Mala'kakOctober 24, 2012Love where this is going, I'm leaning towards it being a way to honor her mother in a sense. The idea that Weyland may believe she's not his child is interesting.
I think it reinforces the fact that Weyland may have no one he feels he can leave the company to at the very least. His preference for David shows a lot.
It may not be allowed for an android to kill his own creator, but this android talked about it in a roundabout way and then his creator managed to end up dying by his head.
If David hadn't done all the hard work getting Weyland to the Engineer, exploring the temple, finding the life signal and opening all the doors then Weyland could not have died in that way...
Even if David had complete free will over his actions he would still have to pretend to go along with Weyland's orders to ensure that Weyland dies on his foolish mission.
Here it's a little more freudian... David wants to kill and replace his parent.
This is probably against some sort of programming so an android probably isn't allowed to become king either, to rise against and above the humans, or to harm the king directly and dethrone him. David would have to go about it through manipulation. Stealing power from his creators after the death of the king and Vickers.
Leading and conditioning the people viewing his ambiguous statements towards one meaning, when it is actually another he has in mind. Playing up the actual threat level of the Engineers, and spooking the already chaotic board members back on Earth... Putting them in a state where one of them comes to trust the detached David head once Shaw reattaches it. Believing that he should allow David to keep working as a translator and saboteur out in space, but this is the start of the worst. The end of the company's golden age.
Weyland, and now David may feel like so much of a god that he needs to be there watching over his company forever or things will fall into complete chaos.
He feels like he's the best one to be in control and to steer the humans towards the right paths... eventually.
