... First they have to get there, and secondly they have to get there alive... over and over again... like driving to work. Once the tech, human hardships, and the unknown are conquered, then Mars One will become a reality. I find 2023 a little to optimistic.

the year Weyland does his talk no link of course :P :O https://www.google.co.uk/search?rlz=1C2CHMA_en-GBGB358&hl=en&safe=off&site=&source=hp&q=weyland+2023&oq=weyland+2023&gs_l=hp.3..0l3.1463.6951.0.7162.16.13.2.1.1.0.247.1479.9j2j2.13.0...0.0...1c.KenbMQ5qlLk

Bigger problem for terraforming is atmosphere. It will take decades more to even adjusting with it. If no artificial domes are formed then it would be hard to send humans there. I wonder if scientist found ancient species dna over there. Highly unlikely but would be newsworthy stuff for our grand children to watch on tv.
Uncertainty is the only certainty there is, and knowing how to live with insecurity is the only security.

I say - from a positivist point of view - 120 years from now, there may be a Mars collony.

Never in my wildest dreams......is this actually a joke or scam?
To me, the phrase, "By 2023", immediately undermines every single other thing they have to say and suggests they are a little wide of some of the practicalities - which is a shame, as the driving principle may not be as a crazy as it may first sound, simply because the driving principle sounds so very crazy, it might actually have legs:
Mission to Mars; financed by Private Enterprise, largely by making the whole thing - the recruitment, training and deployment process - a Reality TV show?
And, by the way, it's a Mars One-way Ticket - no-one comes home?..
I can't help wonder just how big an Audience Share - and how many Views, Likes, Tweets and Subs - a show with that format could actually get?...
Especially when the applicants start going crazy and also dying - before they even leave Earth...

Or global warming kicks in and we have to get our asses in gear to survive :P (ok maybe not by 2023 but soon after?)

Letters of interest is one thing - actually getting them to pay up is another. You are asking private investors to put money into a venture that will not have any return except the potential death of humans. A mission of this magnitude has no guarantee of success or survival. We still do not know the amount of radiation levels and its short or long term effects it will have on humans. Are the modules people live in made of lead? With all the rovers sent to mars none have actually measured radiation levels on the planet. A mission like this would be suicide at best. I will say maybe 50 years but hopefully sooner.
