MemberOvomorphAug 4, 20127983 Views17 RepliesSo in keeping with the tradition of each movie in the Alien series having a different composer doing the music (and as this series of films takes place in the same universe) who do you reckon could do a good job on the second film?
I go for Trent Reznor. Even though any involvement would in all likelihood delay / destroy / interrupt any possibility of a new Nine Inch Nails reunion project and upset me no end.

Quaiche: Marc Streitenfeld did a fantastic job, his score was one of the most unexpected pleasures of Prometheus! But... Trent Reznor...WOW. Haven't enen thought of that. Oooh * crosses fingers*.

QuaicheAugust 04, 2012
Personally I thought Marc Streitenfeld (and Harry Gregson-Williams) did a great job with the Prometheus Score.
I honestly wouldn't mind them continuing with the future productions; especially in keeping with a constant thread of music and moods running through to the next film.
Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross are on flying form I agree, The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo remake had a fantastic 3 disc soundtrack. For me it was one of the best Scores of recent times.
Vangelis obviously would be amazing, though his work seems to be very sparse at the moment. However, he did play one concert that I know of last year. I would honestly pay top prices to hear him put on a performance of Blade Runner's soundtrack.
Other possible suggestions... Perhaps Clint Mansell, Cliff Martinez or Howard Shore.

Trent Reznor and/or Atticus Ross. Watch Book of Eli, Social Network, and US remkae of The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo, those guys are brilliant.

there is no no one out there that can fill Jerry Goldsmiths shoes--but, an industrial sound--like Trent Reznor can produce, might be quite interesting!

Adding another vote for the Reznor-Ross team. They would make an insane atmosphere for the soundtrack and movie that Reznor is already well known for.
Another idea is to make something like a "R3C0NF1GUR3D" or remix album, bring in the community and fans, or contests. Bring in fans who are also musicians or even video editors. This already started with the first movie.
The remix of the original Alien trailer is one example:

And then many remixes of the music or other parts of the movie:

Of course, with Reznor and Ross, they usually open up some of the songs from each soundtrack for remixing anyway, and video editors can pull from the trailers... but it's nothing like an official collaboration with Ridley and the others.

@ wintermute...
Book of Eli was Atticus Ross only, Trent Reznor was not involved in the soundtrack for that picture.

I like Trent Reznor's work on The Social Network and his Ghosts album, and while he USED to be capable of making something dark and ominous, I'm not sure if he'd be the best choice for that now. Lustmord gets my vote.

You have my apologies for this huge post, but I am going to analyze Jerry Goldsmith music by putting videos of music that might influenced him...
I think that Marc Streitenfeld did a solid job with Harry Gregson Williams, but they should have used more music like this:
And those two specific tracks I found but I don’t know the composer…
AND JERRY HIMSELF:
All orchestral track in Prometheus were great, for example track Life with strong brass section and angelic choir (a bit like Strauss, Wagner and Holst...); track Earthborrowed elements from Life (metaphorically Life came from earth/ water and soil) but with a specific tune that represent water flow; this track is a bit more atmospheric, and has a note that is similar to breathing... so this track is also good. Track Too Close is also great; that repeating melody is creepy and could be used in the next one...
Track Engineers have that strange note to it, and the idea is very good but it needs to be expanded and improved...! Music in the orrary was phenomenal... Track Space Jockey is also nice...Music in the ampule room have a great potential (sacrificial and cryptic note). They need to implement more music type from the original Alien and that means all music from above because that music and composers were main influence on Goldsmith!
So they have great amount of material to experiment... I personally would like to hear grand orchestral music with mysterious chorus for the Paradise planet and then really creepy music for David specifically (there they failed in Prometheus and David is very important character), and more bio-mechanoid atmospheric music for creatures and Engineers (I like basso choir for their theme, but that needs to be revised in Covenant). So that is my take on soundtrack. Cheers!
P.S. I have a few more compositions on mind... So whoever composer they chose, he better compose music similar to Goldsmiths and like all those i listed above...
Music of Prometheus is grander and more Wagnerian and similar to composers like Holst (with smol amount of some synthetic or mechanical element to it)... but I think that orchestral (used in Prometheus) music in combination with all above is perfect fit for Alien music!!!
Big things have small beginnings.

So now we know that Harry Gregson-Williams is going to score full soundtrack for Alien Covenant...
He did only two supplemental track for Prometheus, and I think that he is very good! :)
