Am I the only one who just wants another Alien movie?

MemberOvomorphOctober 01, 20122771 Views38 RepliesI mean, the Engineer story is great and all, but I believe that if they connect the story to Alien directly, or just completely make another Alien movie, it would be more entertaining. I don't want Ridley Scott to waste the opportunity to go back to one of his best films and create an amazing backstory. I want another Alien movie, not any of this Engineer stuff.
Who's with me?

not I. Im completely into the story of the engineers etc. I feel like another "alien" movie would not only be sub-par, but a waste of a perfectly good opportunity to create something new and interesting. We all have our opinions, but im excited about the direction prometheus is headed. i hope the sequel veers even further away from the alien franchise (but maybe drops a few understated visual clues concerning the bio-weapon/alien etc.)

You can do interesting stories with each of the Alien and the Engineers; you would just have to do it right.
The Engineer premise (notice I'm not calling it a story because it's not) could be very interesting so long as it wasn't the demure cock-tease that Prometheus was (what I mean by that is creating an unsolvable and frustrating mystery).
For an Alien sequel, it would be cool if they took it back to it's roots and had space civilians crawling through dark tunnels with flashlights and lots of jump-scares (go back and watch Alien again; there's a lot of jump-scares). Also, a little more exploration into the rape subtext might be cool.
So, yes, count me among those that would want to see another Alien movie.

I'd like to see another Alien movie, but the only person who can really do the Alien universe justice is Ridley, and he's not gonna do another typical Alien movie. I'm must more interested in Prometheus. Clearly he has something truly epic and profound in store for us... can't wait.

Ridley admitted the Alien story was beaten to death. Aliens running around killing people. It's been done too many times. The engineer link, if done right, is far more interesting.

I agree Moon, the Engineer story gives future genre writers 'a ton' to work with. Hopefully a few years from now we can get a glimpse at an Engineer city, or perhaps even a female Engineer? I myself want to see a battle with a group of Engineers against a formidable opponent!

Why are people so uncreative and slow nowadays. Everybody wants to get spoon fed and entertained with explosions, death and useless violence. I have no problem in being entertained if it supports the structure of the story. But please grow up people. There is nothing better then watching a well written science-fiction story that will make you think, think and think some more.

they should make an alien 5 and link it up with prometheus 2 in the future, they discover the parts of prometheus and finish the puzzle on the alien prometheus link

@Subsume
Yyyyep. Pretty easy to spot. But you know what? Just for the hell of it.. i'll go at it.
Are you for real? Ask yourself this single question - after i've given my chain of reasoning; Why the HELL would you want more Alien films?
The Alien movies (except for the first one) haven't done ANYTHING, story-wise.
Literally, the Alien sequels are quite possibly amongst the most pointless movies every to be created.
What the hell did they do? Other than create a situation that comes as an excuse for a Xenomorph, or Xenomorphs to kill people.
Completely pointless. And a waste of freakin' TIME!
The only thing, in the end. The SMARTEST thing, in the end, that we've gotten; Ripley's character development. That hit its peak in Resurrection.
Watching Ripley transform from the person she was, to the person she became in Resurrection. Excellent.
Very well done.
Now i won't penalize the first Alien movie, and deem it pointless, as i do the sequels. But because of the simple fact that the sequels EXIST, i have to.
Alien not why i watch movies. I want something more. I want an actual story. I want depth. I want immersion. Atmosphere.
Not an alien monstrosity running around, systematically killing off the crew of a ship.
If Alien was a STANDALONE film. Which is what it SHOULD have been, i would have simply watched it, and said "good movie". Good design. A prime example of future-proof film-making. That holds up to this day. The only thing it needs; a touch-up.
Watch the Bluray of Alien, and you'll see.
The movie looks as if it were made today.
Flawless.

The alien HAS to be in the second Prometheus movie, in a religious note the alien is really the dark side of men "we create our own monsters" primeval movie" it's true, but on a scientific note i think the alien should be in the second movie for the scares and the fans it would be kind of a piss off if it was just engineers, the engineers ship crashed on lv-233 not lv-426, it's kool that they added a third race to the event, but don't forget about the first movie that started this franchise "ALIEN" made by non other then Ridley Scott so do you really think that he is going to make a movie that takes place in the alien universe and not put the "ALIEN" in it ???!!!!!!! Also so this is a great opportunity to create different alien hybrids seeing as it's early in the evolution stage!! and as for you prenihility the alien franchise is the same concept as a zombie apocalypses surrounded by everything you can kill i don't like that kinda shit i' m all for story to but unlike stupid zombies alien actually has a purpose not to just go around eat flesh and turn people into more zombies that crap. so that's why i wanna see it Prometheus 2 i wanna see how it was made and evolved and alien 5 okay that does sound kinda foolish

Alien shmalien. It was done. It was really good. Now let's move on...
BUT, I have to ask, WHY was almost all of the screen time that was originally devoted to the Engineers (and even SHOT) not included in this movie?! CLEARLY the Engineers are what have defined the rebirth of of this franchise. Look at what was done promotionally at SDCC. Look at the effin’ cover of the most expensive Blu-Ray they've come up with yet...
The core value proposition moving forward is the Engineers. Period.

You will see another Alien Movie..... its inevitable the Alien Xeno is such a iconic creation that some where down the line there would be a Movie or TV Series Spin off.
But i am not talking soon, we may have to wait 10, 20, even 30 years but at some point i think that the Xenomorph will be visited again.
As far as any time soon, like to coincide with Prometheus i dont think so, but i do think we may get to see them in Prometheus 3 even if for such a short time. As i think Ridley will want to tie in the Xeno to the Engineers and how the Xeno came to be or how the Engineers came to come into contact with them.
Because he would know if he never did, then somewhere down the line with the Question.... how did the Engineers come across the Xeno, how was it created left unanswered then if there is demand, then someone else will ANSWER those Questions and it would be totally out of creative control about what direction that could be and it could be something that goes completely against the idea that Ridley has but one he may want to keep a Mystery but a Mystery he may be forced to Answer or risk someone else Answer it differently to his ideas.
ANYWAY...
You Love the Xeno....
Well i think we will see the Xeno used a lot in Video Games and over the next 10-20 years Video Games will advance to a stage where you are actually part of the Story the Action or feel like it and it would also be a Visual Story that you can change.
As far as the Xeno in Movies, well what do you do to make a Story/Scenario about them that has not been covered in the other Movies....
The only Logical one is about the Xeno prior to Alien and thus the purpose the Space Jockey Race used them and against Who.
I think Ridley will answer that but dont expect it to be a movie with Xenos in it all the way through as there are other ways to explain the reasons for the Xeno.

"What the hell did they do? Other than create a situation that comes as an excuse for a Xenomorph, or Xenomorphs to kill people."
There was more to the Story than just Xenos on a Rampage, the Premise of these movies was mainly the ability of the Xeno to Survive its Survival Instincts its main instinct to pro-create its species.
Then the story of how Weyland wanted to get there hands on the said Organism for the use of a Bio Weapon.
A lot of the movies was about Xenos killing, but their was a story around that.
In Alien well the Organism did the same thing, that was kill, unless you look at the deleted scene. But the thing with Alien was the way it was done, it was a tense dark Horror Thriller with the point being on subtle things and sounds that made you jump, rather than fully see the Xenomorph all the time.
Many Horror Films start like that the Friday 13th the Nightmare on Elm Street and the sequels turn into more of a in your face, action horror hack fest. Than the original more tense thriller aspects.
I guess the reasons are the Originals we get to see the Bad Guy fully by the time the movie is finished and thus the Monster/Villain has been exposed and so in future movies they carry on with the premise that while we already know what a Alien, Freddy and Jason look like and what they do, lets exploit what they do and look like. They simply lost the unknown villain aspect of them.
Some could say that Prometheus had many parts that was pointless, it was trying to cover to many bases....
Showed only little of every aspect so we still dont know in detail...
1) What the Urns can do.
2) What killed the Engineers.
3) Who are the Engineers in depth and their Agenda.
4) Why create and show the Deacon.
5) What becomes of LV 223.
Plus many more...
But this is all done with ambiguity and covered a lot of bases so that their are a lot of directions a sequel could go, any sequels could pick up on any number of parts of Prometheus and explore and explain them in more detail but in a way that then raises more questions.
My point about what was the point, is that some could ask.... so whats Prometheus trying to accomplish? Who created us and Why?, Who Created the xeno and Why? Who was the Space Jockey etc etc...
It was a movie that had many plots and stories running through it, rather than a single one or two as we saw in Alien, Aliens and Alien 3 etc.
By the way Alien Resurrection was i agree a bit pointless and very flawed and also not because they wanted to visit the Xeno, but then they had to think how to we get Ripley Back and thus they made a plot to be around Ripley more than the Xeno... that well..... SUCKED...
Sigourney Weaver even said before that she would like to be in another Alien movie if they did Alien 5, and she may had been a little disappointed she never played a part in Ridleys plans for a prequel.
Sorry but as far as the Story making sense... Ripley died in Alien 3

@onuris
I dont think we will find out much, certainly not in Prometheus 2, maybe at the end.
I think at the end we may find out about the Fall of LV 223 but i think that could be explained in Prometheus 3, where i do think we would get some explanation as to how the Engineers came into contact with or created the Xeno and why. And its connection with LV 223 and the Urns.

the engineers are only on the front of the blue-ray because the story is introducing there true form in the "ALIEN" universe, and besides there's gotta be some sort of monster in these kinda films.
October 02, 2012
um Rubirosa what is this discussion called, leave the engineers out of this, there amazing i like the concept but i like prometheus because it's based in the "ALIEN" universe, and the engineers originated in the first alien movie, so once they explain how the engineers ship crashed or even how it got there i' ll shut up but for now i' m in it for the creation of us and the "ALIEN"

I’m astounded that a couple of you guys are knocking one of the greatest sci-fi and horror movies of all time (Alien).
I don’t mind seeing another Alien movie, but not with the typical xeno’s. I want to know more about the deacon-type xenos, or the different types, or how they came to be.
I just hope the next film(s) is still more on Prometheus (the engineers) and what the hell is going on and why. Having the xeno as a side note, or making a better connection between Alien and Prometheus, is inevitable.

@asphaltpilot >
that is exactly what i mean, i found the story line of prometheus interesting, but knowing that this was where the xenomorph came from, made it more exciting, i don't want it to be only about the alien, but is could show side story of even the odd confrontation with the engineer, humans and alien (deacon) like the t -rex in jurassic park, how it was fallowing the main characters.
