MemberOvomorphOct-24-2012 2:17 AMOr did she use her mothers maiden name maybe Peter Weyland being not so the nice person was real bastard and maybe Meredith resented him and so changed her Christian name.
It all seems to point that way.
Or she got married and her husband got killed while working on an off-world project for Peter Weyland and she doesn't want to forgive him it was clear she hated him in the film and the above seems to point that way.

MemberOvomorphOct-24-2012 6:21 AMMaby she is using her mothers last name.
Peter weyland and meridiths mother dosent have to have been married at all you know.
or maby her mother died from natural cuases, after all, weyland is pretty old in the movie.. Maby Meridith took her mothers last name after her death to honor her.
Its also possible that Weyland have a couple of "bastard" children around the world, Meridith being one of them. After all, he wouldnt be the first rich and and succesfull man that humps everything with two legs.
I actually vote for that. Since he is saying that "David is the closest thing ive ever come to having a son". I think he is not relly recognizing Meridith as his own.
This could be the dilemma for him.
He HAS TO bring her in to the company and as his own, becuase he is about to die and need her to take over. He might see David as his son, but its not allowed to leave a robot in charge of a company(i hope:S).
But he is on a mission for immortalety, this could save him and allow him to continue to rule his "reign".

MemberOvomorphOct-24-2012 6:51 AMVickers strikes me mof wanting,,,and getting things her own way.
I doubt if she would give up the Weyland name
So my guess is that she is adopted...and Peter let her keep her given name..and she likes it that way.

MemberOvomorphOct-24-2012 7:58 AMLove where this is going, I'm leaning towards it being a way to honor her mother in a sense. The idea that Weyland may believe she's not his child is interesting.
I think it reinforces the fact that Weyland may have no one he feels he can leave the company to at the very least. His preference for David shows a lot.
It may not be allowed for an android to kill his own creator, but this android talked about it in a roundabout way and then his creator managed to end up dying by his head.
If David hadn't done all the hard work getting Weyland to the Engineer, exploring the temple, finding the life signal and opening all the doors then Weyland could not have died in that way...
Even if David had complete free will over his actions he would still have to pretend to go along with Weyland's orders to ensure that Weyland dies on his foolish mission.
Here it's a little more freudian... David wants to kill and replace his parent.
This is probably against some sort of programming so an android probably isn't allowed to become king either, to rise against and above the humans, or to harm the king directly and dethrone him. David would have to go about it through manipulation. Stealing power from his creators after the death of the king and Vickers.
Leading and conditioning the people viewing his ambiguous statements towards one meaning, when it is actually another he has in mind. Playing up the actual threat level of the Engineers, and spooking the already chaotic board members back on Earth... Putting them in a state where one of them comes to trust the detached David head once Shaw reattaches it. Believing that he should allow David to keep working as a translator and saboteur out in space, but this is the start of the worst. The end of the company's golden age.
Weyland, and now David may feel like so much of a god that he needs to be there watching over his company forever or things will fall into complete chaos.
He feels like he's the best one to be in control and to steer the humans towards the right paths... eventually.

The most terrifying fact about the universe is not that it is hostile but that it is indifferent

MemberOvomorphOct-24-2012 10:00 AMUp to the ending of Prometheus,,David has been sort of behind the scenes doing what his mission demands. Now As.. all of the events have unfolded..he finds himself in the 'starring role'..sort of exposed..
Now he must be somewhat careful in manipulating Shaw to accomplish the next face of his mission..
With that in mind I think a returning role of Vickers..in any fashion ... will set up a 3-way stuggle for power..understanding...and self awareness..(especially Shaw)
What is the result? Stay tuned for Part 3!
