Wanderer: Great catch. Keep the posts and discussions coming. I'll check out that section of the scene when I get back home.

There is one item I noticed about the Sacrificial's ship..
The space disc in on the opposite side of the river/falls than the Engineer..
..and takes off for the next port before the the actual drinking of the goo.
Was this a safety concern so no trace of the sacrificial substance could infect other Engineers..?
Could the immediate change from seeding affect any of the crew members,,and that is why they didn't wait around?
I don't have the 'Arrival of the Engineers..on my disc,,

I would think the engineers would want as much room as possible between them and the black goo, because of what they know the goo is capable of. Kinda says why the boys in the pyramid were running from something they completely understood, and were totally paranoid of. I'm beginning to think somebody let the infectious goo, or something else out of the bag on purpose in the pyramid.
These guys have been dealing with this "life" stuff for eons. I can't believe they screwed up. Someone they knew and trusted sabotaged the factory 2000 plus years ago. The place looked like it had been abandoned anyway. Maybe it was God. Remember, God really loved us according to the Bible, and maybe God didn't take too kindly to someone screwing with his beloved children.

At first I thought they were trees but now that you mention, there are other engineers. Hmm

Sorry, I am not following you. You mentioned the bible and the Judeo/Christian God. But we are dealing with transhumans who belong to a billion year old civilization, who created us... it looks to me that the premise of Prometheus is that all our religious ideas including the bible are losely based on ancient real events that happened thousands of years ago when our creators visited us...

Was this a training mission for the Engineers watching the seeding process?
Perhaps a Corporate agenda plan to train future pilots and Sacrificial Engineers for their future rolls,

@Koujilovesdrhell - Correct, but we still refer back to Dr. Shaw's question about the origin of the creators, "Who created them?".
IMO, That is still the biggest question Sir Ridley has asked us all.
October 23, 2012
"..Who created them?.." is a question that can forever be asked...
Do we really want to know the answer? Maybe that is a questrion that Ridley asks himself as he advances through the years..

About the ship leaving before the self-sacrifice. The first thing that popped into my mind (and I still think today) is that that is part of the ritual/ceremony. To solitarily sacrifice your life to create life. I liken it to Seppuku, which was often done alone and ceremoniously.

I think Prometheus is the Mesopotamian / Akkadian creation of man story. The Gods were fighting amongst themselves all the time.

"..Seppuku.."
Yes..I could see the connection to the opening scenes especially when the Sacrificial Engineer's actions seem almost programmed.. He may not know exactly what was going to happen to his body...but the ritual needed to be performed..
As for no other Engineers around,,You can just bet there was someone monitoring the events from afar.. It was too important of a mission...just to leave everything up to one Engineer...
When you kinow that Sacrifice is needed,,who is to say what might happen in the final moments..
Maybe just diving off the clifff..instead of dring the goo..
