MemberOvomorphJan-26-2013 10:11 PMI had read earlier on this site, that the xeno was designed by the engineers as a type of DNA harvestor. The more i think of it , the more the idea makes sense.
Just bear with me on this one. A 'being' gets infected with the black goo, from that it gets mutated into a face hugger (type or variation of one) . it find s a host and infects or impregnates another being, then becoming a xeno (type or ariation of one) . the xeno can infect and host or a dead victim ( using the body as material for an egg) thus the whole process starts again. Mean while as it goes through each 'phrase , it collects DNA. Then the engineers just harvest the eggs.

MemberChestbursterJan-26-2013 11:09 PMI don't think this a very bad theory, but it just seems like a bit more complicated view of the engineers dropping xenos on earth to destroy everybody. iBut i like it because it adds more of another reason. they arent just making humans then destroying them and starting from scratch. this has more volume which is much cooler

MemberOvomorphJan-27-2013 1:46 AMNot a bad theory but I like the thought of the Xeno being a type of cleaning crew that its harvesting and absorbing everything. Then later the Engineers would come by after the xenos had gone. They come back after a long time just to start the process al over again. Maybe instead they keep trying to make a creature that will be more subserviant to them and thats why they will keep "upgrading". Until they get it right or to where they're satisfied completely.
The Anunnaki were on the earth in those days--and also afterward--when the sons of God went to the daughters of humans and had children by them. They were the heroes of old, mighty men of high reno

MemberOvomorphJan-27-2013 5:12 AMI like this idea but I think the black goo is designed to do this and the end result that we see is a side effect. If all goes well after the sacrifice, evolution should bring about a very diverse planet. Once evolution on that planet reaches it's peak they drop the black goo on it wich does it's job of breaking everything down and recombining it into a single lifeform again.
I think the mural is a warning. The engineer equivilant to warning lebels that you find on a blowdryer that tells you not to shower with it. The goo, the facehugger, and the xeno are all there. To avoid risk of super-evolved mutant alien use as directed. It explains the aggressive sexual behavior and why it rapes other species to procreate.
The black goo forcefully breaks down and recombines different strands of DNA so in order to do this it has to work on a smaller level. The face-hugger or trilobyte are multicellular organisms and cannot combine with other species the same way so it has evolved to combine genetic material sexually. It seems that the Engineers did install a sort of failsafe as the xeno seems to have a short lifespan and don't seem to be able to reproduce so if an outbreak did occur it wouldn't last long. Go back and watch Alien and think of the xeno as frustratingly trying to mate with the crew to no avail. It's actions make a lot more sense.

MemberOvomorphJan-27-2013 8:11 AMirt the OP (get me with the forum lingo lol) there are organisms namely bacteria that swap dna like playing cards but only when they have the energy "transformation competency" and or it is really to their advantage i.e. antibiotic resistance, virulence, etc.
however generally all organisms we know of try to maintain their original form as much as possible we dont have immortality so we want our offspring the extension of ourselves to be as much like us as possible this is seen throughout all nature on earth
So if i could acquire any aspect of any animal like say i'm bored waiting on a bus and a nearby birds wings suddenly seem like a good idea would i take that feature on at great costs in terms of energy and genetic stability or do i just suck it up and wait for the bus!
the point is there are big flaws evolutionarily speaking about the parasite creatures presented in these movies they are destined (or designed!) to exhaust themselves and their local ecosystem and die off so are they a genetic experiment gone wrong or gone right? in short i dont see a purpose in a self modifying parasite/chimera it would always change and always be unpredictable so either the engineers or their makers screwed up or they are bored sadists who just wanna see what happens......

And yet there is still a tag on the cord with a picture of the blowdryer, a bathtub, and little lightnign bolts representing electricity. Inteligent life can be quite stupid.

the theory of the alien sexaulity .the alien orginated from kane , maybe kane had 'feelings' for lambert. the attack on lambert by the alien was 'emotional residue' from kane.

AdminPraetorianJan-27-2013 1:55 PMThat is actually a VERY interesting theory. Well thought out and original. Well done! I will sticky/feature this post a few days so other members will have the chance to read it before it gets buried.

MemberOvomorphJan-27-2013 7:56 PMAn interesting theory and may well prove correct. However, doesn't it seem that there are easier and more humane ways to harvest DNA? Even alien abduction and the infamous anal probe sounds like a walk in the park by comparison to total planetary devastation. I think the harvesting of DNA may be a collateral effect of the infestation. In my opinion, the primary point is to wipe out the targeted lifeforms, and I think to make them suffer greatly in the process.

MemberOvomorphJan-28-2013 2:36 AMI have abit of a development of the theory.
Each time the xeno goes through its cycle. it gains the best attributes of its victim or host. each cycle improves its palette. it gains DNA coded information for the likes of say adaptation to environment .for argument sake , lets say it finds a host that adapts well to change. It selects that information (DNA) and incorporated it into its own DNA.That information is then pass on to the next generation of xenos.
It can gain all sorts of attributes, predatory stealth instinct, healing aspects etc etc.
It has no eyes....who need eyes for what its seen

MemberOvomorphJan-28-2013 3:58 PMif it is a bioweapon then the ability to evolve so speedily whilst being advantageous to the xeno would be a big disadvantage to the weapons-creator a bit like the dinosaurs in jurassic park circumventing the lysine deficiency gene, they have lost control if they ever had it to start with.....

MemberOvomorphFeb-01-2013 3:04 PMLike the theory but does not sit well with the plot device of Prometheus in that all life existing on Earth comes from the DNA of the Engineers so there would be no need to harvest something you already have and could easily clone different beings from it with their Technology....Hence "Engineers".

MemberXenomorphFeb-01-2013 4:54 PMI like the idea of the xenomorph as a harvester . What I am more interested in knowing is how they extract the DNA and use it to their advantage. The engineers that is !!!

pulserifle187
MemberOvomorphFeb-02-2013 3:35 AM@jspaights
I read a theory of that. The engineers seed a planet with their DNA , the DNA creates life forms. Over time the DNA through evolution develops and advances , new strands are created . When these new strands are created , they release the harvestor and the new DNA is gathered.
@oduodu
My theory is that within the xenos/facehuggers there is a 'gland' ,so to speak where the DNA accumulates. im not sure what methods the engineers would use to exact the DNA from the eggs/xeno.
Maybe the the new DNA strands are examined , enhanced, combined with other collected DNA and then prehaps re-released.

I have always thought that the sharp thing at the end of xenos tail is stinger with a little bag of goo just behind it . Almost like a bee stinger with a little bit of poison in the bag behind it .
I like your idea of a bag where the DNA collects. Let's say the stinger has a little bage at the end where this DNA collects. When a xenomorph stings a human he slowly begins to egg morph . The DNA of the human is introduced into the facehugger being formed. After hugging the xenomorph that is born from chestbursting further gathers DNA from its host . The stinger of the resulting xenomorph now has a bag of egg morphing DNA that contains DNA from previous facehugging and chestbursting hosts .
The engineers could then extract that and analyse that.

i had the same sort of idea , my idea was the infection come through the mouth, the reason for the second set of teeth. but i think the tail idea is more feasible. perhaps that what the xeno was trying to do to lambert in alien, it could of been looking for a different result?

MemberXenomorphFeb-02-2013 8:10 AMPulserifle187
A different result ? I dunno .
But then there was a human skull in that xenomorph with maybe some human instincts as there might have been a human brain in there as well.
Are you questioning the xenomorph as a DNA harvester ? I myself like the idea but I am not completely sold on it . I believe the xenomorph is a genetically engineered creature that is combination of many other creatures. Maybe a dolphin head with a lizard like body .an a scorpion tale. I don't think it was the engineers who created them. Or maybe it was .
The engineers decided to use them as weapons. They saw the xenomorph changing as they were different after using different species as hosts. After millions of years and tens of thousands of species (used as hosts) an ultimate xenomorph began to emerge .their genetic carries all the traits and knowledge of those they used as hosts.
They then take that genetic material form the xenomorph and learn exponentially from the memories and DNA traits of other species. Thereby improving there own.
Maybe the point of engineers seeding other worlds to create humanoids species is specifically create a world where xenos can come and harvest so that they can then restart the whole process and thereby better their genome. . So maybe our use fullness in this regard was finished since our technology progress was preventing us from going the genetic route they wanted us to go .
Or something like that.
Two thousand years ago there experiment to make a liquid version of the xenomorph went awry . They did this because 2200 years ago a juggernaut crashed on lv 426 because of an engineer getting facehugged. And crashing. And they wanted to stop using eggs for cargo.
But their insufficient data made them vulnarable anf they got infected.

MemberOvomorphFeb-02-2013 9:46 PMThe notion that the xeno has a stinger or some other device to infect its victims seems quite plausible. In the cocooning scene in the directors cut of alien, brett is already transforming into an egg and dallas is starting to transform. Dallas refuses to tell ripley what the xeno did to him (which conjures up all sorts of horrible senarios) but the xeno must have done something to cause these mutations. It has been suggested by some that the xeno actually raped lambert, and if this is the case, then does the xeno have sex organs, and if so, is the black goo really just xeno sperm? I don't know the answer to that one, but seems like a possibility.

pulserifle187
MemberOvomorphFeb-02-2013 10:21 PM@oduodu
what i meant by a different result is, the xenos first victims were both males (brett and dallas) ,later the xeno comes across lambert. The fact that lambert is female, which may generate a different result eg queen (im not sold on the idea of a queen , but i havent ruled it out).
Im not sure if there is xeno sperm , but im totally sure the xeno infects its victims ,wether they are dead or alive. The result of the infection is an egg.

I now get you !! Interesting idea .females become queens after being injected. .that makes the egg morphing that much more dangerous.
