I doubt that this is canon for 3 reasons:
1) Probably Prometheus is the beginning of a new trilogy.
2) Obviously Ridley Scott only based his work on Alien.
3) It's just a game. In fact in other fictional universes, such as Star Wars, are not considered as canon the comics and video games, are in fact part of the expanded universe.

Gearbox went and had a meeting with Scott about the game before he did Prometheus but they didn't say what about plus the story is classed a cannon gearbox and fox have said its part of the story

this was an interesting one for me. The part where, they have the short "god" talk when the find the Space Jockey to me seems as though the developers didn't enjoy the "space jockey being gods" idea. About the ship battle hologram, this could indicate that the derelict was in battle just before it crashed, but then again its an Easter egg so that may not be true.

I don't know, it's hard for me to accept the Derelict having a shoot out ( Pchoo! Pchoo! Really?) of any kind, or for that matter having visible thrusters, particularly ones that seem to have nothing to do with its actual flight path ( ditto the goofy saucer with a thruster coming right out its bottom ). Who designed this? Were they going for 80's retro? Whatever they spoke to RS about, I doubt it was this.

my guess is that they tried to tell us something serious that was presented in a funny way, that may not be how the fight looked but our guess is that there was a fight though more brutal than what looks like an arcade game :P then again that's a maybe

I'm with you on this one @Major Noob and @Shambhala.
From the moment I read "Hicks is still alive", for me the discussion whether this is canon or not, is out of the question. Ok I haven't played it, and since I'm not into games it's unlikely that I ever will.
I assume it's sort of fun to play in that all familiar environment, but it seems that this is where it ends. A shame though, I was really hoping they'd use it to give the fan base proper easter eggs and perhaps an interesting extension/addition to the story.
But am I surprised when FOX is involved? Hell no!
[EDIT]: Are you guys sure there were talks with RS or is that just a rumor? I personally can't see why, since all this stuff relates to "Aliens" and obviously not to "ALIEN" or "Prometheus" in any way. Were there talks with JC?
Have to admit I was wrong about Hicks. As often, I've confused Hicks with Hudson. My bad. So yes, he could be alive but that still doesn't change my mind about the game being canon or not.

Gearbox said that it was cannon lol don't know if they spoke to JC hicks said in the game he was the last high ranked marine and ejected him but wen asked who was it that was in the pod he said that a different story that poor writing in my book and how the suloko ended up bk at lv426

i havent gotten very far in the game yet. Doesnt seem half as bad (so far...) as many of the reviews out there. graphics are definitely rendered in a rough fashion...lots of aliasing etc.
Sounds are great! The game doesnt seem horrible, just forgettable. ACM is certainly NOT the definitive aliens game it was planned to be.
As far as gearbox meeting with ridley scott...Official gearbox and sega news releases have stated that the crew at gearbox did, in fact, meet with RS while ridley was working on prometheus. Gearbox did NOT meet with james cameron. Both Gearbox and Fox have stated that A:CM is "canonical". Fox may step back from that declaration now that the game has been chewed to pieces by the fans. I imagine that fox is pretty unhappy with how all of this went down. A:CM was supposed to be a huge deal. FOX gave gearbox unprecedented access to the archives/universe...gearbox (and timegate and sega) all just dropped the ball (fox didnt have much to do w the process other than just saying....here... you can have access...make a definitive, canonical Aliens game).
I dunno what to make of the easter egg featured in this thread....aside from looking like crap, it does feature a juggernaut and ship that is similar to the ship seen at the beginning of prometheus. Could lend credence to the "warring factions of engineers" perspective. Who knows? could be a piece of meaningless garbage by a team of game developers who have dropped the ball. why would they meet w ridley during the production of prometheus, while making a "canonical" aliens game themselves, if not to incorporate some details into their own game?

Omg guys!!! srsly posting such huge spoilers just 3 days after release?? NAUGHTY! :P
@Shambhala; That is very cool, too bad they got the ship's flying direction wrong. Oh well. :/
