What are you watching?

About TV haven't watched in 2-3 yrs. so no series from there. I've watched a lot of movies such as My Sister's Keeper, Splice, AvP, Alien to Alien Resurrection and one of my faves Memoirs of a Geisha. From internet I've watched series such as South Park, Friends and SATC. Nothing else haven't checked.

@engineering: Haven't watched any lynch lately (though im quite fond of twin peaks, eraserhead, and blue velvet.) Havent had much time to really delve into anything new as of late. I recently watched: 1) Planet of the Apes (hadnt seen it in a while; that was a lot of fun!). 2) 2001: A Space Odyssey (Prometheus got me in the mood for some classic sci-fi). 3) The Proposition (wow...probably guy pearces' BEST film. this one is a KEEPER!). In addition to the previously mentioned films, my mainstay (more like my obsession for almost 2 decades), X Files, has been on heavy rotation during sleepless nights. What a great show! X files revolutionized the creative approach to television shows.

@Engineering Well I shift between many categories: BBC Documentaries, War Films, Alien series (yes I do watch the dreaded AvP), some Star Trek, Anime, Hitchcock, and lots of others... all while I do hobbies and art projects... I like the sounds and activity... and well it keeps me company too... LOL.

The Walking Dead is a must see for me @ the moment. I've been revisiting my Prisoner & X-Files box sets. Film wise, it's been Real Steel, The Prestige, Van Helsing, Don't Look Now, Paul, Blade Runner, On The Edge of Blade Runner, Alien Evolution & the beloved ALIEN! At the cinema Prometheus (4 viewings) before it left, three weeks ago.

Ok, trust me, I read all the responses and really want to and will respond. However... [i]On The Edge of Blade Runner[/i] [b]HOW THE HELL DID I NOT KNOW ABOUT THIS?![/b] As soon as I saw it I looked it up and am now watching it. I thought Dangerous Days covered everything in regards to the making of Blade Runner but after watching the first 6:29 of this I realize I was wrong. TY so much for posting about it, Lone! I'll be back later!

Oh, well I'm glad to have been of some help Engineering. :-) It's one of the best film documentaries ever. Enjoy.....

....and I am an admirer of Lynch, along with Cronenberg, he is a true Auteur.

Ok, got done watching On the Edge and it was pretty good. What had got me so excited in the beginning was Paul Sammon talking about PKD getting the ideas behind BR from reading a Nazi's journal. I've read at least 3 PKD biographies and I've never heard about that. What a fantastic piece of history. I also really enjoyed seeing William Sanderson and the hospital scene between Holden and Deckard is quite different than the scene that's on the Ultimate Edition. It's mainly different in regards to Morgan Paull's performance. He raises his voice a lot more and I think some lines are either added or removed. Pretty cool seeing the differences. It was nice to see they got Vangelis' name right as most don't. I really loved when Hauer talked about the split that he saw between people who liked the film and people who didn't. It made me laugh and a portion of it reminded me of the reaction to a certain new film that most of us obsess over. @Joeyjoe...I never was into X-Files and have meant to check the show out for a long time. Gotta get to it soon. @Lone...TWD is one of my must watch shows as well along with Breaking Bad. Both probably my fave shows of all time. I'm super-pissed because my cable company is in "negotiations" with AMC and I can't watch Breaking Bad right now. If the company doesn't pick the channel back up I will definitely be switching. As far as Prisoner do you mean the crappy US remake they did with Jim Cavezil(or however you spell his name) a few years ago or the original? I've always heard great things about the original. I saw it for $25 at a used store the other day. Thought about picking it up but didn't. I'm also a huge fan of Cronenberg. I found Rabid the other day and gave it a go. It was pretty good for his 2nd feature with no $$ behind it. I revisited my Naked Lunch Criterion the other day. Mostly though I'm loving his newer stuff recently. Especially A Dangerous Method which I've talked up quite a bit here on the board.

@Engineering......OMG NOT The Prisoner remake, the original series created by the GENIUS Mr. McGoohan! In reference to On The Edge of Bladerunner, I love the part where Mark Kermode asks him if Deckard is a replicant & Ridley replies in the AFFIRMATIVE (yes folks he said it), then a huge grin appears on his face! That & Alien Evolution were made back in the good old days when Channel 4 Television made & broadcast programs of quality & depth. Shivers, Rabid, Scanners, Naked Lunch, Crash, A Dangerous Method.......it's been interesting watching Cronenberg develop. I'm in the UK, watching repeats of TWD @ the moment, can't wait for series 3!!!! Hope your cable company issues are resolved soon!

Yeah, I've obviously seen both versions of Alien Evolution with their inclusion in the quadrilogy and blu-ray anthology. I recognized Kermode's voice and figured it was produced by the same people but had no idea it was a tv station that made them. Have they done any other good film docs? BTW...my cable issues will be resolved. One way or the other.

I recently picked up a 3 disc edition of Panic Room. I'm a big Fincher fan but had only seen the film once, quite some time ago, and was never really impressed. Some may have realized I'm an avid dvd extras fan and sometimes watch extras for films more than the films themselves. So I decided to check Panic Room's features out. Especially since it had 3 discs which confused me as my opinion of the film was pretty meh. I have to say after watching the film again I found I liked it more than I originally did. Sometimes when I don't think much of the story or writing I become blind to the craft of filmaking. Fincher is obviously spot on as far as craft in this film. Lighting, composition, building tension are definitely on great display through out. The 2 discs worth of extras probably could have fit on one disc and didn't really show me anything to interesting. Just more of Fincher's amazing attention to detail.

Both were made by a Scottish company, Nobles Gate for Channel 4. I seem to remember Mark Kermode presenting other docus for Channel 4, one was A History of The Slasher Movie! They also branched into film production with Film 4 Productions. I'm a fan of 'extras' too, I love finding out about every little detail & nuance of the production. Thanks to DVD & Blue Ray we can now immerse ourselves in the technicalities, artwork, bloopers, deletions, cut scenes etc, etc. I just love hearing Directors, Actors, Concept Artists & Cinematographers talk about their work.

I also find it fascinating, hearing Directors talk about other Directors who have influenced them. Scott influenced by Kubrick, Hitchcock, Welles. Then the likes of Fincher influenced by Scott. The evolution of all good film-making stems from the same backbone.

The double disc special edition of The Hills Have Eyes includes a good documentary called The American Nightmare. More interesting than the film! :-)

I have the Anchor Bay double disc of THHE but I also have The American Nightmare on dvd by itself. It's pretty good. There are some pretty good docs you can get on netflix. There's a good one called Midnight Movies and one called Not Quite Hollywood which is about the Austrailian exploitation films of the 70's and 80's. They have Stanley Kubric:A Life In Pictures which is great. I'll have to try and remember some of the other good ones. You probably already know that Anchor Bay puts out great content as far as special features. I watched The Ring tonight for the first time in ages. It doesn't hold up quite as well as I remembered but I still enjoyed it. Pretty good little flick, that. The best part was noticing that Daveigh Chase of Donnie and S. Darko fame played the little evil Samara in the film. I about shat when I noticed it was her.
