I would consider him to be right up there with the best when it comes to influencing generations of interest in Sci Fi. A sad loss to many fans IMO.

Oh no! He and Sylvia Anderson were indeed influential in the world of Sci Fi and that influence is visible in Prometheus too! Their vision, art direction and filmmaking innovation enriched many lives including my own. Thunderbirds, UFO, I grew up with those things and was lucky to do so. RIP Gerry, and Thank You.

Wholeheartedly agree Batch & Major Noob! Captain Scarlet, UFO & Space 1999 were some of my favourites. Lets hope the BBC or ITV will show him the respect he deserves. Thank you Gerry, my childhood & imagination were enriched by your wonderful creations.

I grew up in England during the 60's and got to watch Thunderbirds and Captain Scarlet on a regular basis.I had some of the toys too.
We moved to Africa when I was about 4. We just about went without T.V for 3 years. The T.V station would broadcast every Friday for about three hours(News,Mod Squad,Mannix and maybe Star Trek or The Flip Wilson Show) Then we moved to Canada.
Captain Scarlet and Thunderbirds was virtually non-existent on Canadian T.V. Then in the mid 1970's they started advertising a new T.V show called Space 1999 that was created by Gerry Anderson. I knew who that was and remembered all his other creations and characters that I watched back in England.
That says a lot to me in regards to the early influence he had on me to appreciate Science Fiction.
 Thanks Gerry

Thanks Batchpool. Loved the spaceships. Nice posting of the ships from "Doppelganger" by NCC. He was awesome. I loved Thunderbirds (Two and five were my favorites), Captain Scarlett and Space: 1999. Space:1999 freaked me out, never missed an episode! Brian Blessed was great in the special guest appearances he made. I loved the Eagles, I had the Matchbox metal model in 1976!!
My Dad got me into them with Stingray. that is my first memory of Gerry Anderson.
Somebody said he influenced Prometheus. You bet! Check out how the hanger drops down ...just like Thunderbird Two!!!
Today I have been dedicated to post on as many topics as possible until I pass out from drinking too many beers.

Stingray and Fireball XL5 were just hilarious. I loved those great puppets they used, all of them characachers of hokey american actors. I still would laugh straight through those shows. I'll have to watch some to pay homage to a genious of the television arts!
