in Prometheous is just another creation like ourselves of the Elephantine race. It also fits well with the Lovecraftian world of science-fiction horror that Lovecraft created, and Giger brought to the screen in Alien. Do you really think that a macbre improviser like Giger would settle on a humanoid like the Engineer in Prometheous as our creator. Remember he designed the first Xenomorph. Would not the creators of the Xenomorph be as bizzare as there creation. The Engineer in Prometheous is awesome, but I think that the something more bizarre like the original Space Jockey fits the bill as being the creators of the Xenomorphs, the Engineers and the human race. In the lovecraft story the mountains of madness Lovecraft talks about the Elder ones who came to earth millions of years ago, in the process of building there new empire they created another race called the shoggoths to do the heavy lifting. But in doing so they also ceeated the first semions who later developed into the human race. The shoggoths later turned on the elder ones and killed them off. This sounds very familiar to me. My conclusion is that the Engineers are the Shoggoths, and the Elephantine race (original space jockey) are the elder ones. Its just a theory folks.

MemberOvomorphAug-03-2012 9:38 AMThe enemy of the Mala'kak (aka Engineers) must be an advanced sentient race, either equel in intelligence or in power or both, probably humanoid in shape and form, and originally different. i made a tread called "Do the Engineers have an Empire" and i think most of you read it, explained what if the Engineers have an age old enemy or many advisory that wage make conflict at each other to gain dominance over a certain part of the galaxy, dont know if whoever this poweful race is, that confront the Godlike immortal race called the Engineers. but just a hypothesis, just have to wait for "Paradise" movie if there going to explain?

Have you read some religions and particularly those of the Bible and Koran?
Its pages are not all about loving and goodness, you should read what those books God thinks about the fall of man as far as our sin and how he intends to punish us.
The words of the Abrahamic God in relation to punishment for mankind makes the Engineers actions seem not so savage after all.
We do not the the true motives of the Engineer, its all up for speculation. some of the Production Staff of Prometheus so people like Lindelof and Ridley Scott etc did suggest that what David had said had upset the Engineer.
You see before that he seemed intrigued with us especially Shaw.
The Engineer only got angry after Weyland got one of his Mercs to knock Shaw down, then i guess after David then told him what Weyland may have wanted it upset the Engineer.
You see here is the question, why did that Engineer not carry on his mission to destroy Earth? And why did he survive?
Maybe he sabotaged the mission thus saved us? Who knows.
But i imagine when he was awoken to see that Mankind had found his outpost i think that may have surprised him (i doubt he knew at that point that we had tampered with the Urns etc.).
So he wakes up then seems intrigued a little but then he spots Weyland as the dominant leader shouting orders and must notice that Weyland gets his Merc to knock down Shaw so she cant ask questions, then he would see Weyland ask David something. Then David asks maybe what Weyland did.
The Engineer would see that Weyland had no care for Shaw or the others and only for himself and only to prolong his life as his days was numbered.
I am sure the way Weyland treated his fellow Humans and his Greed for wanting to be Immortal would upset the Engineer (as i am sure if you asked the same or behaved the same in front of God he would be upset likewise).
Then as soon as the Engineer then realized David was a creation made by the Engineers creations, that could have been the final straw.
The Engineer would have noticed these at this point.
1) Mankind is selfish and greedy
2) Mankind is barbaric to each other.
3) Mankind has created its own intelligent life in their own image (David)
4) Mankind have the ability to travel to their out post and indeed the stars.
5) That the above means they could discover and use the secrets of the Engineers and the Black Goo etc for their own means/agenda.
The above simply can not be allowed to happen and thus the Engineer decides to start the Mission to wipe out life on Earth that his brothers had attempted 2000 years or so ago.
Thats my two cents anyway.

MemberDeaconAug-04-2012 5:35 AMAs far as the Engineer Race.
Yes prior to Prometheus Ridley had hinted that the Space Jockey was a race that was maybe at War with another species and that its ship was a Bomber carrying a Cargo of Bio Weapon Eggs.
Ridley never said who they was at War with, it could be themselves or another Race we never found out.
Fast Forwards to Prometheus and we have a Engineer who seems to have Sacrificed himself to break down his DNA so that it can be used as the building blocks to create life on Earth.
We never find out why this was done.
Clues from the Ancient Cultures would appear (in context of Prometheus) that after our creation the Engineers (well some) had visited us in the past and may have helped us to evolve and teach us things.
But at some point in time they stopped visiting us with no reasons why.
When the crew of Prometheus land on LV 223 they find a installation that potentially is some storage and testing facility of maybe Bio Weapons (we dont know if thats the only use for the Urns).
Through the movie we find out that they had in the past wanted to set out to Earth with a cargo that would wipe out life on Earth but we dont know why.
Apart from David said sometimes to create you have to destroy. which could that mean they intended to create something new from us who knows. after all this could be Davids assumption.
The Engineers on LV 223 had a mishap and something went wrong and apparently killed them all off aside from one. The date of their downfall is about 2000 years ago and so we can assume that 2000 years ago they wanted to set off with their ships to wipe out life on Earth.
Now Ridley had said that the Space Jockey in alien was a Engineer and not another race, the Space Jockey suits we see hanging up may not be statues but Space suits hung on the walls like Prometheus had for the crew in its halls.
Ridley had said that this race had played a part in our creation but then after a period of time wanted to wipe us out. He went further to tease that maybe this was because of something we did to one of their embassies sent down to sort us out and advice us of our barbaric wrong doings. He teased and said we crucified him.
This is Ridley teasing that maybe Jesus was a Engineer or a Hybrid being created and sent down on behalf of the Engineer race and after we killed him, that was the last straw and the Engineers decided we needed to be punished for good.
Now we have to take into account the Elder Engineers they was in the movie but taken out, because if feel Ridley wants to save them for Prometheus 2.
They seem old and frail compared to the Engineers, maybe they are just older Engineers or maybe they created Engineers in their image to perform labor intensive or military tasks for them. I look at the Engineers as being the Gardeners and Care Takers created by the Elders.
So as of Prometheus we do not know who the Engineer/Elder Race was at War with if anyone and the purpose and target for the Xeno Eggs in Alien.
We only know they are a powerful Race who are highly advanced and posses technology and chemicals that can create, modify or even destroy life. And that the Elders had sent down a Engineer to be sacrificed to create Mankind. We dont know yet if we was a accident who knows.
It appears that these Elders or Engineers had visited us through History until one point we had done something to upset them, and it is then that they had decided to wipe us out via a Bio Weapon created or stored and tested on the LV 223 out post.
That leaves a lot of potential for Prometheus 2 as the Production Staff had said that Mankind and Earth was one of many worlds in the Galaxy the Engineers had seeded with life in their image, and that LV223 was a research and testing out post. And thus not their Home World.
Bring on Prometheus 2 for answers i say ;)

this does make alot of sense, the engineer acted in such a manner because he realised what his creation had become, that they treat each other badly and think they can come here asking whatever they want.

MemberDeaconAug-05-2012 3:48 PMAgreed i cant help but feel that the last Engineer had something to do with why the earlier mission to Earth failed.
Would he not have carried on with the Mission years earlier, if his intentions was the same.
And would he not have attacked the crew right away after waking up from his sleep.
I cant help but think this Engineer felt that mankind should not had been punished for what ever the other Engineers deemed that we had done so bad.
But he changed his mind after he realized not only was mankind still barbaric and selfish we now also had the ability to reach LV 223 which means should the Engineer die, then mankind would get its hands on and potentially misuse the Black Goo.
Which is a technology that mankind simply can not be allowed to have, and as the last Engineer the only way to assure that we would never get our hands on it and other secrets of LV 223 would be to wipe us out.
Once we see and translate the full David and Engineer scene we would know more as apparently the conversation was a two way one and the Engineer spoke to David so the scene was cut and edited.
Also the Sacrificial scene was also edited and cut as it originally had Elder Engineers and a conversation between the Elder and Sacrificial Engineer.
Seeing and translating both extended full scenes would give us a lot of answers. Thats if Ridley will ever release the full scenes.

MemberOvomorphAug-05-2012 9:54 PMwhat if the engineers on LV-223 was actually attacked by the enemy (an unknown race at war with the engineers)which sabotage the base by releasing the black goo on the engineers as a taste of their own medicine, since both advanced races are at war with each other would make sense. don't know that this unknown race even knew that humans exist.

MemberDeaconAug-06-2012 7:29 AMWell one of the interesting ideas around was that mankind was created purely as incubators for the Xeno Bio Weapon, i mean if the Xeno was the Engineers favored and perfect Weapon, we all know that a Xeno can only arrive from the Face Huggers implanting a Embryo into a Organism.
Which means the Eggs would be a weapon deployment...
the plot hole is why need mankind as the only reason to use us would be to produce Xenos, then that leaves the Engineers with the tricky predicament of collecting and transporting Xenos to the target destination.
David did say in order to create one must sometimes destroy and this does hint that maybe yes mankind was going to be changed by the Black Stuff in the Urns.
Then again Ridley hinted that the reasons for the Engineers wanting to wipe us out was purely down to something we did to one of their emissaries down to Earth and we crucified him.

MemberOvomorphJan-21-2013 3:14 PMSo you see a three way power struggle with somehow the lowly humans being able to hold their own with superior species.. I like where this heading. The Engineers have enemies from the limited views of their life we can see. They are couched in secrecy, react violentl;y to their encounter with earthinlings and are clearly running from a threat based on the holograms.
Since we already know two of the players then P2 can be about an unknown power.
This would be a great set up for P3 and it's connection to Alien.
