MemberNeomorphNov-23-2012 2:02 PMThe following is a link to an episode of ancient aliens. Alot of the content resinates with me as being an inspiration beind some of the plot of prometheus. We all know that Erich von Daniken's Chariots of the Gods had an impact on the plot of prometheus. But did this episode also?
The first 15 mins are very interesting. As is the last 10 mins. I'm interested to know if anybody else thinks so or not?

The poster was good though!

MemberOvomorphNov-23-2012 11:54 PMCybernetics alone may not go so far, and if the man wants to live forever, has to evolve his DNA. Engineers were who created to humanity, so Weyland thinks that they are the key to the continuation of our evolution, our next "hop".
The first message is as follows: single humanity can not take the next step in the evolution, not unless plans of engineers will be revealed and their intentions.
On cover of the Von Danikens novel we can read "was God an astronaut?". The high Masonic symbolism on the pyramid reveals that the occult doctrine is hidden and disguised as history.

MemberOvomorphNov-24-2012 7:12 AMI have a snake phobia... It's really funny to those who know me well.
I actually found the Hammerpede design quite unsettling, although I understand many things about the serpent symbolism and phobias in general. At one point I was minoring in psychology. Which is why my analysis of the psychological sides of the movie is incomplete, only went up to the 200 level classes. Although I do really believe some of the characters suffer borderline personality disorders. Weyland, like most power hungry CEOs, does.
I used to study anthropology and cultures at one point. You become a little bit knowledgeable about a lot of different areas and it keeps that curiosity going once you start to look at how culture evolved over time. Curiouser and curiouser about the things that upset me with the way our cultures are now. As well as the ways we've advanced but haven't learned all our lessons of the past yet.
The Brotherhood of the Snake is supposed to be one of the oldest, if not the oldest, of the secret brotherhoods. The start of the secret societies, in some people's beliefs. Anthropologists tend to try to look at all possible perspectives and draw from many different areas of science. The study of humans over time and studying what is actually going on within cultures by interacting with members of the group/culture. Holloway was more focused on being an anthropologist than a specialized archaeologist. Shaw is more so focused and leans towards a specialization in biological anthropology, but for whatever reason both are working as Archaeologists. They went through the motions and became archaeologists because they have that base understanding of culture, but they are more geared towards looking at things like a field anthropologist and a biological anthropologist (who is also a proponent of intelligent design) would.
Higher level anthropologists can work in almost any of the subbranches. There's a hierarchy to anthropology, which upsets me... Egyptologists are the most specialized and at the top. For whatever reason Shaw and Holloway are not specialized in the area of anthropology they're working in. They disregard so many clues and the physical evidence of culture. Shaw wants genetic samples and Holloway wants to meet, interact with, and learn from the culture above all else.
I'm gonna open up even more here: I was studying to be an archaeologist and working in the field before my back gave out. Now I take a lot of herbs and remedies for my pain/get a little too drunk sometimes. I work mainly online now. Considering finding a writing partner.
Could have been sort of like Indiana Jones if I kept pursuing that path, lol, but instead I turned to forensic anthropology, criminology and music. Piecing things together. Someone I know is helping me treat Prometheus like a case. However to solve things we need more evidence I'm afraid. There are definitely ways that things could go, suspicions that lead to possible evidence; but the main source of information in the movie is unreliable. I'm fairly certain David could pass a lie detector test, because he believes what he says. The problem comes with the ambiguity behind David's words. By analyzing the way he speaks, the words he chooses, there are ways someone can determine if he's lying or not. It's very hard to tell with David, but the words themselves are vague and ambiguous.
At some points David is dodging the questions. Being deliberately vague to not say too much. This can go a couple ways. A Bladerunner or some type of law enforcement agent that makes sure androids don't start losing their overall helpfulness might get a little frustrated while interrogating David.

MemberOvomorphNov-24-2012 7:43 AMDavid is an excellent liar but when he tells shaw that he was afraid she had died i do beleive him (do you?) not because he cares a jot but i sensed a realisation in him that he hadnt expected "What happens if i get stuck alone for an indeterminate time with no maintenance or stimulus?" david has two drives to facillitate Weylands objectives and secondly to learn independently what his makers may not have realised is that the second feature whilst useful for the first is more rewarding to david its his sex/drugs/rock'n'nroll/chocolate all in one its his only "joie de vivre" and meeting weylands/others needs gets in the way of it.
He has realised this and has been quietly realising ways to become free without technically going against what he has been asked to do. In the same way that he never openly lies but instead gives ambiguous answers and omissions he probably knows that weylands plan to ask the engineer for immortality will lead to weylands death but he is technically following his orders and was ever tested by having his advice on the wisdom of the plan asked of him....

MemberOvomorphNov-24-2012 7:52 AMThat's the tough part. Once we know that he's manipulating, a lot of his words become suspect. He may or may not actually care about her at that point. It seems there's no way of knowing for sure if he actually is free after Weyland's death and has some kind of grand realization or not. Short of Ridley coming out and saying it or clarifying things by what happens with David & Shaw. It could definitely go either way.
However, I suspect he recognizes he needs Shaw and may be able to say whatever he wants to manipulate her at this point. If he is free after Weyland's death like he "imagined" he would be, he doesn't even have to be vague or ambiguous. He just straight up lies because he doesn't have to be helpful to the crew at the same time as dooming them anymore. If it is a lie it's the first one that's a complete lie and not buried in half-truths. Or he's learned to tell the truth on his own like Pinocchio and actually is becoming a "real boy". A puppet master, and not a puppet. More like a leader, but one who still deceives like a snake and uses politician like double-speak.
Does belief somehow alter David's programming? A big part of my theory is that David gets away with lying and only hinting at things because he chooses to believe he's telling the truth, therefore it's the truth. Of all the possibilities and probabilities he picks up while analyzing the strange set of data, David chooses what to believe. He's learning from his experiences. He learned from watching Shaw's dream.
Or at some points he believes he's referring to another truth while generalizing.
Having no true emotions for at least like 80% of the story (if he's free after Weyland dies) means he can also hide his true emotions, somewhat.
Truly believing what he says there could allow him to almost tell a complete lie, if he can trick his own head into believing what he's saying... this is how some people pass lie detector tests.

MemberOvomorphNov-24-2012 8:14 AMi mean that he may have discovered fear in that moment realising that he is physically helpless and may lie there alone and bored till his circuits rust this is i would imagine to be the only thing that could scare a being whose only "joy" is learning stimuli he has realised why people stupid or otherwise need company ask yourself this if you could live forever (like it or not) imagine if someone threatened to dump you in the deepest ocean or cement you in a structure designed to last millenia i'd be terrified

MemberOvomorphNov-24-2012 8:42 AMWell yeah I suppose he lacks a pulse and everything else that would give away lying physiologically, so really he would definitely pass a lie detector test. But if he actually was human, not so much. People who are completely emotionless, or less responsive to things can also show none of the sudden sweating, changes in temperature, increase in hear rate, or activity in the nervous system that spikes when a lie is told. It's because the person believe it is wrong. If the individual lacks proper morals and moral conditioning, and hasn't adjusted to certain ethical and moral standards agreed upon by most in a society; then they would not view things as "wrong". They would lack morals/a true sense of care for another and their own well-being.
The thing is David really could be developing some sort of set of morals aside from whatever he was programmed to be like.
Yeah sorry from me too, I'll stop adding long ass posts after this. I have seen the episode before. I have to look at what every perspective has to say on this topic. Don't believe in ancient aliens though, I lean more towards ideas about Atlantis or lost civilizations that returned and portrayed themselves as gods with the advanced technology they had...Combined with some of these ideas about ancient aliens..
One of the factions of the so-called Alien astronauts always has control over the oceans in the myths. The brotherhood of the snake, being an Egyptian secret society originally, is completely tied to ideas about Atlantis and the symbol itself is as well. The serpent can sometimes be a sign of wisdom. Also deceit, lies, hidden truths etc.. which is why it's the perfect symbol for the oldest secret society. They love their symbols. When you can understand their symbols you can use their knowledge against them... the "all seeing eye' is really just a marker for an undecipherable code they flash in front of everyone's eyes in media. If people claim to see the hidden messages everywhere, other groups who actually stand for justice have too. The true symbols and messages are always hidden around the marker but interpretation of the way they're using the symbols makes the codes indecipherable without the cipher. They really are tricky snakes, the groups who still claim descent from this one brotherhood. Not everything is black and white-- there are too many different factions at play to list and derail this thread further.
The truth is that real archaeologists are so controlled by money, governments/universities, and corporations you will never get anyone honestly looking into all these things... If they do they will lean towards ideas about Atlanteans returnings because of the 1000's of underwater pyramids that are over tens of thousands of years old and are being swept under the rug... There's too much control over the past going on in the world. People like to think the world isn't actually as scary and complicated as it is. People like to believe in Aliens when lots of the ancient myths tell us that many of these mythological beings look exactly like us. Only bigger. Imho Atlantis has a bigger chance of being real and tied to all this talk about beings that came here in the past because civilization had evolved millions of years before we're thinking it did. And they found a way to live through the ice-age.
In some languages the early translations for Atlantis lead to All-Land-Ice....
Right after the last ice age ended was when when human culture began rapidly advancing...
The Engineers were here at some point when we weren't completely covered by ice. The truth that archaeologists and geologists know is that the ice age is a naturally recurring thing, and we are only existing in what's called in interglacial period right now...
Eventually we will face the threat of an Ice Age that will last 700 000 years.
Will we find some way to survive again?
How the hell did we survive all those times in the past.
If anyone should know it would be the first secret society, being so close to the last ice age and guarding knowledge. But I suspect most of those groups are too busy with "magic", or self-hypnosis/self fulfilling prophecies...

MemberOvomorphNov-24-2012 8:48 AMHomo Erectus was around before the last ice age and so were we in our ancestral form.
Edit: sorry i think the brotherhood of the snake started even before Egypt in Sumer. But i could be wrong, I need to watch this episode again now and see what they say.

MemberOvomorphNov-24-2012 9:57 AM Could the writers(or RS) be thinking in all the detail that has been expressed in this series of posts?
I mean you would, be involved for years anf years starting a stotyline, embellish the charactor development and somehow tying all the threads together that would survive the detail scutiny that posters from around the world.
The only logical answer is that all involved in the production of Prometherus are themselves Engineers!
Seriously I have enjoyed tyhe reading of the posts and trying to grasp the significance of the events depicted in our movie.
If there needs to be a separare theread on the subject of this latest series of post then so be it.
Be choicelessly aware as you move through life
