MemberOvomorphOct-05-2012 3:15 PMInteresting post and I would like to see the logo of Tyrell Corporation in the sequel as an easter egg :)

AdminPraetorianOct-05-2012 3:50 PMA couple non Ridley Scott movies have done the Tyrell easter egg thing already, so no it isn't to be taken seriously.
In "Aliens", when Sigourney was being interviewed about the events on the Nostromo, you see the crew's pictures on a screen in the backgroud. On Dallas's it says he worked for Tyrell *(note the nod to screenwriters on it as well, Seymour-Cobb Genetics Corp. and the U.S.C.S. Shusett )
In "Soldier", we discover the character Todd was present at Tannhauser Gate, which Roy Batty mentioned in his death soliloquy.

I really don't think it's anything more than an easter egg, but hey you never know. They are Ridley's movies, he created the universes so I guess he can do what he wants. I would personally prefer they stay separate.
The biggest problem against the connected universes theory is something in the timelines of the two movies. In "Prometheus" global warming was reversed by 2016 while in "Blade Runner", set in 2019, the planet and everything on it is dying because of pollution.

MemberFacehuggerOct-05-2012 5:39 PMYes I too thought - just slightly possibly the new blade runner will merge into prometheuses world - the outcome could be very cool. But it was only a slim chance of a thought!
"It's almost as if they are making it up as they go along" :D

Alien DNA
MemberOvomorphOct-05-2012 6:21 PMSeymour-Cobb Genetics Corp. and the U.S.C.S. Shusett are on there as well, any Easter eggs on the other crews bios?

Alien DNA
MemberOvomorphOct-05-2012 6:25 PMThey could always just say that global warming was being caused by something else besides pollution, it is a fictional universe of course, and it doesn't necessarily have to mirror our reality

MemberOvomorphOct-05-2012 6:26 PMI got really excited until I realized Cameron dropped the Easter egg in "Aliens" not Ridley obviously. the Peter Weyland letter is VERY intriguing to say the least!

@Alien DNA; Well no, they cannot change that because that is the central theme to the whole movie and the novel it is based off (Do androids dream of Electric Sheep). All life on earth is dying or has been genetically damaged by the huge amounts of pollution, acid rain and radiation poisoning from a world war and heavy industrialisation. There are no animals left. The humans that are not sick and who are wealthy enough have moved offworld in order to preserve the human race.

MemberOvomorphOct-05-2012 7:57 PMWhat if they are merged but separate at the same time?
Bladerunner occurring in the past.
Prometheus the future.
Ridley could be showing the makers of AVP, and proving to Fox, how to properly weave and integrate themes and loose connections into a hybrid series...
And to create his hybrid series he even had to breakdown AVP, and reuse some of the minor elements they took from the earlier Alien scripts in a new way, taking many other elements from the alien universe.
He even had to effectively destroy/replace Weyland and the company as they were known in AVP, most likely knocking AVP out of the timeline, off the throne for a failure to lead the series as the most recent projects. Replacing them with a new Weyland and new Weyland corp to begin again.
By keeping these universes mostly separate and only partially joining elements of each and integrating them with a better balance. Ridley could have even planned to outdo AVP and show Fox how it's done.
Similar to the black liquid-xeno genetics relationship, and how the Engineers further weaponized it leading to their downfall/outbreak because of the mistake in balancing..
And somewhere in between Weyland saved the earth and the atmosphere with his inventions... Later he found out a little about the gods, And he and Holloway found out a little bit more about the gods... before this he stopped the polar ice caps from melting and created the atmospheric processor...
What if Weyland usurped some of his mentor's power after the mentor died, and the colonies in existence that belong to Weyland at this point in time once existed to Tyrell??
The universe could get a lot bigger.

MemberOvomorphOct-05-2012 10:30 PMWould definitely be whoopty.
If anything AVP merging w/ Prometheus would make more sense...

and there's rumour out there that David KNEW ABOUT LV-426!!!
The ORGANOTECH universe is about to get a lot bigger - TV series imminent, no?
2013 sci-fi horror novels 'Custodian' and 'Tandem' available from Amazon, B&N, iTunes etc...

What if the man we believed was Weyland only uses the name Weyland and was only portraying himself as being associated with a past king with the name/image... A namesake/image used to deceive and influence investors in the old company.
Similar, in a way, to how Bishop II tries to trick Ripley in Alien 3

MemberOvomorphMar-03-2013 10:05 PMSince blade runner takes place in 2019 and the death of Tyrell, it would be very easy to make Tyrell corp be an acquisition for Weyland...

AdminPraetorianMar-03-2013 9:05 PMI would simply like to add this here, I should have awhile back but hey no one is perfect. It is a direct quote from Charles de Lauzirika, the man who created the supposed communique written by Peter Weyland (Guy Pearce), which made some pretty obvious allusions to Blade Runner's Eldon Tyrell.
He apparently got the idea from fans online trying to connect the dots between the two acclaimed sci-fi universes, and thought he would have a little fun to see if anyone would catch on. Of course, everyone did:
"That was me having fun and being cutesy. I wrote all that stuff. I actually said this at the press conference they had in London, which is that if it's in the film, it's canon. I would argue that the viral pieces that are included in the Peter Weyland Files are canon just because they originated with Ridley and Damon Lindelof. I would say those, to some degree, are canon. But anything else - especially these which are kind of like little cute, embedded text graphics on the menus - I wouldn't take those too seriously. It's just meant to be an in-universe framework for those viral pieces."
"As a Blade Runner fan, and because there's been so much talk before this even occurred with people on the Internet speculating that maybe Alien and Blade Runner and Prometheus could all exist in the same universe, it was just more of a wink at that. Absolutely nothing to be taken seriously. I mean, I sent it to Ridley and he had no comment. [Laughs] So, it's just icing on top of icing. It's not the cake. It's a fun, little side thing that's very superficial. And, by the way, it in no way officially establishes that it's Blade Runner because, if a lawyer were to comb through that, there's no reference to Tyrell or anything in Blade Runner. It's just a very lightly intentioned joke."
So as you can see, it is not canon, it was just something he thought would be fun to add to the DVD.

MemberOvomorphMar-10-2013 4:15 PMYou guys and your blade runner obsession and connecting it to Alien is lame its like kicking a dead horse over and over again. IMO blade runner is cool but it just doesnt have creatures like in alien. Harrison Ford and Weyland Corp. doesnt sound right its like having star wars on LV-426.
The Anunnaki were on the earth in those days--and also afterward--when the sons of God went to the daughters of humans and had children by them. They were the heroes of old, mighty men of high reno
