Appologies if I have insulted some folks recently. I’m angry because I’m passionate about my favourite franchise. Now I really wish I hadn’t seen the deleted scenes. Here’s why. In the deleted scenes( and I really hope they don’t include all in the director’s cut) Holloway now LITERALLY says about halfway in the movie (I’m 100% this scene takes place AFTER they’ve visited the temple, Shaw and Hollowhead are on the Prometheus, he's lying on a couch like Kate Winslett in Titanic You can clearly see he's disappointed...still can't believe it...I was so wrong): “WE CAME HERE TO TALK TO THEM HONEY, REMEMBER, IT CHANGES NOTHING” (*he even makes hand gestures, waving his arms like a little child*) O.O O.O O.O Dude, so we should forget the WHOLE thing? IT REALLY DOESN’T MATTER AT ALL??????? Why *sshole? WHY? He completely contradicts himself here. AND he’s one of our main characters, it’s impossible to ignore this statement. Can anyone else see this GIANT, MASSIVE, ULTIMATE HOLE IN THE PLOT IN THE HISTORY OF CINEMA??? *Hollowhead, a company man from Weyland nows says that they knew sth about them...Well, guess we can forget about ALIENS, ALIEN 3, ALIEN RESURRECTION then, because Weyland -Yutani calls Ripley a moron when she tells the story that happened in ALIEN, she even gets upset about it. "All this this BS, you can kiss all that goodbye, and in ALIENS they only sent a rescue mission because they couldn't believe her. Prometheus only logically ties in with AlIEN."Crew expendable". How in the world are they going to fix this???? I can’t see where this story is going to be honest…. Prometheus 2? HAH…complete bollocks of a story that will be if they let this scene in. Holloway killed off the myth all by himself… Ridley let Lindeloffhead rip off the franchise he started himself...

I genuinely cannot understand why people get so worked up about Holloway. I won't be seeing the deleted scenes until I get the Blu-Ray in a few weeks, so I'll reserve judgement about them until then, but – for the love of God – when is it going to sink in that Holloway is supposed to be an irritating unlikeable character. It's made very very plain indeed that he wants to speak to the Engineers, and he's massively disappointed when this becomes seemingly impossible. It's just one character's particular outlook. Get over it. It doesn't affect the Franchise one jot. If you think that it does, you need to do some serious thinking about your own outlook.

Not having the benefit of having seen said deleted scene, what is meant, exactly, by the phrase "REMEMBER, IT CHANGES NOTHING"? What is "IT"? And how does this contradict anything else that was said?

How did Holloway pass the psychological tests in the first place....?

I think he means as far as Shaws quest to find out who our makers are. If the Engineers are dead then Shaw can not get any information to prove that they was created by a God or to prove that they was the Gods. Thats the only thing i can think of, because in the scene that was kept when Holloway indicates that the Engineers made us, she asked who made them.

@Gimmeafacehug: I do understand your frustration, well to an extend. But how can you get so heated up about this? I suggest, you get off the coffee, take a long walk and have a good deep breath of fresh air... then find someone who's willing to give you a real' tight facehug! Haha! On topic though, aren't Milburn and especially Fifield much more ridiculous and unreasonable in their behaviour? Wouldn't it be even more likely for those two to fail the psychological tests for a mission of that importance and magnitude?

MemberOvomorphSep-16-2012 9:24 AM
NO because they NEVER said ANYTHING like THIS. And I'm sorry if I get worked up abaot it, I really am, but for for Gods sake man, IS THIS ALL WE DESERVE???

Undoubtfully, the movie had more potential to be much better and bigger, I agree with you there. But there's no way that I would let it get to me as much as you do. This is the beginning of a very exciting story and venture, and I cannot wait to see how it will continue and unfold in whatever is coming to us in the future. Is your main issue that Holloway said something you personally disagree with? What is it again that upsets you so much about his character's performance in those extended scenes? In my opinion the additional minutes give him even more depth and passion! Ok, he's not dealing with it well, he struggles to vent it out or to express his emotions properly. But nobody's perfect and don't forget he's keeping himself pretty drunk.

@Gimme: I can see that something is bugging you, but I still don't know what it is. I guess I'm just going to have to see the scenes in question because "REMEMBER, [THE ENTIRE MISSION!!!!!] CHANGES NOTHING" doesn't make any kind of sense to me. @Magellan9: Shaw and Holloway were hired personally by Weyland for his pet project of spending his last few days seeking an extended life. As such, it's most unlikely that any psychological profiling took place. The remainder of the crew were hired by Vickers. If any psychological profiling did take place prior to departure, it would have been along the lines of "how would you react when meeting your maker?", not "how spooked are you going to be when you find a bunch of murdered aliens in a cave?"

@zzplural: Well spoken. But wouldn't someone like Peter Weyland with that entrepreneurial spirit and seemingly infinite financial resources have hand-picked the best available scientists, or then at least have instructed Vickers to do so on his behalf? I think what we've seen in the viral campaign has indicated that extensive tests and profiling has indeed taken place, no?

@Hal 9000: Not necessarily. Weyland wanted only one thing: to become immortal, which involved meeting the Engineers and communicating with them (courtesy of David). He got a little impatient as soon as they got there, which is when David turned nasty. The remainder of the crew were expendable, as far as I can tell, and were only there as a cursory gesture to ensure that the meet took place in the first place. Weyland's control-freakery extended as far as keeping the purpose of the mission a big secret, and the chosen members didn't know what they were getting into. That's a far cry from a typical space mission, where the objectives are known years in advance and crew selection is made in a very open manner.

@Gimmeafacehug. I've watched the deleted scenes, which were posted the other day and i didn't see any difference to the way he was in the actual film. He is very disapointed and angry about not being able to meet the engineers in person which made him even more obnoxious than he was before! @ZZ. i thought David started to turn nasty after Vickers threw him against the wall?

The poster was good though!

@Necromon: No. David sneakily grabbed the urn from the Big Head Room, soon after landing. He'd undoubtedly been in contact with Weyland prior to that.

Shame the poor guy gets torched alive by Vickers and he practically begs her to do it cause his in so much pain and it is almost as if he realizes that he is sacrificing himself (or what he is becoming) for the sake of others .... Plus he is made the genii pig for some cruel experiment...and for the love of god...the guy has a few too many cause his real disappointed and now he is labeled as some drunken alcoholic and violent home wrecking abusive monster simply because he forced a kiss....everyone is screaming RAPIST !.... Gimme a fucking break....seriously! And GimmeAfacehug......GET OVER HOLLOWAY!...or just watch him get torched over and over....watch it in slow mo and cream your pants....lol Is it only i that thought the guy was just another flawed human being...I did not necessarily like his character....but i thought Logan Marshall Green did a decent enough job... I have met people worse than Charlie...I have dated men worse than Charlie!

That's a far cry from a typical space mission, where the objectives are known years in advance and crew selection is made in a very open manner. Yes that is all very clear, you have very good points there and most of it makes sense in my book, but let's shift back the focus to Holloway specifically. What is your and everyone else's opinion on his drinking and attitude as an archaeologists (right?), on a trillion dollar mission? I'll be crystal clear here; Violating orders from capt Janek as he; 1. Does not sit down until the craft has landed 2. Takes his helmet off despite the warning from Janek and other crew members. Why no disciplinary action? As Shaw and Ford examine the head in a sterile environment, Holloway stumbles in drunk in his personal clothes here, acting like a douche as always. I'm no expert on bacteria and infections, but I'm sure a lot of people know that you DO NOT walk into a room during an ongoing surgical experiment or whatever you call it, without protective clothing! An ancient alien head could be a contagious risk. Holloway seemed so bored after realizing that the enginners were dead, but isn't a moon with alien structures enough? With a certain room where the atmospheric conditions are so perfect that you can breathe? That's one hell of a discovery! The only reasonable explanation I see here is that Holloway has been through dozens of missions prior to this one where he's seen other lifeforms. This thread has been professionally discussed so far, so lets keep it that way!

@Juxtapose. I agree that Logan Marshel Green did a great job of portraying him and his character was required for the film to progress in the way it did. But Hollowhead is an obnoxious twonk and that's part of the fun, because we enjoy disliking him, imo anyway. Lets face it, he does behave like a spoilt little boy who didn't get the present he wanted for christmas, LOL. @Gimmeafacehug. I just can't remember Quote "we came here to talk to them honey, remember, it changes nothing"?...and why does it ruin the story and myth just because Hollowhead says so?

The poster was good though!

@ necronom 4 Yeah he had an ego bigger than this forum and all it's members combined...but i could never hate him...he just needed a good old spanking in public to humiliate him a bit.... torching was a bit harsh in my opinion...not that i blame Vickers...besides he asked for it...."DO IT"...! And wow what an intense scene...I had goosebumps...I thought it was such a disturbing and powerful moment...Shaw was screaming hysterically ( in fact at one stage i thought it was him screaming...maybe him and Shaw was screaming in agony?)....and Theron did one of her best bits in the movie...."...what are you doing!!!....I am telling you to stay back....STAY BACK!!!!!" Yeah IMO it is so sad and beautiful... yet really disturbing...it's when everyone starts losing it..... one of my favorite scenes...good intense shit ...the kinda stuff that Ridley was born to film!

@Magellan 9: 1 & 2: "As far as you are concerned, they are in charge." These were Weyland's instructions; therefore, he was pretty much free to act like a twerp without retribution. It was made pretty clear that Holloway wanted, above anything else, to speak with the Engineers. He didn't want to find an archaeological dig or dead aliens. He wanted much much more. That's his bag. It was such a disappointment to him that he hit the bottle. Some people do that kind of thing.

@Gimme - I'm equally confused about your beef with this scene, it's an extension of the disappointment he showed in the original cut. How does this single, abstract line spoil it for you? Also, who is CD in Titanic?

Did IQ's just drop while I was away LOL. Love this site/franchise/ people. Here's what I'm saying....He literally says "It changes nothing" (1000 percent sure) This definitely takes place in 'Holloway's hungover" Now, if he doesn't care (and he's one of our main characters), why should we? They cut this scene because it didn't work and that makes me wonder, what else have they come up with that's a complete insult to anyone who has ever 'really' seen ALIEN...

@Gimme: I'll take your word that Holloway says "it changes nothing". You have previously explained by this that he meant "[the expedition] changes nothing". And? You might call that exaggeration, but it's not inconsistent. He does care about the mission but in his mind it's turned out to be a complete let down. I'll repeat: he didn't want to find a bunch of rocks and dead aliens. He wanted dialogue with them; to find out about their culture and the vastness of their travels. Compared with that tantalising prospect, what they got was little more than a few cave paintings. Did you see how high he was when he first saw the Pyramid? His whooping and yelping in excitement that went right through Milburn and Fifield? And the big crash of events when all they got was an ancient head? No, his words are completely in character. Of course, later events reveal much more of what's going on. But by then, Holloway is dead, of course. He doesn't have the opportunity to revise his opinion.

@Gimmeafacehug: Now it's Céline Dion lying on a sofa in Titanic? Haha! I didn't know she was pursuing a career in acting, I heard she's a good singer though! I think you need to consider smoking less s**t. Seriously. I've been there myself, I know what it's like... - Let me make an incision. - Okay. - Go up, 40. - Did you see that? - Go up another 10. - Maybe it's a little... - ...too much. Go down 10. - Down another 20! - I'm trying, it's not going down. - Full down. Ford...stop it! - Oh, God.

Can someone actually explain ther problem shortly without caps lock? What is so upsetting about Holloway? Yes he said that because he wanted to talk and see and touch engineers and Shaw was fine with one simple little head. I don't really see the problem. . .>_<
