MemberOvomorphOct-25-2012 9:39 PMDon't no one here think the same thing that Prometheus was a lot alike AVP in the way Charlie Holloway and Elizabeth Shaw give the crew a quick understand as why they've come out this far?
It was like watching AVP and that film is just dreadful.
In AVP we all see sigh (Lance Henriksen) Charles Bishop Weyland getting stiffed by a Predator. The film was junk rubbish and some fE$king 15 mins of end credits WTF!
Yeah so I'll get back to my RANT lol. The AVP scene where the crew is on the ship and get a why we are here its all a lot like Prometheus and its starting to get boring.
Those AVP and AVP II shouldn't have been made for the geek ALIEN Predator fans. I only happen to like the films but sooner said then done it all turned silly.
It should have all ended with ALIEN 3 or well maybe for the very least ALIEN 4 at least I can live and enjoy that I wasn't least bit interested in seeing another ALIEN film I'm satisfied with how ALIEN 1979 is today a classic along with ALIENS (1986).
Its just my 1 pence.

MemberOvomorphOct-25-2012 9:48 PMI had seen AVP, too, when I saw Prometheus, and I was instantly reminded of it when the crew was briefed. You can't blame Prometheus for how AVP turned out, though, is what I said to myself. AVP was "the stuff of comic books". James Cameron, who directed Aliens, said it would be terrible, destroying both franchises as something like Frankenstein vs. the Werewolf. On this forum, someone even speculated there could someday be a movie with aliens vs. predators vs. terminators, from that franchise, and there is a comic book that did that. These "clashes" of monsters, like Godzilla movies, should be taken lightly and separated from the authentic movies in each franchise's series. They are just made to see the creatures or robots fight. The stories of each deserve to be kept distinct.

MemberOvomorphOct-25-2012 9:54 PMSigourney Weaver wants to do an Alien 5, believe it or not. She wants to see more of Ripley's life on Earth developed. This may be worth filming, and the way aliens can be brought into the film can speak more to how they are connected to a civilization of engineers that may be out there.

MemberOvomorphOct-25-2012 9:57 PMWith what happened in AVP, if that storyline is used, you have people on Earth who have some records of the xeno's dating back to the early 21st century. Yutani, who was presented the laser at the end of AVP II, is undoubtedly part of the Weyland/ Yutani corporation, which has spent centuries trying to get their hands on all the technology of the aliens and the predators.

MemberOvomorphOct-25-2012 10:01 PMLOL AVPVT2 nice one LOL
Yes its getting all too silly and its derailing these films into joke. I never bought AVP 2 as AVP 1 was just a load of bollocks!
The music score on AVP is pants when compared to James Horner for ALIENS or Jerry Goldsmith for ALIENS okay not too bad with Elliot Goldenthal ALIEN 4 composer John Frizzell reminded me of Dante's Peak at times. LOL
Oh, yeah the Godzilla flicks I used to see morning shows of those at the cinema in the early 70's and it was a lot of fun for 15 pence.
This one is good and makes a strong point.

MemberOvomorphOct-25-2012 10:07 PMOh, those two evil companies I would sooner pay to watch a short "AVP 3/4 aliens and predators the fear of acid" and watch for 15mins while they each run around getting diced up by predators or an ALIEN sticking its jaw into the faces and seeing blood splattering everywhere and then cut to 2 mins of end credits. lol

MemberOvomorphOct-25-2012 11:29 PMNevermind the briefing...
The entire movie was like AVP, for the same reason.
AVP was rushed. Simple as that. So was Prometheus.
Riddles should have taken more time. Another solid 30 minutes of run time...
Maybe even an hour, would have made all those flaws non-existant. And would have given us the movie we should have had.
But i still love coming here, and discussion what should have been, and what could be.
There's a stickied megathread on the Prometheus 2 discussion about the future of the series. Please visit, if you'd like to discuss new ideas. What should be featured in the sequels, and what should be done.

MemberOvomorphOct-27-2012 4:27 PMYeah more running time YES! It was only a few mins more than his original release ALIEN 1979 not that re-release the original!
His last few films of past years have been 2 hours + so why not Prometheus.

MemberOvomorphOct-28-2012 4:03 PMIt was better than AVP
At least it didn't contradict the whole reason for Ripley trying to stop them reaching earth
They were on earth in 2004 ffs! Totally going against the mythology
I think Prometheus can go towards resetting the wrongs of AVP and AVPR/Jason X as much as Predators tried to

MemberOvomorphOct-28-2012 10:04 PM@mvmnt: agreed!
Also, just because prometheus deals with "previsitation" doesnt mean that, by default, prometheus and AVP are similar films. In fact, the way prometheus is constructed is completely antithetical to the way AVP (I and II) is constructed. My god, the films are night and day. Trying to map out the panoply of differences, both thematically and in the sense of cinematic construction, is dizzying.

MemberOvomorphOct-29-2012 6:22 AMAnd if it really was in line with the rest of the mythology
It would be in the complete box-set
It wasn't even honest to the Dark Horse comics or novelisations.
At least they had some grit

MemberOvomorphJan-16-2013 10:36 PMAVP will be an integral part of the overall ALIEN/Prometheus SAGA!

MemberOvomorphJan-22-2013 11:50 PMDespite all the AVP hate, I think there were a lot of good ideas in the film. While there are parts of it that make me cringe, the more I see the film, the better it gets for me. I would have like to have seen more ties between Prometheus and AVP honestly.
Not AVP 2, thats another story. That one was terrible except for the portion at the end where the weapon was revealed to be in corporate hands.
