MemberOvomorphSep-10-2012 8:05 AMSo for those who've not seen it, FreePlanet has just linked THIS VIDEO OF DELETED SCENES
NEW LINK ADDED FROM IO9.COM HERE
10 minutes from the 40 promised.
The one thing i've noticed was at 8:10
"Maybe you should look at the thing squealing next door"
So the huge, huge gap where we thought Shaw had this somehow secret pregnancy to Cuddles, with everyone elses totally unawares WAS addressed.
Be intereting to see how and why this may have been cut at the expense of the continuity that stuck out like a sore thumb.
Anyone else garner more from those deleted scenes?

MemberOvomorphSep-10-2012 8:16 AMI am glad to notice that there was a plot, dialogue and some sort of logic consequentiality before the theatrical cut was made.
Ridley Scott will eventually tell us how the Queen was born.
Right now we have the Deacon; coming soon the Mercury, the May and the Taylor.

MemberFacehuggerSep-10-2012 8:21 AMLooked pretty interesting, had to watch it without sound due to being in a computer lab. Have to watch again when i get home or perhaps not due to wanting to see all deleted scenes at once :)

MemberNeomorphSep-10-2012 8:30 AMYeah, they obviously knew about the giant squid being onboard. It seems that Weyland and/or Vickers wanted to take it back for the bio-weapons division.
The poster was good though!

MemberOvomorphSep-10-2012 8:32 AM I just can't stand that Holloway...They just found an unknown alien species and he's calling the whole thing a failure and starts drinking himself lazarus???
And he's now constantly arguing with Shaw and stuff. What a... ah forget it.
You don\\\'t see them fucking each other over for a goddamn percentage!

MemberOvomorphSep-10-2012 8:34 AMPossibly, there might be another sequence where Shaw is told that Cuddles is still alive and being kept inside the Med Room. That would better explain her curiosity when she peeps through the window after she boards the crashed life-boat.

MemberFacehuggerSep-10-2012 8:40 AMThere going to be 40 minutes - ok now my interest levels are rising a bit!
That 10 minutes was actually interesting in bits - although most of it was a bit bland - theres some bits there that would add to the film - sweet! Although that bit were they start kissing made me squirm a bit! Some of it made me hate Halloway more but at teh same time he actually brings up questions that make me like him more for the first time :O !
I wonder if the elder scenes are part of them - as Ridley is correctly redesigning them completely I hear?
Ah man they soo need to do a DC and get it out fast - wanaa see if this can become almost a classic - must admit I was hoping to see milburn and fifield getting off there nuts to explain the hammerpede part :S ....
"It's almost as if they are making it up as they go along" :D

AdminEngineerSep-10-2012 8:44 AMMy favorite is really the scene with Fifield and Milburn when they discover the 'Alien Cocoon' on the ground.. that begs a whole new set of questions! And also, Holloway comes across as even more of an ass, haha.
Hyped for: Alien: Romulus | Badlands (Predator 6) | Cloverfield 4

MemberOvomorphSep-10-2012 8:45 AM@ Chris, ain't that the truth. He is now my least favourite alien-franchise character of all time. Congratulations Hollow Way...

MemberOvomorphSep-10-2012 9:07 AMthe DISCOVERED SKIN SCENE alone suggests that 'something has already taken place' and some THING has already GROWN before Millburn and Mohawk are 'adjusted' ... is there a massive missing narrative thread/eradication here?
Holloway's, "Remember, we were supposed to TALK TO THEM," is intriguing, and yes he truly is shown to be even more c**tish than his brief-er role in the theatrical cut.

MemberOvomorphSep-10-2012 9:23 AMIs it not the hammerpede skin? I assume they molted as they grew.
I may work for the company, but im really an OK guy.

MemberOvomorphSep-10-2012 9:59 AMHammerpede should have been MUCH BIGGER if it had already 'shed such a topologically vast skin to grow', no?

MemberOvomorphSep-10-2012 10:08 AMThat has to be the Hammerpede's skin. Finding the fresh skin probably contributed to Milburn's confidence when encountering the Hammerpede. He was able to anticipate that live alien lifeforms were present in the structure. That doesn't explain why he approached the extraterrestrial life so poorly, but it might explain why he wasn't overly surprised or startled by finding a living creature.

AdminPraetorianSep-10-2012 10:12 AMYeah when Vickers mentions the "Thing squealing next door" or when David is there to hear Shaw talk about the world creation story "The people asked the sun, why did you make me" and he repeats those lines to Charlie later in context to his own creation. We also see how angry Charlie is and why. These scenes REALLY tie the movie together. Those were all issues I had with the movie, it seemed broken. I really hate they can't just release a movie properly in theatres...

MemberOvomorphSep-10-2012 10:19 AMThe skin found actually is the perfect size for the hammerpede, if you go by the shed skins of real snakes.

Shame i never saw it, it appears that many of these cuts actually are the reasons for a number of the plot holes.
So they not so much plot holes.... just holes in the actual film because of the cuts made.

MemberOvomorphSep-10-2012 11:51 AMThis just made me love Shaw and hate Holloway. What an ASS !!! But I like the emotion in Noomis slap x2. . .so sad the engineer scenes weren't here :'(

MemberOvomorphSep-10-2012 12:24 PM@NoxWord: Good to see you back! Only just noticed your comment and I'm thinking it also explains how or why Vickers isn't making it into the big Life Boat, (which contains the MedPod) before Janek gives order to eject it. Nice little gap filled there, well spotted...

MemberOvomorphSep-10-2012 12:38 PMWow love them all, PROEMTHEUS is the very first movie about space, were i like human dialogue and scenes without getting bored

MemberOvomorphSep-10-2012 1:02 PMLike most of you here, I agree and think a lot of the deleted scenes being show here added a lot more cohesion to the story and fleshed out Shaw, Holloway and Vickers' characters a lot better.
I especially liked the molted skin scene and the alternate cut of Shaw and Holloway in their room. She sheds more light into what happened to the Engineers with talk about an infection and what happened in the tunnels when they first went in (video playback).
I really think they had a more complete narrative to begin with, before they became so concerned with the running time of it. Shame they did such a hatchet job of editing the theathrical release. I hope they go back and piece together a true director's cut from the scenes that were cut including the alternate mutated Fifield, that looks sick!

HAL 9000
MemberOvomorphSep-10-2012 1:22 PMI also believe the extended/added scene for Milburn and Fifield is helping since they don't seem to have much dialogue there, haha! Of course I'd always rather not have them in the movie in the first place, unless they would be replaced by two more serious, skilled scientists, surely less tacky and cheesy altogether.
I still think that most of their screen time is a total waste and utterly unnecessary. If the plot needed characters just to be killed off, there were plenty of others available. 5-6 well developed characters and a total runtime of 2h40m would have been perfect!
No offense to the actors intended, it is not their fault as they're both great, just not in this flick.

MemberOvomorphSep-10-2012 1:43 PMI sincerely hope we see M & F socialise more in the cut scenes. For example see them playing UNO while waiting inside the pyramid, at least it would make sense, given the lack of love those two characters suffered from the authors.

MemberXenomorphSep-10-2012 2:29 PMThe question was if it helps us piece together the film.
To me: definitely yes.
If this doesn't prove beyond any doubt that the theatrical release was butchered on Purpose then what will ?
The other thing I don't get is where was this footage obtained from ? I thought the only DVD that had the extended cut scenes was the DVD that will be released on 8/9 October this year ?
Another "accident" ?
I say this just to keep record: I believe that prometheus is a "sequel" to alien happening in the future. It is what Ridley would have done had he been given the chance to do an alien sequel. My point being that we will see the final life cycle of the Xenomorph - how the victims get injected to morph maybe even see how it happens - finishing what should have happened 25-28 years ago. In so doing we will bypass all this canon nonsense and Ridley will tell us the story he has always wanted to tell us. That's why I think that alien(director's cut) and Prometheus will form the basis of what happens in p1 - p2 - p3 up to a1 and will not lend from a2 - a4 or avp series. Ridley wants to do his own thing - make his own mythology that moves away from everything after alien.
I particularly think this might be a good thing !!!
Well now we have to wait for the dvd to see if I am right !!
OP
Good question

HAL 9000
MemberOvomorphSep-10-2012 2:39 PMSorry but what extactly makes you think that Prometheus is set after ALIEN? I didn't quite catch that.
Regarding your question, DVD's leak out way before official release all the time. It just happened with The Hunger Games, there was a HD quality rip circulating on the net 3 weeks prior to release.
You must have heard that Prometheus will be available for digital download from iTunes and via other sources fairly soon. That copy also contains the extra/deleted scenes so someone must have got hold of it an has put it online.

oduodu
MemberXenomorphSep-10-2012 2:49 PMI don't litteraly mean after alien only as a showing from Ridley Scott that this is what he would have wanted to do IF HE HAD BEEN GIVEN THE CHOICE TO MAKE AN ALIEN SEQUEL.
No prometheus happened before alien. It is only my thought that if Ridley had done the alien sequel in 1986 it would have had a lot of the elements of Prometheus in it - I believe we wil see the final adult stage of the xenomorph in p1. But the only way he could have done it was going back in the past as giler and co messed up everything.
Only a thought .

A copy of the online downloadable version. Thanks for that !!!
Isn't that going to kill DVD sales ?
What I mean is : isn't it stupid to release an online downloadable version of the movie a few weeks before the DVD is released ?

HAL 9000
MemberOvomorphSep-10-2012 3:15 PMYes that certainly does, that's why we all don't download or spread pirate copies around here! Nudge nudge, wink wink. As for the official digital download, I don't think it will affect the DVD sales too much as they're not as great in quality as well as they might not have the full content of the box sets, and obviously the true collector will miss out on a nice looking box, too. It's just for those who really cannot wait any longer. But like I said, there might be a slight influence on the sales, which is what I'm struggling to understand just as well, it's a fairly new concept, at least I haven't seen this before.
As for the issue with Scott's involvement in prequels and sequels to ALIEN, I now get what you mean, I might have misunderstood you slightly there before. But then again, it feels wrong to think of ALIEN sandwiched between those all new versions, re-telling an old story. What's done is done and I think Scott has come to terms with it. So, he's taking us all on a new journey and I like that very much... Haven't we all seen enough Xenomorphs, Eggs, Chestbursters and Facehuggers in all kinds of situations? I personally have and I'm excited to hopefully soon get answers about the chap in the armchair!
