For example in the Alien Quadrilogy set, there are voice over commentaries on all 4 alien movies. The one for Aliens was especially interesting if you sellect the extended version. There I learned, for example that Gale Anne Hurd, was the one responsible for the removal of the entire third reel, which contained the sequence about Hadley's Hope, the colony on LV426. I always wondered who butchered that movie in the theatrical release. James Cameron, who was married to her at the time, is pretty forgiving and claims in the commentary that its a good cut and works fine but he also prefaces the extended cut with the statement that this is the ride that he intended to take us on. The conventional thinking at the time was to get the most number of plays per day, and this was before big metroplexes, they had to keep a movie down to 2:10 hours. This explains why this scene as well as the remote machine guns scene were cut out of the movie resulting in a less exciting viewing experience. Frankly I never was thrilled about that movie until I happened upon the extended cut and now its my favorite in the Alien franchise series. That move is up there in my opinion with Prometheus but for different reasons. I love them both!

MemberOvomorphNov-12-2012 7:26 PMThanks for the heads up nostromo001, there are not many movies that I have watched with commentary simply because I do not have time. I will make some time.... I love the inside stories to movie making. Can you imagine how many great scenes have been cut over the years....
