Countdown meaning

while I was posting I've noticed a countdown in the center of the page that says 26 days, 6:55:01... what this countdown means actually?

countdown to 10.11.12 we're going to find out whats going to happen on that day. hopefully something is exciting other than dvd/bluray release date
