MemberOvomorphJul-22-2013 8:24 PMGod, i have read so many attacks launched at this guy. He is like the Wal Mart of writers; you know we all love to shop there, but every asshole and his mother hopped on the hatred bandwagon faster than you can say 'smoke monster.'
The fact is, had we been given Spaihts original draft verbatim, we woild have ended up being spoonfed just another uninspired, derivative Alien movie with nothing left to debate or muse about.
The only reason we are all here; debating plot-points, speculating about the sequel and more still about 'what it all means', is because of Lindelof's inherent desire not to 'lead the audience' or give too much away.
I, for one would like to applaud you, Sir. I have enjoyed slowly unwrapping more and more of this gift with each viewing (and with each subsequent visit to this site)
I truly appreciate being regarded as, and i quote, "intelligent enough to put the pieces together for myself". This film is truly a mysterious masterpiece, and we owe that to none other than Damon Lindelof.
Thank you Sir, it has been an amazing year (one in which i have seen Prometheus once a week) and i look forward to breaking 100 views!!
So, in conclusion; let's hate those who deserve it, like the entire crew of Alien Ressur...gag...can't even finish typing it, and give your favourite scapegoat a break.
After all, he probably buys his socks at Wal Mart, just like you do.

MemberOvomorphJul-22-2013 10:13 PMAgreed. The movie rocks. The movie has mystery and questions and layers but most of all...it leads us away from the well worn path to a new story wiht so MANY possibilities.
Today I have been dedicated to post on as many topics as possible until I pass out from drinking too many beers.

MemberOvomorphJul-23-2013 12:28 AMFinally someone with a decent perspective and how Spaihts story sucked a big one. Damon Lindelof did a good job I dont care what anybody says. If you hated Prometheus thats fine but leave the writer alone. Most people just wanted another stupid Alien sequel all over again and Ridley said "Nope" not gonna happen NERDS.
The Anunnaki were on the earth in those days--and also afterward--when the sons of God went to the daughters of humans and had children by them. They were the heroes of old, mighty men of high reno

MemberOvomorphJul-23-2013 12:43 AMI am one of the few fans of LOST and I like the mystery. None of us would be here without this key factor...many possibilities, no doubt.

I think damon did a good job too. I mean the david/lawerance araba thing was awesome. Lots of new symbolism blended into the mix too.

MemberDeaconJul-23-2013 8:46 AMLindeloff did change and evolve some aspects of Spaights draft and i think many elements was vastly improved and he also took out the Xeno's and Face Hugers which i guess can be applauded.
Saying that Lindeloff has a history of coming up with a great idea, he then runs with it and then out of no where drops the idea with us scratching our heads as to little or no reason or explanation for what it was, and to then latter add to the story and ignore links with the previous plot point and even go as far as to expand a story that contradicts what he showed early on.
I am all up for Ambiguity but sometimes these can lead to plot holes......
Spaights draft did not seem to contradict itself and puzzle pieces fitted together.. a Prime example is the Sacrificial Bowl and its ingredients and what it does.
Lindeloff changed the nano bugs to a genetic modifying substance which kind of does same as Spaights drafts bugs...
But then latter the stuff in Lindeloffs draft does various things that to not clearly ad up and even contradict the effects seen at the start of the movie..... this is a debate covered here many times.
But please dont take this as Lindeloff bashing, as the main reasons the movie never made as much sense or seemed odd, is not down to Lindeloff at all...
There was changes to his final draft not made by him, and then even when the movie was shot, the process between what was shot and used in the theatrical release did not do Lindeloffs draft full justice...
I advise anyone against or who blames Lindeloff for any disappointments to go and read his final draft or previous ones for Prometheus and then look at Spaights and then the final cut of the movie...
And Lindeloffs draft was the better of the bunch and if the movie reflected his draft more then it would had been better.
DONT BLAME Lindeloff...
Its those who edit and cut the movie that are to blame for any disappointments....

MemberDeaconJul-23-2013 8:52 AMOh also we have to say that Spaights deserves equal credit as it was a lot of his ideas that allowed Lindeloff to go and evolve.
The back bones of Spaights draft was good, and allowed for the back story to Prometheus....
Spaights draft was placed on LV 426 which would left some plot holes, and it was pretty much similar to Alien in that they found another place on LV 426 that contained similar Eggs to what the Derelict had.
Spaights draft had to many Xeno influences when we really want to find out more about who these Space Jockeys that are revealed to be Ancient Engineers of many races including us.
Also changing the location to Lv 223 was another work of masterpiece by Lindeloff.
Would like to had seen a few of the removed parts of Spaights draft had been used in Prometheus and mixed with Lindeloffs ideas...

totally agree!, but the rest does not like this idea, I think Lindelof took the alien saga to another level, a new perspective, new ideas, new story, when I saw 'Prometheus for the first time, I felt some disappointment (because expected to see something more attached to alien), but also I must admit, I felt awed by what he saw, (the story I was telling, was new, it was something I had never seen or imagined, (for prometheus is a masterpiece, if the rest does not see well, that's their problem!)

MemberDeaconJul-23-2013 10:49 AMWe have to remember that Spaights introduced us to the Engineers, its just his draft seemed to concentrate on both Xeno lifeforms and Engineers when really it would been nice to had known more about the Engineers and Lindeloffs draft toned down the Xeno links by a considerable amount but we still never learn't enough about the Engineers.
But thats what Paradise is for, i just hope that the pressure to connect the Xeno does not mean we see too much of it in Paradise.
Here is Spaights Draft and Lindeloffs...

MemberOvomorphJul-23-2013 11:08 AMOh yes oh yes Thank You Damon Lindelof you're at the root of the first Sci Fi movie to excite me in a VERY long time. I think you did a stellar job reinterpreting Spaihts' ( pretty darn good ) script, balancing fun and mystery and classicism and serving it up on a vibrant, muscular platter. I thought I knew this movie inside out and then I went and saw it and learned I did not. Brilliant!
