MemberOvomorphJan-16-2013 10:00 PMLately I have noticed people posting either just one word or a wild title with one word in it. This serves no purpose and Svanya was forced to close the line of inquiry as soon as she was made aware of what happed in adition to restating the rules. Another thing that has been happening is a person will write a long and unfocused post not really making a concise point. This takes time to read and try to decipher and it is only followed by another long and rambling post also making little sense. I do not wish to insult the posters responsible for this as I enjoy the privilege of posting and responding to posts that make valid sense and I believe that all of us are capable of posting well thought out opinions and hypotheses that by combining our best ideas results in a large on line think tank. I, for example have learned things here that I had not realised and connections that I would never have made on my own, so I am grateful for the contributions of all of those here who have helped me better understand Prometheus. Yes I had a period of crisis a couple of weeks ago but when it was over I posted an explanation so as not to cause confusion on the site. Also the staff were very kind and supportive to me at that time. We are like a large virtual extended family of folks who all share a love for an amazing movie produced by a gifted director who has come back to the genre of Sci fi after a couple of decades away. We all wait in anticipation for the release of the proposed sequel Paradise and Blade runner 2. In the mean time there are still plenty of things to think about, and questions to share on this site. I look forward to engaging others here in conversations about any related subjects as long as they are well thought out and logical posts qualified by these three letters: imo. To all posters here:
cheers,

MemberOvomorphJan-16-2013 10:23 PMNot at all Svanya, this is our site and as such it is an open forum that provides us all with the opportunity to express our theories about Prometheus and to learn from others who may have access to information or maybe a different view that can enlighten us that we would have never conceived of by ourselves.

Co-AdminMemberOvomorphJan-16-2013 10:24 PMThank you very much for your kind words Nostromo001. We staff are volunteers, and proudly help Chris when we can in our day to day lives. It's great that as a member you decided it would be best to speak up, and I respect that a lot. Yes lately some threads have tested the rules of our forum and I advise everyone to please review. I am currently pushing for a progressive way for older threads to thrive once again, and help keep the integrity of the new threads to come. Cheers

AdminEngineerJan-17-2013 1:18 AMVery well said Nostromo, i agree with you 100%, and thank you for the kind words. The one-word posts are very annoying and leave little room for someone to contribute to. It's the quickest way for a thread to die on a forum. This isn't Twitter, so you are allowed to post lengthy ideas in an engaging atmosphere. So to everyone reading, be sure to add some body to your topics and open up the dialogue so that the discussion can flourish and continue on!
Great post, thank you.

MemberOvomorphJan-17-2013 6:30 AM Sometimes I am in the mood for snappy guick answer posts. At other times a good cup of coffee while reading a multi paragraph thread that brings together different aspects of our film is just fine .
The longer posts take the time to explain a bit of the reasoning and give a perspective i would not have thought of on my own.
In any case if the poster is respectful of the readers and site members then I can read any and all .
Some aspects of our movie can't be explained in a 3 sentence post.
My only concern about comments on the quality of the posts and other matters relating to the running of the site..is that it takes time away from readers and posters commenting about our movie.
If that energy could be used in movie matters then all site members would benefit
The more time spent on figuring out why the Engineers have not fully showed themselves the better for all of us..imo.

MemberOvomorphFeb-26-2013 12:05 PMStoker - how does this in anyway relate to the movie Prometheus? And to make matters worse, you chose to place your irrelevant post in this one about improving the quality of the posts at this site in general???!!! What are you thinking! To Indy - see what I am referring to? In this case the post was not too short but just completely unrelated to Prometheus! My point is that posts should be 1) sensible, 2) hopefully grammatically somewhat correct - of course no one is perfect, 3) related to the subject and 4) longer than one sentence but shorter than a book! If all of us stay within the general range of these parameters, then all posts will be fun to read and interesting as well.

MemberOvomorphFeb-26-2013 3:43 PM@nostromo001: The comment before yours is a spam comment, quite obviously...imo. There used to be way more of those around here than these days. They kept flooding in every minute, remember folks?
I generally agree with the intention of your thread, and it's always good to remind people of what this community is and should be all about, but also that there's always plenty of room for improvements in many different ways.
The staff here are doing a great job in maintaining a certain quality that is still hard to find on other forums. However, there will always be exceptions as you cannot completely 'fence out' the odd and weird, more importantly, the inexperienced posters.
Unfortunately, not everyone is as gifted in speech, common sense and grammar as many around here are. A lot of people here do not speak English as their mother tongue, but are still trying to communicate something, and to contribute to numerous, indeed very interesting discussions. This isn't always successful but any attempt should still be respected and initially be taken seriously.
Please allow me some constructive criticism here, it always helps to break up a big body of text into smaller paragraphs. It reads indeed much easier and encourages to even start reading... nudge nudge. ;-)

AdminPraetorianMar-03-2013 9:39 PMIndeed, it is spam. I have deleted it. Next time you see some please PM a staffmember so we can ban/delete. LOL!
@Hal, we have teams of trained monkies and Wizards that do nothing but watch for spam, some still get through but its really rare.
